Abstract

The Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE) is a test mandatory to all aspirant for registration as professional nurses as ordered by RA 9173. The main objective was to determine and evaluate the board exam performance of the Isabela State University Echague Campus-College of Nursing Graduates from year 2015 to 2019. It is also focused on the evaluation of board exam performance of nursing graduates and from year 2015 to 2019 based from their ratings in each test categories. This study has covered 15 graduates in 2015, 10 respondents graduated in 2017, 6 graduates in 2018 and 22 for year 2019. Majority of the 53 acquired respondents are female and 19-25 years old.  Board passers of year 2019 accumulated the highest frequency among other years. Majority of nursing graduates obtained an average general rating (AVR) ranging from 78-80 percent. This study utilized Purposive Sampling in choosing desired respondents and frequency count and percentage was used in gathering data coherently which was recognized as suitable method in identifying the board examination performance. As revealed on nursing graduates ratings in each test categories, Nursing Practice 5 which contains questions with regards to Care of Clients with Physiologic and Psychological Alterations (Part C) or Care of Clients with Physiologic and Psychosocial Alterations (Part C) is the test category which nursing graduates from 2015 to 2019 find difficult. Hence, the 53 respondents have enrolled themselves in their preferred Review Centers than to self-study before taking the Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE). The result of this study is expected to help the institution improve the nursing program and identify strategies to increase board exam performance of the school and ratings of subsequent board takers. Keywords: nurse licensure examination; college of nursing; performance

Abstract

Introduction: Unhealthy behavior in adolescents requires self-regulation to change it. The purposed of behavior change was to prevent hypertension. The purpose of the studied was to determine adolescent self-regulation in preventing hypertension and the factors that influence it. Methods: This type of research is analytic observational, cross sectional design. The population of this research is the second grade junior high school students in Surabaya. The sample size is 210 people. Sampling with probability sampling type multistage sampling. The variables studied were self-regulation and external driving factors. Data analysis using SEM. Results: The regulation of self-care in adolescents in physical activities and sports is mostly sufficient, the regulation of eating is sufficient, stress management is mostly sufficient, efforts to avoid smoking are mostly sufficient and monitoring of ideal body weight is mostly lacking. Analysis using the t test showed that there was a significant influence between the driving factors for self-regulation with p = 0.022. Discussion: External driving factors are important for adolescents to regulate their behavior in preventing hypertension. Family can become a role model for adolescents. Cooperation with health workers to provide education in schools is needed to increase adolescent knowledge. Keywords: self regulation; adolescent; prevent; hypertension

Abstract

Overweight and obesity in adolescents have adverse consequences on premature mortality and physical morbidity in adulthood. In Indonesia, the prevalence of overweight or obesity among adolescents is higher than was predicted. Gaining a better understanding of overweight/obesity and its gender specified correlates will provide the recommendation of the best way to control body weight among adolescents. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with the BMI between males dan females junior high school students. This cross sectional study used data from a school health survey in eight junior high schools which were selected using cluster random sampling and included 590 students aged 11 to 16 years old. Multinomial logistic regression was used to analyze the association between the related factors and the BMI. The result showed that more females (66.7%) were underweight than males (58.6%), but fewer females (3.5%) than males (7.2%) were overweight or obese. Among male students, active school transport was associated with being underweight (OR: 3.34; 95% CI: 1.737 – 6.431), while adequate fruits consumption was associated with smaller odds of being overweight/obese (OR: 0.24; 95% CI: 0.097 – 0.838). No association was found among females. Active school transport and adequate fruit consumption might help male students in junior high schools had lower BMI than female students. Keywords: body mass index; physical activity; sedentary behavior; diet; adolescents

Abstract

The success of orthodontic treatment can be achieved through tissue, cellular and molecular mechanisms due to mechanical stimuli formed by the pressure side and the tension side. Sodium Fluoride (NaF) is known to increase the bone formation process in the area of attraction in vitro and in vivo. The study aimed to determine sodium fluoride (NaF) against Caspase-3 by osteoblasts and IL-10 by osteoclasts in alveolar bone remodeling on orthodontic tooth movement. The research applied laboratory experiment using 16 male Wistar rats. Rats were divided into two groups; group C: given orthodontic strength without NaF; and group T: given orthodontic strength with NaF. Variable measurements were carried out after the 7th and 14th day. The data was statistically tested using One-Way Anova test analysis (p ≤0.05) to compare the mean number of expressions of both groups C and T. The number of osteoclasts expressing IL-10 was significantly higher in group T when compared to that of group C while the number of osteoblasts expressing Caspase-3 was smaller in group T when compared to that of group C. NaF can increase IL-10 expression in osteoclasts and decrease Caspase-3 expression by osteoblasts on orthodontic tooth movement. Keywords: Caspase-3; IL-10; sodium fluoride (NaF); immunohistichemistry
