Abstract

Household waste is the largest producer of waste from total waste in Indonesia. Waste production in Tasikmalaya City is 156 tons of waste/day and 75% of it is household waste. Awareness of household waste management < 1%, which affects the landfill which is predicted to only leave space for 4-5 more years. In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, there is an increase in household waste. The aim of this study was to determine the factors related to the behavior of the people of Tasikmalaya City in managing household waste during the Covid-19 pandemic. This type of research is quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was all residents of the City of Tasikmalaya aged > 15 years. The research sample is the residents of the City of Tasikmalaya who are > 15 years old and are willing to fill out an online questionnaire. The sampling technique was accidental sampling, with a minimum number of samples (n). The dependent variable is household waste, the independent variables are age, gender, education level, family income, daily expenses for food, activity base from home, online shopping habits, and the availability of trash bins. The results showed 56.9% of the people of Tasikmalaya City stated that the volume of their household waste during the pandemic was the same as before the Covid-19 pandemic. The results also found a significant relationship between online shopping/buying food habits and the volume of household waste during the pandemic (p=0.018; OR 1.830; 95% CI: 1.106-3.027). People who have the habit of shopping/buying food online during the pandemic have a 1,830 greater tendency to generate more volume of waste compared to people who are not accustomed to buying food online during the pandemic.

Abstract

RSIA NUN Surabaya is a type C private hospital ‘in the ‘field of ‘maternal and ‘child ‘health. Hospitals produce infectious medical waste. In the medical waste management process, there has been a buildup of medical waste at TPS, there is no special route for waste transportation and the use of PPE by waste management officers is not appropriate. The ‘purpose ‘of ‘this study was to determine ‘the ‘medical waste ‘management ‘system ‘at RSIA NUN Surabaya. This ‘type ‘of research is a ‘descriptive observasional ‘research. ‘Data ‘collection was carried out by assessing the medical waste management process, interviews with the head of the sanitation installation and medical waste management officers. The assessment will be compared with Permenkes No. 7 of 2019 concerning Hospital Environmental Health. RSIA NUN Surabaya produces medical waste of 14.29 kg/day. The medical waste management process at the stage of sorting and collecting has been very good with a percentage of 100%. At the transportation stage, it is included in the poor category with a percentage of 64% because there are several components that are not available. At the temporary shelter it is good with a percentage of 80%. The ‘conclusion ‘of this ‘study is ‘that ‘the ‘medical waste management process at RSIA NUN Surabaya is very good and in accordance with Permenkes No. 7 of 2019. In this case the hospital needs to make improvements by fulfilling supporting facilities and infrastructure and providing training to medical waste officers so that medical waste management is carried out well.

Abstract

Medical waste management procedures of health facilities such as the use of plastic bags that have not been in accordance with the type and characteristics of waste, the use of disinfection of medical waste containers that have been used, the lack of use of Personal Protective Equipment. In addition, the knowledge and attitude of medical waste management officers are still low such as the colour of plastic bags used, maximum storage of medical waste. This study used quantitative descriptive methods with a sample of 58 samples using the guttman scale and the likert scale with Multiple Regression analysis. For First Level Health Facilities (FKTP) most have carried out medical waste management in accordance with established regulations but there are some stages that are still low such as Temporary Shelter and Onsite Transportation.  For knowledge (p = 0.031), attitude (p = 0.007) and perception of leadership support (p = 0.000) in medical waste management officers are still relatively low and the result of multiple regressions that knowledge, attitude and leadership support have a real effect on solid medical waste management. For FKTP as Health Centers and Clinics have carried out medical waste management by established standards but for the dentist practice is still low in the application of regulations regarding the management of solid medical waste.

Abstract

The face-to-Face teaching-learning process required several preparations to prevent the re-emergence of Covid-19. Students are the majority of campus inhabitants involved in the teaching-learning process, so compliance in implementing healthy protocols is very important. Hand washing is one of the health protocols which must be carried out because it is an important activity. This research aimed to develop a model of handwashing behaviour and examine the effects of knowledge variables (Z1), attitudes (Z2), and the facilities of soap, water, and hand sanitiser (Z3) on the handwashing behaviour (Y). Model examine used a set of empirical data collected from 101 chemical engineering students randomly. Then, the writers collected, sorted, and analysed the data statistically using descriptive statics, multiple linear regression test, T-test, and F test. Data representation, validation, and data correlation were conducted in MS Excel and SPSS 20. Multiple linear regression test produced the equation of Y = 3.722 + 0.035Z1 + 0.142Z2 + 0.269Z3 + e. The T-test showed that knowledge was not partially affecting handwashing behaviour; both attitude and facilities, each behaviour affected handwashing behaviour partially. The F test explained that knowledge, attitudes, and facilities simultaneously affected hand wash behaviour. Determination coefficient testing of the model showed that knowledge, attitudes, and facilities of soap, water, and hand sanitiser gave 48.3% contribution from all variables which influenced handwashing behaviour. The development of handwashing behaviour could be conducted by providing the stimuli like socialising the importance of handwashing (through posters, banners, and counselling between lecturing) and providing soap, water, and hand sanitiser facilities on campus corners. It involved the students in the socialisation and provided the handwashing facilities.

Abstract

In tropical and humid cities, at night human activities also take place at outdoor space under the open sky, especially around 18.00 to 22.00. Air temperature during that time also tends to be warm, and the humidity has started to increase. The question is how much the thermal comfort level of people at outdoor space so that they feel enjoy and productive for their activities. Through this study, two regression equations was developed in order to predict the level of human thermal comfort at outdoor spaces at night in tropical area. A total of 80 adults consisting of 40 men and 40 women as subjects and respondents have filled out questionnaire about the perception of thermal comfort scales when obtaining various climate penetrations. The respondents wore tropical clothing types. The experiment was carried out at outdoor under open  sky at coastal area in the city of Manado. The climate variables include air temperature, humidity, and wind speed. The regression equation consists of two, namely for the case of activities sitting with light work, and walking leisurely. The equation is in the form of Y=f(Xi), where Y is the scale of perception of comfort, and Xi is the climate variable. The equation produces a predicted range of perception of thermal comfort in terms of  numbers 2 (feeling hot), 1 (feeling a slightly hot), 0 (feeling comfortable), -1 (feeling a slightly cold), and -2 (feeling cold). The R value of the two regression equations are 0.7. One of the results of calculations by using the regression shows that at outdoor spaces, pepole who sit with light work still feel comfortable in a climatic environment with air temperature 320C, humidity 65%, and being touched by a wind speed of 1 m/s.

Abstract

One of the flood-prone sub-districts in Bekasi Regency, namely Cabungbungin District, which since 2018-2020 has experienced an increase in the number of areas experiencing flooding, so an analysis of community preparedness in dealing with floods is needed. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between perceptions of flood risk, experience of flood disasters in a year, and health knowledge about flood-related diseases on community preparedness actions as an effort to mitigate flood disasters. This research is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design with sampling using purposive sampling technique on 100 respondents. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using Chi-square to see the relationship between variables of perception, knowledge, and experience on flood disaster preparedness actions. The results showed that the experience of flooding in the last 1 year and the public's perception of flood risk showed no statistically significant relationship with preparedness actions to face flood disasters (p=0.629 and p=0.295). Meanwhile, the variable of public knowledge about flood disease shows that there is a statistically significant relationship with flood preparedness actions with a value of OR = 4.20 (95% CI: 1.676-10,645 ; p = 0.001). This value shows that people who have low knowledge about flood diseases tend to have 4 times the risk of being less prepared in terms of preparedness for flood disasters.
