Abstract

The main objective of caries prevention programs in the community is to reduce the number of colonies of cariogenicbacteria, especially Streptococcus. A method of caries preventionthat is currently developed is a method using probioticsthrough yogurt. This research is a laboratory based experiment using the cross over with control group design. Fifteensamples were collected randomly from a population of preclinical dentistry students of Hasanuddin University fromentry year 2008 until 2010. The results showed a significant difference between before and after drinking yogurt wherethe number of colonies of cariogenic bacteria in saliva reduced (p<0.05)and there is also a significant differencebetween the temperature of the yogurt in reducing the average number of cariogenic bacteria in the saliva after six andnine days yogurt consumption (p<0.05). In addition, there is a significant difference pH of saliva between before andafter drinking yoghurt (p <0.05). It is concluded that drinking yogurt reducts colony of cariogenic bacteria in youngadult saliva

Abstract

Clinical indications and contraindications for insertion path of removable partial denture (RPD)have been welldiscussed in the literature. However, specific discussion of proper laboratory technique and procedure for dentaltechnician is scarce and limited. This article describes two problems that dental technicians occasionally encounterwhich make the fabrication of rotational insertion path of RPD difficult or impossible. Design modifications by theclinician can eliminate problems faced by technicians in determining the proper path of insertion. Lack of clinicalexperience and/or guidance from the literature related to the insertion path of RPD design may cause laboratoryand clinical problems. The recognition of these potential problems will minimize the laboratory and clinicalproblems

Abstract

Various types of facial anatomy landmarks which must have an appropriate proportion to the size of the tooth is interalar width, intercommisural width, interpupillary width, intercanthal width, and byzigomatic width. Different facial anatomy landmark is influenced by age, gender, region of residence and origin of his tribe. Tribe or race is a race classification based on physical characteristics, such as face shape, hair, and skin color. The tribes who originally inhabited the Southeast Sulawesi namely Tolaki tribe, Muna tribe and Buton tribe. All three of these tribes have typical anatomical landmarks. The objective of this study was to evaluate the correlation between interalar width and intercommisural width against mesiodistal incisivus centralis width in a group of Buton tribe. Ninety five Buton tribe subjects aged 17-25 were selected. The interalar width, intercommisural width, and mesiodistal incisor centralis teeth were measured using caliper about three times for accuracy and precision. The degree of correlation between interalar width against mesiodistal incisor centralis maxilla width was 0.278 and 0.325 in Buton tribe and females (p<0.05) and 0.168 in males (p>0.05). the degree of correlation etweenintercommisural width against mesiodistal incisor centralis maxilla width was 0.310 and 0.420 in Buton tribe and females (p<0.05) and 0.125 in males (p>0.05). The degree of correlation between interalar width against intercommisural width was 0.565,0.585, and 0.455 in Buton tribe , males and females (p<0.05). In conclusion, there is a significant correlation between interalar width and incommisural width against mesiodistal incisor centralis maxilla width in a group of Buton tribe. Interalar width and intercommisural width directly proportional to mesiodistal incisor centralis maxilla width in both of gender of Buton tribe.

Abstract

Panoramic radiography is a technique to yield face structure photo including bone ofmaxilla, mandible and supporting structures like maxilla antrum, nasal fossa, TMJ,procesus styloideus, and os. hyoid. Panoramic radiography is also used to evaluateasymmetrical of face. Growth and development of head is similar to the growth anddevelopment of body in general. The skeletal morphology can be disturbed by internaldisorder of TMJ and degenerative joint disease as short ramus, a sharp angle of mandible, and also cranial base that cause asymmetrical face. By taking accurate panoramicradiography, the mandible asymmetrical can be measured.
