Abstract

Nursing service given to a patient will be excellent if the nurse shows her empathy to the patient. The objective of this present research was to analyze the effects of  the active listening technique on the nurses’ emphatic ability in giving a nursing service in the hospital Soewandhi, Surabaya. It was a quasi-experimental  type with non randomized control group, pretest-posttest design.  The population were all nurses in the hospital Soewandhi and the sample was taken randomly. The data were descriptively  and inferentially analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney Test with the level of significance of 0.05. The results showed that  the change of the total mean score in the emphatic abilities in the  control group before and after the intervention was insignificant with the p-value of 0.262.  The intervention group showed a change of the total mean score  in the emphatic abilities before and after the intervention with the p-value of 0.000. Meanwhile,  among the control groups with intervention, a significant difference  was shown with the p-value of 0.001.  The nurses   trained in the application of  the active listening technique showed  better empathy abilities than those who did not get any training.

Abstract

Fruit flies (Bactrocera Sp) has been known as the main pest to the fruits commodity in Indonesia which caused large economic loss. Pandanus leaf (Pandanus Amarylifolius Raxb) already examined that it was contained some chemical componds that have potential to control pests. The purpose of this research was to analyze the effect of pandanus leaf (Pandanus Amarylifolius Raxb) extract to the mortality of adult phase fruit flies (Bactrocera Sp). The research was done by using laboratory experiment with true experimental post test only controlled group design. The result would be observed only after the animal test exposed by pandanus leaf extraxt with concentration variation was 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. Several test also have done in this research such as photochemistry test, spektrofotometer test, and fruit flies (Bactrocera Sp) mortality. The result showed that pandanus leaf (Pandanus Amarylifolius Raxb) extract contain active compound such as flavonoid, essential oil, tanin, saponin, and alkanoid. Statistic result using anova test showed that p value < 0.05 which mean there were a significant difference of fruit flies mortality in each concentrate of pandanus extract and there were significant influence of pandanus extract to the fruit flies (Bactrocera Sp) mortality. Probit results then, showed that LC50 of pandanus leaf (Pandanus Amarylifolius Raxb) extract to fruit flies (Bactrocera Sp) was 5.216%. Abstract

labor. Effects of labor pain includes inflammation in uterus and labor dystocia. Effleurage and counter-pressure massage were complementary treatment to relieve pain. This study aimed to analyze effectiveness of effleurage and counter-pressure massages for reducing labor pain in stage 1 of active labor phase. This study used quasi experiment design with pre-post test non-equivalent control group. Research subjects were 68 mothers in stage 1 of active labor phase, which were divided evenly to two groups. Sampling collection technique used consecutive sampling. Independent variables were effleurage and counter-pressure, while dependent variables were decline of labor pain. Instrument to assess labor pain was Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney. Labor pain before and after intervention in effleurage group were 9.26±1.05 and 6.88±1.22, respectively (p=0.00). Meanwhile, the respective numbers in counter-pressure groups were 9.00±0.98 and 6.59±1.28 (p=0.00). Average labor pain decline in effleurage and counter-pressure groups were 2.38 and 2.41, respectively (p=0.74). There was no significant difference between effleurage and counter-pressure in reducing labor pain. Keywords: Labor pain, Effleurage, Counter-pressure

Abstract

A disaster is an event which causes an interference in a life and and livelihoods in a society. The flood disaster potential happened at Wonoasri village was caused by geographical location from Wonoasri village which is in the form of lowland and many formed lands that are concave. Thus almost each year, those places are experiencing flood. The flood is caused by the overflowing river at Sananrejo, Curahnongko and Mayang River which result in the occurrence of clogging due to sedimentation in some watersheds (referred as DAS in Indonesia). The aimed of this studied was to analyse the flood disaster risk at Wonoasri Village, Tempurejo Sub-District, Jember District.  To did that, this studied used quantitative method and descriptive-analysis.  The analysis of disaster risk was gained through weighing and disaster risk analysis matrix as well as interview and observations. Samples used in this present studied were 110 respondents. They were Wonoasri people consisting of Curahlele and Kraton area.  The leveled of flood disaster risk at Wonoasri Village, Tempurejo Sub-District, Jember District was in the yellow zone meaning that it was placed in the moderate risk leveled with a scale of 2 so the hypothesis statement of flood disaster risk leveled at Wonoasri Village, Tempurejo Sub-District, Jember District. To collected the data, this studied used questionnaire which measured the average score of overall respondents. Disaster risk could be overcome by decreasing the leveled of vulnerability and by increasing community capacity through educating them about disaster handling done through the socialization held periodically for the society and all organizations related to the disaster risk countermeasure. Abstract

The relationship between student interest and learning achievement, until now has not been widely studied. This study aims to explain the relationship between interest and learning achievement of first semester students, Surabaya Ministry of Health Polytechnic, with a cross sectional design. The research subjects were 400 Semester I students of the Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya, 2016/2017 Academic Year, which were selected by simple random sampling technique. Data about student interest is obtained from the results of psychological tests at the time of the selection of new students, while data on student achievement is obtained from the Academic Information system. The collected data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. Students who have high interest tend to have a better semester achievement index.   Keywords: Interest, Learning achievement The relationship between student interest and learning achievement, until now has not been widely studied.
