Abstract

Mangrove area identically are slum because they are located in river estuaries with unplanned environmental management. Not so with the mangrove area at Gunung Anyar Tambak Surabaya. Women in this region actively carry out nature conservation and protect the environment so that they are well preserved. This research was conducted with the aim to find out how women interpret the triple bottom line concept as a pillar of Corporate Social Responsibility implemented by the National Electricity Company of East Java. Data was collected by FGD, interviews and also environmental observations. Phenomenology as a theory and also the method used in this study. Triple bottom line concept and Corporate Social Responsibility are used to analyse. The results of the study show that the meaning of women about the triple bottom line concept is a part of their daily lives that cannot be separated. The existence and absence of a Corporate Social Responsibility program from the National Electricity Company will make women in the mangrove area of Gunung Anyar Tambak continue to carry out environmental hygiene from garbage flowing in the river. Thus the triple bottom line pillar, namely planet (natural environment) is maintained and benefits profit (profit, second pillar) and this is an active awareness (people, third pillar) of women in the mangrove area of Gunung Anyar Tambak Surabaya.

Abstract

The digital era has ushered the rise in the utilisation of alternative communication platforms in integrated marketing communications (IMC). The contemporary business environment necessitates employing high-yield communication platforms to help sustain and further an institution’s position in the industry. This paper aims to identify the most efficient platforms employed by the university, accounting the preference of the target audience and the platform’s actual reach through a gauge termed coverage index (CI). Results from net 303 valid responses, gathered via an online survey, show that the following in descending arrangement: relatives/friends, open house, social media, and university website are in the upper quartile (CI>67.78%). Further, variance analysis uncovered differences in the preference and reach ratings of certain platforms when respondents are classified according to demographic characteristics. Universities then can strategize their IMC applying high CI platforms. Additionally, the segmented approach to marketing can be incorporated depending on the prospective students’ profile.

Abstract

There was a discussion activity conducted by a small club of the University of Indonesia called SGRC (Support Group and Resource Center on Sexuality Studies) at the beginning of January 2016. It did not only discuss sexuality such as sexual preferences but also conduct peer support for LGBT groups. However, it was reported illegal for many reasons. Although later the “illegal” stamp was dubbed as an "internal problem" of Universitas Indonesia, the effect was unbelievable. The activity of SGRC was reported by media as “LGBT’s attack on campus”, “LGBT is dangerous for campus”, et cetera. Moral, Eastern hemisphere norms, and religious excuses were the main excuses by media to judge and “punish” the LGBT groups. After the SGRC incident, particularly in 2016, the media, both mainstream and online, massively promoted homophobia through hate speech. The media reported the LGBT phenomenon as not only dangerous but also as entities that must be destroyed. Although not as splashy as online news, some television stations reported the case in their ways. TvOne, compared to other Indonesian TV stations, was the most often to discuss LGBT issues from 2016-2018 through a debate programme titled Indonesia Lawyers Club (ILC). The most controversial episode was the one aired on February 16 whose topic was “LGBT Issues is Rising, How Should We React?” in which a participant, a psychiatrist, was accused of delivering false information. His statement was even responded by a U.S.-based international psychiatrist association which later sent him a warning letter. This paper will explore media framing on tvOne’s debate programme using Robert Entman’s Framing Methods. The result shows that through inviting certain debate participants who voiced certain statements, the TV programme promoted not only anti-LGBT actions but also homophobia.

Abstract

It is embedded in human nature to socialise with others. There are countless dating apps and websites that people benefit from; some may be for hook-up purposes, while others are solely for marriage. One of the most popular online dating apps in use nowadays is Tinder, which is simple and straight forward to use. People tend to seek out potential partners for all sorts of reasons; everyone has their agendas and needs to fulfil. Some may look for a long-lasting healthy relationship while others might look for a fling. It is in this context that this research seeks to investigate how the Uses and Gratifications theory helps to understand the usage patterns of the people who seek refuge in online dating, with particular focus on the use of Tinder in Pakistan. The research is based on a survey conducted from three major cities of Pakistan: Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, where the maximum number of Tinder-users was reported. The respondents were between the ages of 18-40. Majority of the users identified themselves as Muslims. The survey results conveyed that the majority of the users use Tinder to gratify their needs, which include forming relations, getting sexual desires fulfilled, making friends and spend their time after a busy day. The findings reveal that the respondents of the study used this app for their psychological needs, such as finding someone talk to when they are lonely and for their social needs as well, such as making friends and meeting new people to increase their social circle.
