Abstract

Introduction: gingival hyperplasia is a result of administration from some anticonvulsant drugs, immunosuppressants, and calcium channel blockers that well known can cause problems when speaking, mastication, tooth eruption, and aesthetic. Calcium channel blockers are a class of drugs developed for the care of cardiovascular conditions. Some of these drugs can cause gingival enlargement.  Case: A 55-year-old female patient came to Periodontal Department of Hasanuddin University Dental Hospital,Makassar. Patients present with a less comfortable and did not feel confident with the condition of the front of the upper jaw gums since three months ago. These symptoms begin to be felt since taking drugs for hypertension disease with amlodipine with 10 mg 1 time a day. The patient began to feel a change in the form of excessive enlargement of the gums almost the entire upper jaw teeth. Management of Case: Disinfection area of operation, anesthesia with lidocaine 2% of nor epinephrine, marking the pocket using the pocket marker basis, incision using Krickland knife, removal of gingiva using papilla Orban knife and performed by scaling and root planing, periodontal pack was used. Conclusion: Patients who took the drug amlodipine as calcium channel blocker classification in the long-term directly effects the growth of excess gingival tissue, causing gingival enlargement. Keyword: Hyperplasia Gingiva, Amlodipine

Abstract

Curcuma zedoaria has long been known to be used in treatment of dermatophytosis; a skin disease caused by dermatophytes fungi such as Trichophyton mentagrophytes. The fungi infects hairs, skins, and nails that contain keratin. The study was conducted in order to measure the effect of ethanol extract of curcuma zedoaria in inhibiting Trichophyton mentagrohytes colonies. Results showed that the curcuma zedoaria ekstract inhibited Trichophyton mentagrophytes. The research was continued by Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) test by liquid dilution method in Sabaroud Dekstrosa Broth. Ethanol extract curcuma zedoaria did not indicate the value of the MIC test  because due to the color and viscosity of samples which interfere with the observations. As for the positive control shows a clear color, that  indicating the presence of inhibitory Trichophyton mentagrophytes by ketokonazol. For the value of the Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC) to Trichophyton mentagrophytes are present in a concentration of 50%.

Abstract

This research methanol extract srikaya leaf performed to formulate ointments in bases variation that were hydrocarbon base, absorption base, water-soluble and emultion base. The aim was to determine which one the most stable base contain the methanol extract srikaya leaf. Stability evaluation maked in two condition were before and after stress condition at 5oC – 35oC for 10 cycles, by which the parameters were organoleptic observation, viscosity measurement, and yield value determination. Result of organoleptic showed that there was not alteration in color, smell, and consistency of those four bases, before and after stress conditioned. Statistyc data analyse of viscosity measurement showed that formula in absorption base was the stable one due to no alteration before and after accelerated condition. Yield value showed that there was thixotrophy plastic flowing exhibited by rheogram. And of those four formula ointment types of methanol extract srikaya leaf (Annona squamosa L) that have been made in, absorption base was the most stability optimum base.Key words : Srikaya Leaf, Formulation, Ointments
