This study aims to improve and deepen people’s scientific knowledge of settlement pattern of Dusun Wetan Mantran Magelang in the frame of Javanese culture as well as to support the effort to preserve the settlement pattern of the hamlet. An empirical approach was used in this study. The data were collected through field observations, interviews, and from a number of Javanese culture literatures. Riverbanks are one of the urban areas that often experience decrease in its environment quality. This is caused by the improper utilization of riverbanks as a living space. Consequently, the quality of adequate housing for the community is difficult to achieve. Although the government has tried to build flats as a solution to the problem, some residents choose to abandon them because of its formal and rigid vertical dwelling model that make the residents feel lack of togetherness and interaction between community. This kind of communal perspectives sometimes cannot be found when they live in horizontal dwelling (kampung). The purpose of this paper is to generate recomendation for a vertical dwelling model based on the form of community interaction in Kampung Gampingan, located at the Winongo River. The paper is expected to be an alternative solution for stakeholders in planning and designing settlements, especially in villages on the banks of urban rivers. © 2019 Sidhi Pramudito, Antonius Lanang Tegar Wicaksana Praptantya, David Jeffry Nasir

Surabaya is the second most populated city in Indonesia. Its ever-growing population creates a problem with its limited number of low-cost housing. Seeing how slow the progress of constructing low cost vertical housing to meet the demands, it requires a faster and more efficient way. By using a modular construction method, this paper tries to analyze the benefit of using an alternate material such as prefabricated CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) panel. CLT panel shows a high potential in creating a better construction that is more environmentally friendly while still benefiting from a faster and lower cost by overall. Siwalankerto vertical housing was chosen due to its modular style of design and usage of material in its façade that is easier to simulate using a prefabricated material. Its location in Surabaya that is near Gresik where the manufactures capable manufacturing the prefabricated material also make it a great choice. This paper limits itself on construction efficiency and effectiveness simulated towards using prefabricated CLT panel and the effects of said material to the organization of rooms inside the building. © 2019 Wisnu A. The Research based on an intercultural contact approach is significant to study the traditional settlements and to support the preservation of local culture-based architecture in Indonesia. The Kaenbaun village inhabited by Dawan tribes is a vernacular village and organized based on local resources (physical-natural, technological, economic, social and cultural) fully. It is believed that even the ancestral spirits were involved in structuring settlements and the process of village life. The Kaenbaun's culture is a mixture of Dawan culture and the faith and dogma of the Catholic church which form Kaenbaun's wisdom and underlie the behavior of citizens and the spatial layout of Kaenbaun's settlements. The study was conducted by using field observation guided by Husserlian phenomenological paradigm. The data were processed based on inductive-qualitative thinking by using the field notes taken from field research activities in 2004 to 2010. Data were also supplemented by actual information gathered in 2010-2018 through digital media. The result showed that the local wisdom of Kaenbaun (Kaenbaun's wisdom) emerged from the Dawan culture with the acculturation of Catholic faith and dogma becoming a guideline for the behavior of citizens and the spatial structure of the Kaenbaun village settlement architecture. The Kaenbaun's wisdom is the concept of Kaenbaun's ideal life where humans live in harmony with their fellow humans, harmony with nature, blessed by their ancestors and blessed by God. © 2019 Yohanes Djarot Purbadi, Achmad Djunaedi, Sudaryono

Anthropology approach as a balancer of ecological footprint calculation models in Tourism Village Tourism is currently experiencing a shift from mass tourism to special interest tourism focusing on nature and culture. In the context of preservation, rural tourism experiences a sharp pros and cons as supporting or inhibiting aspects of conservation. This study uses one of the environmental conservation evaluation instruments with an ecological footprint calculation model that analyzes quantitatively the aspects of transportation, water use, clothing use, recreation, food, garbage and shelter. Given the limitations of the ecological trace calculator model to be applied in tourism villages, the implementation of the model needs to be modified using the anthropological approach. The research method used is action research participation by measuring the impact of tourism activities in rural areas using simple indicators of ecological footprint calculations and equipped with in-depth interviews to explore aspects of collective behavior as the focus of the anthropological approach studied. Case studies include three villages in the Yogyakarta region, namely Pentingsari in Sleman regency, Lopati in Bantul and Kalibiru districts in Kulonprogo district. The results obtained are recommendations for anthropological approaches to evaluate the ecological footprint results so that they are more appropriate if they are used as an environmental conservation action plan in a tourist village with the emphasis on forming awareness of living with nature. © 2019 Anna Pudianti, Vincentia Reni Vitasurya

Façade characteristics of Indich buildings in Jalan Prawirotaman Yogyakarta Prawirotaman, Yogyakarta has a unique characteristic with the facade of Indich buildings which used to be the house for Kraton warriors and continued to grow, so that many new buildings emerged with a modern style that could eliminate identity and characteristics in the Jalan Prawirotaman area. Therefore, we need a comprehension of the façade characteristics for Indich buildings so that it can be used as an idea in the design of buildings in the future. This study uses the rationalistic paradigm with qualitative deductive methods. The results of the study show types in each element and the most dominant types including limasan roof with the addition of a small roof (due to the addition of the front room) with clay tile, concrete material walls with cream or white color, the door uses 2 door leaves wood material combination glass rayban, glass massif window, elevation of the floor between 20-60 cm (requires stairs for access) and dominated by one-story buildings. Facade pattern of the entire Indich buildings in the Jalan Prawirotaman area has an asymmetrical pattern but seems balanced and ornaments in the building are in the ventilation, while the column with firm lines and concrete material elements shows the different characteristics variables from the characteristics Indich building basic theory. Examples of the different elements are the windows and building patterns because of the current development and changed by building owners. © 2019 Dessy Anggraini, Dwita Hadi Rahmi
