The effect of tourism on function adaptation, forms and space of puri architecture, a case study: at Puri Saren Agung Ubud Balinese traditional architecture is an architecture that grows and develops in the midst of its people. Efforts to safeguard Balinese culture (including its architecture) as a magnet (tourism) of attraction have been carried out since the Dutch Colonial government as "Baliseering", followed by the new order Government through "Tourism-Culture" and the latest entering the 21st century with slogans "Ajeg Bali”. At the present time it cannot be denied that tourism is Bali's main commodity sector in the development effort and increasing the level of welfare of the people (including the puri family). Puri is a palace and the center of government in the era of the kingdom in Bali. Puri has the essence and important role in the community until now. Some tourist activities within the Puri include royal wedding, royal dinner, art performances & exhibitions, guest houses and so on. This condition resulted in the occurrence of an architectural adaptation of both the function, spatial structure and shape of the building according to the needs of tourists, while on the other hand there was an effort to maintain the existence of Balinese castle architecture. This study was designed using a qualitative method with a descriptive approach at Puri Saren Agung Ubud. Puri as an architectural object in the past and efforts to maintain its existence both at present and in the future can be seen as a factual and interesting topic for the development of traditional (traditional) architectural science, specifically related to the social and cultural development of Balinese society. © 2019 Rachmat Budihardjo

The loss of pedestrian shopping street characters in Jalan Tunjungan due to the transformation of Surabaya as a Metropolitan City In general, there are centers of commercial activity in a city. Through the patterns of development of commercial activities, a pedestrian shopping street typology which prioritizes pedestrians in its pattern and activity system was born. Jalan Tunjungan Surabaya represents this typology well because it was developed to be a pedestrian-based shopping area in Gemeente government era. Along with the development of Surabaya, the uniqueness of the urban artefact of Tunjungan area is transformed and being dominated by multi-storey buildings and Jalan Tunjungan became a city axis. The uniqueness of Jalan Tunjungan which was able to attract tourists is endangered due to the demands of Surabaya's economic development. Through a synchronic-diachronic approach with qualitative-descriptive methods, this study aims to identify patterns, types, and systems that create the physical-spatial characteristics of pedestrian shopping street in Jalan Tunjungan that has remained adapted and lost due to the transformation of Surabaya as a metropolitan city. Through comparative analysis, the findings conclude that the only thing remains is the linearity pattern of the building structure, while the type of road is adapted into one-way avenue with planned lane division and the addition of on-site parking system. Building types is adapted into commercial buildings. The characteristics of the arcades in some buildings are lost, the transportation system removes the passenger stop, the bridge is no longer being used, and the pedestrian pattern is disrupted due to the pattern of traffic. Jalan Tunjungan, which used to prioritize the experience of shopping by walking, has been degraded to a shopping street area. © 2019 Anneke Clauvinia Patriajaya, Yohanes Karyadi Kusliansjah

Sacred poetic expression on the architectural form of Gereja Protestan di Indonesia bagian Barat (GPIB) Paulus in Jakarta Church architecture shows the expression of its functions in layers. The first layer can be captured in a perception through its expression indicating sacred functions. The next layer was captured associatively on its influenced expression of church tradition and ideology. In the highest layer the sacred expression is displayed poetically. The poetic expression appearing in church architecture strongly supports its sacred functions. The nature of poetic that evokes the feeling and evoked imagination fits perfectly with the sacred functions of the Church as a threshold that marks the differences of the profane and sacred worlds, to deliver the congregation to God that is worshipped. The study aims to trace the entire relationship between the architectural form and space of the GPIB Paulus church with the sacred poetic expression shown. The results of the study are expected to add to the concept of church architecture as well as for related research. The method used in this study was first, redrawing the building of GPIB Paulus Church, to gain an understanding of the right architectural form. Second, analyze the appearance of church architecture shapes. The analysis based on the reference to read the sacred poetic expression, which is formulated through the elaboration of the concept of layers of sacred poetic in the architectural properties and compositions in each scope of architecture, covering the scope of environment, scope of site, scope of building, and scope of shape. Based on analysis results can be traced the concept of sacred poetic meanings to the architecture of Paul’s Church. The results concluded that the architecture of Paul's Church within the scope of site, building and shape featured a sacred expression at the level of perception and associative. In the scope of environment, the Church of Paul displays sacred expressions at the level of the poetic, expressed from the shape of the building. The proportion of the cross-shaped roof with the tower contrasts in a landscape setting in front of it, awakening the imagination of the dwelling of God in the highest places. © 2019 Tine Abrianti, Purnama Salura

Heat transfer simulation on the wall with Thermal 7.7 software Counting the heat transfer in building is not something complicated. There are quite a lot of computer simulation software offering precision and variants which meet the needs of the users. Software Therm offers one advantage, which is user-friendly, and can be used for a real plane in building design and can even be used to count the heat transfer in a building map. The difficulty in using this application is the limitation in building material library which is suitable for daily building materials in Indonesia. However, this software allows the users to add building material library by filling in with building material value in connection with simple therm. This research is based on the internal research funded by Soegijapranata Catholic University, the aim of which is to analyze the field of wall materials by utilizing Software Therm with real heat transfer simulation and accurate calculation by mapping plane wall cutting. This research is based on the internal research funded by Soegijapranata Catholic University, the aim of which is to analyze the field of wall materials by utilizing Software Therm with real heat transfer simulation and accurate calculation by mapping plane wall cutting. Descriptive research design is applied to describe the heat transfer through walls by using software Therm and the effects of the heat transfer toward the inside room so that it can provide positive response to anticipate thermal effects entering the building. The finding of this research is expected to be able to become the basis for building design which must give special attention to the direction of building orientation so that the heat transfer of the effects of sunlight toward the wall can be found and be wisely anticipated. © 2019 Leonardus Murialdo Fransiskus Purwanto

The active design evaluation on the media of active living around urban public space The rise of development, technology and culture in urban communities has produced various positive and negative impacts, one of the negative impacts is the decline in public health factors and the increase of various cardiovascular diseases in urban communities caused by sedentary lifestyle. Based on this phenomenon we began to develop the Active Design principle. The active design is a design principles to makes some environment that can stimulate its users to carry out physical activity naturally. The active design principles has a significant impact on improving public health factors when applied around the centre of communities activities. Along with this phenomenon, the city of Bandung has carried out various revitalization on its public open spaces, one of which is revitalization in the Saparua park, which has become the centre of community activities in sports and recreation. This is a qualitative-descriptive study with the aim of evaluation. The research begins by formulating active design indicators from various literatures, then evaluating the object of study based on the indicators. Produce an understanding of the extent to which the principles of active design materialize on the object of study, the potential for future development and any manifestations that can be used as examples for design elsewhere. © 2019 Raden Rangga Ilham Irfandian, Herman Wilianto

Basic architectural expression of a cultural center, study object: Volkstheater Sobokartti in Semarang, Indonesia The absence of specific guidelines is the main reason that cultural centers in Indonesia were often using an existing building that is not designated as cultural center and/or are designed with modern styles that are completely different from the existing architectural styles. This research is specifically focused on the issue of basic architectural expression in the Volkstheater Sobokartti Cultural Center. The main purpose of this research is to reveal architectural meaning based on the basic-expression of the Volkstheater Sobokartti Cultural Center. This research utilized theories such as: cultural center, architectural expression, and interpretation of architectural meaning. These theories together with the study object are then analyzed and elaborated in-depth using architectural anatomy and ordering principles theories. This research succeeded in compiling a reference of basic architectural expression as a basis for designing and/or interpreting the meaning of a cultural center. The result of this research can be used as: a design input/consideration for architects and stakeholders in designing and/or interpreting the meaning of a cultural center for students, academicians, architects, and concerned community; a starting point for other similar research.

Dynamic of changes, transformation and permanency in environment of Pasar Baru Bandung from 1906 - 2019 Pasar Baru as one of the growth poles of the city center of Bandung, whose development has helped to shape the urban characteristics of the downtown area. This environment undergoes changes and transformation in pattern, type, and system which related to its physical environment, during the initial formation of the area until now. The purpose of this study is to describe the non-physical change, transformation, and permanency in the Pasar Baru Bandung environment which affect it characteristics. The study approach is synchronic-diachronic with descriptive qualitative methods using historical reading from 1906 to 2019 and tissue analysis in 2019. Research carried out around Pasar Baru Bandung, including Jalan Otto Iskandardinata, Jalan ABC, Jalan Pecinan Lama, Jalan Alkateri and small streets in between. The results of this study indicate that the change in system often occurs in the environment related to access, however, access does not have any significant transformation compared to the physical structure. The function in the environment tends to be permanent compared with the transformation in building and the mass density of the environment.
