Abstract

Law Number 11 of 2006 on the Government of Aceh provides a strong legal foundation for implementing Qanun Aceh Number 11 of 2018 concerning Sharia Financial Institutions. However, its effective integration with Indonesia’s national regulatory framework remains a persistent challenge. This study examines the synchronization between the Qanun and national legislation in the Sharia financial services sector, particularly in supporting the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Aceh. Employing an empirical legal method combined with a qualitative approach, the research collected primary data from Sharia Financial Institutions in Aceh and secondary data through an extensive review of academic literature and policy documents. The findings indicate that harmonizing local and national regulations is essential for strengthening the Sharia banking system, ensuring legal certainty, and enhancing financial inclusion for MSMEs. The study proposes a synchronization model emphasizing collaborative efforts among government authorities, Sharia financial institutions, and MSMEs. Such integration is expected to foster sustainable economic growth while reinforcing Aceh’s unique legal autonomy within Indonesia’s constitutional framework. This study contributes to the discourse on legal pluralism, financial governance, and regional economic empowerment in post-conflict and special autonomy regions.

Abstract

According to Law No. 34 of 2004 Article 8, one of the responsibilities of the Indonesian National Armed Forces is to perform the defense-related functions of the land-based Indonesian National Army. Empowering the land-based defensive zone is one of the other jobs. This indicates that the Indonesian National Armed Forces are also tasked with maintaining public security within the context of ensuring the safety of all citizens in the context of Military Operations for War (OMP) and Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP) on land. Therefore, it makes sense that the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Police, who serve as the main pillars of the country's defense and security, collaborate to carry out their respective missions. The engagement of the Indonesian National Armed Forces in supporting the Police is hampered by several circumstances. One of them is the difficulty in implementing the support duty into their work patterns because there are now no laws or regulations controlling it. Even yet, it is crucial to understand how the participation mechanism works, how far the limits of involvement are pushed, and the circumstances in which the police must request aid from the Indonesian National Armed Forces for their tasks. This paper tries to examine the legal politics of the Indonesian National Armed Forces' objective in Aceh job of providing aid to the police.

Abstract

Aceh, a post-conflict region in Indonesia, continues to face challenges in fostering social cohesion and reconciliation through education. Despite its crucial role in peacebuilding, peace education remains insufficiently integrated into the formal curriculum. This study investigated the systematic incorporation of peace education within the junior high school Social Studies curriculum in Aceh through a Research and Development (R&D) design. The research consisted of three phases: (1) curriculum mapping to identify opportunities for peace-related themes, (2) development of a structured peace education module, and (3) evaluation of its effectiveness through classroom observations, focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews, and pre- and post-tests involving 70 students and 9 teachers in Pidie Regency. Findings showed that values such as tolerance, mediation, and conflict resolution are implicitly present in existing materials but lack structured pedagogical integration. The developed module, validated by experts and teachers, significantly improved students’ understanding of peace concepts, empathy, and conflict resolution skills. Embedding peace education into existing curricula, rather than introducing it as a separate subject, proved more sustainable and contextually effective. The study highlighted the importance of comprehensive teacher training and supportive policy frameworks to enable large-scale implementation, this research supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 and SDG 16), advancing quality education, peace, and strong institutions. The model offers a scalable framework for integrating peace education into Social Studies curricula in other post-conflict regions.

Abstract

This article explores the transmission of identity politics within families and its impact on the attitudes and political choices of first-time voters in Aceh. The significance of this study is emphasized by the electoral periods in Aceh and Indonesia, which are frequently influenced by strong identity politics. The study addresses two main questions: How does family identity influence the political understanding of first-time voters, and how does the transmission of political identity occur within families? Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research collected data through interviews with first-time voters from UIN Ar-Raniry and Universitas Malikussaleh. Findings reveal that in the context of Aceh, political identity, entrenched within family dynamics through political affiliations, religious values, and personal experiences, significantly shapes the political perspectives of first-time voters. Predominantly, the paternal figure acts as the primary agent of socialization, disseminating political orientations through family discussions and daily interactions, often without allowing for critical evaluation. This research confirms that families not only serve as institutions influencing and transmitting political views to first-time voters in Aceh but also restrict their ability to conduct independent political assessments due to the reinforcement of traditional and religious values in this transmission.

Abstract

The Sādah Bā ‘Alawiyyah, as part of the Hadhrami Arab diaspora, has historically contributed to the dissemination of Islam in Indonesia. However, limited scholarly attention has been given to how this community internally manages sectarian differences, particularly between Sunni and Shia members. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating how the Sādah Bā ‘Alawiyyah community in Bondowoso navigates Sunni–Shia tensions through everyday peacebuilding practices. Employing a qualitative grounded theory approach, data were collected via in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The study explores three key issues: the structural dynamics of the Hadhrami Arab community in Bondowoso, the interactional patterns between Sunni and Shia Sadah in daily life, and the socio-cultural mechanisms that prevent conflict escalation. Findings reveal that historical memory, intergenerational kinship ties, and ritual continuity function as core resources for building trust and sustaining peaceful coexistence. Rather than relying on formal institutions, the community resolves tensions through informal, everyday strategies that foster mutual respect and cohesion. Conceptually, the study contributes to diaspora and peace studies by introducing the notion of “family-based everyday peace”, demonstrating that Hadhrami identity is negotiated not merely through religious authority or social status, but through practical, lived strategies for conflict mitigation within plural settings.

Abstract

This study examines how Maqasid Shariah principles influence the evolving discourse on Islamic financial technology (FinTech) at the global level. Based on 397 Scopus-indexed publications from 2019 to 2023, the study employs analytical mapping to explore publication trends, thematic developments, and international collaborations. The findings reveal a surge of scholarly attention between 2019 and 2021, followed by a slight decline, with Malaysia identified as the most active contributor. Six key thematic clusters emerged—covering crowdfunding, blockchain, digital assets, and Islamic banking—indicating a gradual shift of Maqasid Shariah from theoretical discussions to practical applications. Conceptually, Maqasid is framed not only as an ethical compass but as a normative and epistemological foundation that integrates Shariah, economics, and technology. Practically, the study offers insights for policymakers and industry players to align digital finance with justice, transparency, and inclusivity while contributing to broader global agendas such as the SDGs and ESG. Although limited to Scopus data, the study encourages further qualitative and comparative inquiries to deepen understanding of Maqasid implementation and strengthen the development of ethical and sustainable Islamic FinTech ecosystems.

Abstract

In the rapidly evolving landscape of global education, English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/ EFL) pedagogy faces persistent challenges such as declining learner engagement, test-driven instruction, and insufficient development of intercultural competence. Literature, despite its proven capacity to foster linguistic proficiency, critical thinking, and cultural sensitivity, has remained underutilized and inconsistently applied in language classrooms. This study sought to reposition literature as a central element in ESL/ EFL education by examining how it can be systematically integrated into pedagogy. Employing a qualitative content analysis of thirty peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2025, the study synthesized recurring themes across diverse contexts using NVivo-supported coding and thematic analysis. Five key themes emerged: pedagogical effectiveness, learner engagement, cultural relevance, cognitive development, and critical thinking integration. Building on these findings, the study introduced the Literary Integration Pedagogical Framework (LIPF), a model that unifies sociocultural scaffolding, emotional engagement, and critical literacy into a coherent and adaptable approach. The LIPF contributed theoretically by bridging previously fragmented perspectives and practically by offering curriculum designers, educators, and policymakers an evidence-based strategy for revitalizing language teaching. This study demonstrates that literature is not a peripheral supplement but an indispensable resource for cultivating linguistically competent, emotionally intelligent, and critically aware global citizens.

Abstract

The implementation of Islamic inheritance law in Indonesia continues to face interpretive challenges in balancing classical jurisprudence with contemporary demands for gender justice. This study examines how the Indonesian Supreme Court, through landmark decisions—Decision No. 86 K/AG/1994 and Decision No. 184 K/AG/1995—has redefined inheritance principles by granting daughters the legal authority to block the inheritance rights of the testator’s siblings. Employing a normative–juridical approach that integrates statutory, conceptual, and case-based analyses, this research explores the Court’s interpretive reliance on Ibn ʿAbbās’s minority opinion concerning Qur’an 4:176, which equates the inheritance positions of sons and daughters. The findings reveal that the Court’s jurisprudence prioritizes genealogical proximity (qarābah al-dam) over gender preference, thereby reconfiguring inheritance distribution and affirming daughters as residuary heirs (ʿaṣabah). This reinterpretation represents a progressive form of ijtihād qaḍāʾī that harmonizes Islamic law with constitutional principles of equality and justice. Academically, the study contributes a contextual model for integrating maqāṣid al-sharīʿah and civic reason within Indonesia’s plural legal framework; practically, it offers a reference for reforming the Compilation of Islamic Law and advancing gender-equitable inheritance jurisprudence across Muslim-majority societies.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of experiential learning in developing students’ competencies within two Acehnese salafiyah dayah: Mudi Mesra and Ummul Ayman. It aims to reinterpret how experiential learning operates across ritual, vocational, institutional, and digital dimensions, thereby formulating a contextual framework for transformative Islamic education. Using a qualitative multiple-case design, data were collected from fifteen participants—including leaders, teachers, and students—through interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Thematic analysis, supported by triangulation, member checking, and peer debriefing, ensured credibility and reflexivity. Findings reveal that experiential learning is systematically embedded in ritual and communal practices (muhadzarah, khutbah, tajhiz mayat), vocational and entrepreneurial training (banking, printing, tailoring, IT), institutional mediation through teungku-centered authority, and emerging digital engagement such as WhatsApp-based muzakarah. These practices affirm Dewey’s and Kolb’s experiential frameworks while contextualizing constructivist learning within Islamic communal culture. The study introduces the concept of an “experiential ecology of Acehnese dayah,” which integrates spirituality, institutional authority, and innovation. Theoretically, it enriches global debates on experiential pedagogy in faith-based education; practically, it provides a model for enhancing vocational and digital readiness without compromising religious authenticity.

Abstract

The relationship between Islam and science remains a critical issue, particularly within the institutional transformation of Islamic higher education (PTKI) in Indonesia, where universities face the challenge of digitalization while maintaining their religious-epistemological identity. This study examined the strategies of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon to integrate Islamic and scientific knowledge. Using a qualitative methodology, data were collected through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and field observations with faculty, administrators, and students. The findings revealed four strategies: (1) a dialogical and dialectical approach that maintained epistemological integrity between Islam and science; (2) integration of ethics-based knowledge grounded in maqasid al-shariah; (3) an interdisciplinary curriculum combining Islamic and scientific disciplines; and (4) innovations contextualized in locality within cultural and religious traditions. The research proposed the “Muhsin Sejati” framework, an innovative model that distinguishes itself from earlier integration theories by uniquely grounding technological advancements in ethical and spiritual values. This model supported the development of graduates who were technically proficient, ethically responsible, and spiritually conscious. The research contributed to the theory of integrated Islamic education by operationalizing abstract concepts into institutional practices and offers global insights into value-driven educational models. Further studies are recommended to investigate the scalability and long-term effectiveness of the Muhsin Sejati model in various educational contexts.
