Abstract

Background: The nurse's verbal and non-verbal communication greatly affects the readiness of the patient and the patient's family to undergo surgery. Unclear communication causes misperceptions and the emergence of communication barriers in the nurse-client interaction process. The limited time and information provided are the causes of communication barriers in the client care process. This of course greatly affects patient care, especially in conditions that require intensive care. Methods: This study aims to determine the relationship between verbal and non-verbal communication between nurses and perceptions of communication barriers in families of pre-surgery patients in the intensive care unit, with a correlation design using a Cross Sectional study approach. The number of samples was 95 families of preoperative patients in the intensive care unit using purposive sampling technique. Results: 51.6% of nurses' verbal communication was good, and 50.5% of nurses' nonverbal communication was good, and there were no communication barriers between nurses and patients' families (54.7%). There was a significant relationship between nurses' verbal communication with perceptions of family communication barriers in pre-surgery patients in the intensive room (P=0.001) and there was a correlation between nurses' nonverbal communication with perceptions of family communication barriers in pre-surgery patients in the intensive room (P=0.002). Recommendation: Nurses are expected to continue to communicate effectively verbal and non-verbal with patients and families to prevent barriers in communication.

Abstract

Background: HIV/AIDS infection in pregnant women can threaten the life of the mother and can transmit it to her baby. Lack of knowledge regarding the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to baby, will further increase the risk of transmission which will affect the increase in new cases. The aims of the study was to determine the relationship between residence, education level, marital status, employment status, exposure to information sources, and welfare index, as well as to determine the factors that most influence the knowledge of women of childbearing (WUS) about the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to baby. Methods: Using analytic survey data a cross-sectional study design. The population in this study were WUS in 34 Provinces in Indonesia. The sample selection was based on ratio using used stratification and multistage random sampling. The sample in this study were all WUS in Indonesia who had heard about HIV/AIDS. Data was collected by observating the 2017 IDHS data. The data were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. Result: The only variables related to knowledge about the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to baby are place of residence and welfare index, while other variables: education level, marital status, employment status, and information sources have no relationship. Residence and welfare index are the most influential variables. Recommendation: To increase knowledge about the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to baby, by involving related institutions that have authority to formulate policies to increase WUS knowledge.

Abstract

Background: Arabica coffee is a plant that is believed to be used as a medicine, namely as a treatment for diabetes and as an immune system. Arabica coffee leaves contain chemical compounds of flavonoids, saponin alkaloids and polyphenols which act as antibacterial. This study, tested the inhibition of the ethanolic extract of arabica coffee leaves (Coffea arabica L.) against the growth of Eschrichia coli bacteria. The aims of this study was to determine the inhibitory ability of the ethanolic extract of arabica coffee leaves on the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria with a concentration of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80 % and 100%. Methods: The method used is the disk diffusion. Arabica coffee leaf extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent with Amoxicillin used as a positive control. This research was conducted at the AKAFARMA Laboratory from 18 to 25 June 2020. Result: The results showed that the ethanolic extract of arabica coffee leaves was able to inhibit the Escherichia coli bacteria. With the resulting inhibition zone diameter at concentrations of 20% 10 mm, 40% 12 mm, 60% 13 mm, 80% 14 mm and 100% 17 mm. Recommendation: This test needs to be carried out on other bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans and Stapylococcus aureus and others and it is necessary to test other parts such as flowers, seeds and fruit flesh using different methods.

Abstract

Background: The Ministry of Health has trained acupuncture 203 doctors from 160 Government-Owned Hospitals, 1 Army-owned Hospital, 41 Community Health Centers and 1 Health Service Unit owned by the Ministry of Health from 2013 to 2018. One of the hospitals being trained is the Tebet Regional General Hospital and to date have not provided acupuncture services, therefore researcher is interested in analyzing the development of acupuncture services. Result: The hospital has characteristics within the average limit because as a class D hospital it is fully accredited and has a vision as a C class hospital. The unavailability of acupuncture services is due to the lack of support from hospital management and the absence of infrastructure. The hospital responds to opportunities within moderate limits and avoids threats within moderate limits such as it makes all visiting patients to be served as long as they have a health insurance card. The results of the Internal External Matrix show that the strategic position of the acupuncture services development business unit is hold and maintain. Recommendation: Efforts to develop acupuncture services require a good marketing strategy to obtain information about competitors and customer needs. Therefore, this strategy will require a lot of new investment in its implementation because it must be preceded by market research.

The sampling technique uses a primary sampling unit. Data analysis using the chi-square test and logistic regression test. The research results revealed that 56.02% used traditional family planning and 43.98% used modern family planning. Results: The analysis results showed that there was an influence of the information received on the choice of contraceptives (p=0.04 and OR=0.67). This means that the information received by WUS is 0.67 times more likely to choose a modern contraceptive method.
