Abstract

Social responsibility suggests that an individual has responsibility to the community or society in terms of choices about behaviors. Moral responsibility implies a knowledge and understanding of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ and the ability and willingness to behave morally. These debates reflect the uncertainties about how moral and social responsibility can be conceptualized and promoted within modern societies. Adrift from moral certainties and wary of merely promoting dominant cultural norms, the role of moral reasoning and the ability to rationally choose between moral values is fore fronted, but leaves us with a concern that such choices may lack a coherent value base or ‘morality’. The debate leaves us with the question as to how we promote moral and social responsibility in young people as part of their learning in higher education in ways that promote moral reasoning but also develop values and ethical stances that go beyond, and can contest, the social norms of the times.

Abstract

All over the world, Religion holds a primal place. Every man is said to believe in a ‘god’. Ordinarily there should be no feud in matter of religion, because religion is a personal decision. However, in recent times religion has become an issue and many crimes are committed on the basis of faith. In the 21st century with the promotion of human rights, this ought not to be so. We must note that religion has always been a thorny issue, not with the Christian crusades and the Islamic Jihads. We believe times have changed and each individual should be able to practice his faith without necessarily the follow his fellow. With this at the back of our mind we seek to examine religion, human rights and the challenge of freedom by offering some proposals towards religious harmony in the 21st century.

Abstract

Law can increasingly be seen as part of the framework for accountability in policy interpretation and practice. This is reflected in important judgments in the UK and European context, where courts have been proactive in challenging restrictive interpretations by agencies of their legal duties, or even by parliament in law-making that is incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. Without attention to the practice environment for legal and ethical practice, the role of law in welfare reform will be compromised, however robust the legal framework. Subsequently, empirical work has explored how social workers learn about the law, in both practice and academic environments, and how they use that learning. This paper considers the complex relationships between law, welfare policy and social work practice, to address the question of what role legal frameworks might play in achieving welfare policy and professional practice goals. These debates illustrate is the essentially contested nature of the relationship between law and practice and the delicate balance between law and ethics within a framework for professional accountability. It is hardly surprising, perhaps, that law is often seen by practitioners as alien and hostile territory.

Abstract

In this article, I address paradoxes and ambiguities that result from this double oppression, and discuss some of the questions that arise from the formulation of this dichotomy, which forces women to choose between feminist and nationalist agendas. I discuss who formulates this dichotomy, who identifies nationalism and feminism, and who benefits from this identification. To address these topics, I discuss two specific examples: Muslim women in India and Palestinian women within Israel. The reformulation of nationalist/religious identity in such a way as to make it compatible with a feminist perspective is a very important project. Such a project must be built on changing the dominant culture from within. Such a process is long-term, however, and until it is achieved, women will continue to suffer. We cannot demand that oppressed women wait until the rebuilding of the dominant culture is completed. In reality, there is the possibility that utilizing secular courts will force national/ religious institutions to make positive changes.

Abstract

The mining was declared as a priority sector within the framework of the government policy to support the export industries. In the past years, the mining extraction increased steady and growth showed an increase of 8.3 percent in 2012 compared to the previous year, 19.4 percent in 2013 and 24.4 percent in 2014 respectively. In the current stage when the mining sector production plays a crucial role in the accumulation of the state budget, one of the key issues of improving the benefits of this sector is the impact of the labor force. By the labor market survey of 2013 out of 219013 job offers 14541 jobs or 6.6 percent were in the mining exploration sectors. Due to the mining sector booming, the job opportunities have increased and there is a need for the government policy and regulations for the education policies, curriculum modifications of the universities, colleges and vocation training as well as labor migration. According to the results of the study, the major challenge for the mining sector is lack of creative, enthusiastic and professional personnel. Therefore, identification of the accurate government policies that would ensure the balance between supply, the demand for the human resources in the mining sector and cohesion of the stakeholders are becoming essential.
