Abstract

Critical thinking as 21st-century skill is important, but students' low critical thinking skills are a problem that is often found. This study aims to develop STEM digital media to improve students' critical thinking skills on Archimedes' principle. The subjects of this research included 15 validators and 42 students of SMP Negeri 2 Balai. This type of research is Research & Development (R&D) with nine steps of the Dick, Carey, & Carey instructional model. Product validation results show Aiken's V average in the design, media, and material aspects of 0.85; 0.93; and 0.89 so that the media is declared valid in each aspect. The results of formative evaluation in one-to-one evaluation, small group evaluation and field trial evaluation are categorized as very good. The N-gain value from the pretest and posttest is known to be 0.36 (moderate). The effect size of media is 2.44 (high). The implication of this research is the STEM approach combined with digital media has a positive influence on students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the quality of interactive e-modules based on articulate storyline to improve the evidence-based reasoning abilities of junior high school students in learning natural sciences. The type of this research is research and development (Research and Development) with the ADDIE development model. The stage of e-module development consist of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The data collection techniques include interviews, observation, and documentation. The data from student response questionnaires and observation of learning implementation were analyzed with percentage analysis. The data of evidence-based reasoning ability were analyzed with n-gain analysis. The results showed that the validity of the interactive e-module was 94.25%, with a very valid category. Student response to interactive e-modules was 81.88% with positive criteria, and the implementation of learning using interactive e-modules was 90% with perfect types. The n-gain analysis show that learning using interactive e-modules can increase evidence-based reasoning abilities by 0.31 in the moderate category.

Abstract

One of the abilities that students should be masters of is the capacity for mathematical reasoning. The ability of good mathematical reasoning will really help them in resolving common mathematical problems. Another aspect that affects student’s ability to solve problems requiring mathematical reasoning is learning style. The study uses  a method that is qualitative with the type of case study. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of mathematical reasoning of Class VIII A at Srengat 3 Junior High School to a visual learning style in solving mathematical problems on the material algebraic form. The results showed that students with visual learning styles are able to meet 4 indicators of the ability of mathematical reasoning, which is sense-making, conjecturing, convincing, and generalising.

Abstract

English reading can be challenging for language learners, as they often require a high level of comprehension and critical thinking skills. Developing a strategy for identifying the main idea of each paragraph can be a helpful tool for improving reading proficiency. This study investigated the effectiveness of teaching students to identify the main idea of each paragraph in order to empower their English reading skills. The study employed an experiment with a pre and post-test design, with 22 students from St. Paul Minor Seminary participating in the study. The pre and post-test design was used to measure the effectiveness of the intervention. The pre and post test results were analyzed with a dependent sample t-Test to determine if there was a significant improvement or not. The study found that identifying the main idea can be helpful in improving reading comprehension and motivation, as the students are better able to understand the plot. Overall, the study provided valuable insights into the use of specific strategies for enhancing reading skills in language learners.

Abstract

The guided discovery and guided discovery learning models make students more active and discover things during class learning. This research aims to find out how the guided discovery learning model and the guided discovery model differ on cognitive mathematics learning outcomes. This type of research is quantitative research using experimental methods. The sample in this study was the VA and VB classes at SD Xaverius 4 Palembang totaling 54 people through simple random sampling. Data collection techniques used in research are interviews, tests and documentation. The data analysis techniques used are validity test, reliability test, data normality test, homogeneity test, and independent sample t-test. The results of the research show that there are differences in cognitive learning outcomes using the guided discovery learning model and the guided discovery model on the cognitive mathematics learning outcomes of class V students at SD Xaverius 4 Palembang. The results of this research can be used in the world of education in terms of the use of learning models during the mathematics learning process
