Abstract

This study aims to describe mathematical communication skills in terms of gender and personality type of grade VII students of SMPN 5 Langke Rembong. This research is qualitative research using a descriptive approach. The study subjects consisted of 4 people with details of 2 male subjects and 2 female subjects with introvert-extrovert personality type. The data collection techniques used are tests, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using the Miles & Huberman model data analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The validity of the data in this study used triangulation (sources and techniques). The results showed that both male and female students were able to express mathematical ideas in writing correctly and completely, were able to evaluate mathematical ideas in solving the problem correctly, and the solution steps were written sequentially, completely, and correctly, and were also able to write the conclusion of solving the problem given. However, when viewed from the personality type of male subjects with extroverted types, they were less superior in evaluating mathematical ideas, especially in the aspect of writing the formula used to solve the problem.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the relational thinking profile of students with field independent and field dependent cognitive styles in solving contextual problems. There are seven study groups in class VII MTsN 1 Surabaya City and two male students from class VIIA totaling 40 students were selected as subjects based on the results of the GEFT cognitive style test and equivalent mathematical ability. Students who got a GEFT score ≤ 9 were classified as field dependent (SFD) and field independent (SFI) got a score > 9. Subjects with field independent cognitive style (SFI) were selected with a score of 11, subjects with field dependent cognitive style (SFD) with a score of 7 with TKM results, namely 77 and 82. Data collection techniques in this study used TPM and interviews. Data analysis was carried out by means of data reduction, presentation and conclusion drawing. Valid data obtained through time triangulation. The results showed that in understanding the problem, (1) SFI and FFD students found important elements in a given problem. Learners SFI describes the relationship between the elements in the problem while students SFD can not explain. Learners FI and FD build relationships in determining the completion planning strategy and checking again using arithmetic operations and carrying out the plan made. Learners FI solves the problem using another method while learners FD uses the usual way. Learners FI do the recalculation while students SFD counts back by way of substitution.

Abstract

This research discusses the student understanding of mathematical concepts in solving story problems based on APOS theory. The method used in this research is qualitative. The subjects were 3 students of class XI IPS-1. The subjects selected are subjects that have all the conceptual understanding indicators. The research instrument used was test questions and sheets interview. The data collection techniques were test, interviews and documentation. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of the study showed that 2 students fulfilled all stages of APOS perfectly, namely action, process, object and scheme. While 1 student only reached the action stage. The student was unable to reach the process, object and scheme stages. This is because the student only understands the concept verbally and does not understand the meaning of the concept of arithmetic sequences and series.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the effect of mathematics anxiety on students' mathematical communication skills. The research method used in this study is meta-synthesis, which is a qualitative systematic review that analyzes articles relevant to the research title. The steps taken are to formulate the research problem, followed by searching for research that has been done that is relevant to the same title, then analyzing the research results in depth. The data collection technique used is non-test by reviewing research that has similar problems to obtain results and conclusions. This study surveyed several national articles. Analysis of the articles resulted in the conclusion that mathematical anxiety has a negative impact on students' mathematical communication skills. Students who have high mathematical anxiety have low mathematical communication skills. While students with low mathematical anxiety have a high level of mathematical communication skills.

Abstract

Students with well-developed metacognition tend to excel in problem-solving. This study examines the metacognitive skills of junior high school (MTs) students in solving three-dimensional geometric problems, focusing on gender differences. The analysis involves three stages of metacognition: planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study selected three male and three female students from 35 ninth-grade students. Data were gathered through mathematics learning outcome documents, metacognitive essay tests, and interview guidelines. The results reveal that male students face challenges across all three metacognitive stages when solving geometric problems, whereas female students encounter difficulties primarily at the evaluation stage. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to strengthen metacognitive skills, particularly in problem-solving contexts, while addressing gender-specific challenges.
