Jurnal Dinamika Vokasional Teknik Mesin (JDVTM) is published by the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education, Faculty of Engineering, State University of Yogyakarta. The journal is published twice a year in April and October. Each publication contains articles comprising high quality theoretical and empirical original research papers, review papers, and literature reviews. The scope of study of this journal includes mechanical engineering education, technology and vocational education, learning and curriculum development, learning method development, and learning media. All of the fields study, particularly in mechanical engineering vocational and education. The articles submitted should be attended to the particular topics above.

Abstract

This research was aimed at developing economizer on aluminum crucible furnace to improve the furnace's performance. The research implements a Research and Development method. The economizer effects was determined from the performance test. The furnace were being tested with and without economizer at the same process condition. The developed furnace exhaust have the same diameter with the gas burner inlet. The exhaust was extended and curved to serve as an economizer. Aluminum of 11.78 kg can be melted with the economizer effects in 60 minutes, and only required 2.6 kg of LPG, whereas without economizer it required 3.1 kg LPG in 80 minutes for the same amounts of Aluminum. Penelitian ini bertujuan menambahkan economizer pada tungku pelebur aluminium untuk memperbaiki performa tungku. Metode Research and Development diterapkan untuk pengembangan tungku. Efek penggunaan economizer ditentukan dari uji kinerja. Tungku diuji coba tanpa dan dengan economizer pada kondisi proses yang sama. Saluran buang pada tungku berdiameter sama dengan saluran masuk. Saluran dibuat memanjang dan berbelok berfungsi sebagai economizer. Aluminium 11,78 kg dapat dicairkan memakai economizer dalam 60 menit dan membutuhkan 2,6 kg gas LPG, sedang tanpa economizer membutuhkan 3,1 kg gas LPG dan waktu 80 menit.

Abstract

This research aims to define a construct of CTL-based learning model on CAD subject. The learning model is intended for vocational high school students to improve their CAD competence. The research method being used was Research and Development methods implementing Dick and Carrie's approach. The research was carried out in Bantul and Kulonprogo district. The subject was SMK students underwent CAD subject learning. The result of the large-scale test shows that the CAD learning model is appropriate to be implemented in the CAD teaching and learning. The modul gained a strong positive response from the students in the functional and benefit aspects, with an average score of 24.42. The modul also gained a strong positive response from the attractiveness aspect with an average score of 37.73. Students also found that it is very appropriate in the learning material aspect, shown by an average score of 30.70. The CAD learning methods can be implemented by following the steps of defining Basic Competencies, subject materials and objects, motivating the students by assosiating the learning material with environmental context, determining heterogeneous group and administering task, group discussion, individual task, assessment, reflection and feedbacks. The CAD learning implementing the CTL-based modul evidently improves the students' achievement by 19%, from 71.18 to 84.64. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan konstruksi model pembelajaran berbasis CTL pada mata diklat CAD. Metode penelitian yang diterapkan adalah penelitian pengembangan dengan pendekatan Dick & Carie. Penelitian dilakukan di Bantul dan Wates, Kulon Progo. Subyek penelitian adalah siswa SMK yang menempuh mata diklat CAD. Hasil uji coba pada skala besar menunjukkan bahwa modul CAD layak untuk diterapkan dalam uji coba pembelajaran CAD. Modul mendapatkan kategori respons sangat layak dari siswa untuk: (a) aspek fungsi dan manfaat dengan skor rerata 24,42 , (b) aspek kemenarikan dengan skor rerata 37,73 , (c) aspek materi pembelajaran dengan skor rerata 30,70. Metode pembelajaran CAD ditempuh dengan urutan sebagai berikut: (1) menentukan KD, (2) menentukan materi, (3) menentukan benda/obyek, (4) memotivasi dengan mengaitkan materi ajar dengan konteks lingkungan, (5) penentuan kelompok heterogen, pemberian tugas, (6) diskusi kelompok, (7) tugas mandiri, (8) penilaian, (9) refleksi hasil dan umpan balik. Pembelajaran CAD menggunakan modul berbasis CTL dapat meningkatkan prestasi sebesar 19%, atau dari 71.18, menjadi 84.64.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to: (1) develop an assessment for learning (AFL), and (2) verify the effectiveness of the AFL through lesson study approach on machining practice in SMK. The research was a research and development with Borg & Gall's modified R&D model which comprised of 3 phase: development, small scale test, and large scale test. The research subjects were the students and teachers of machining program at SMK 2 Depok Sleman. Data were collected through interviews, documentation, questionnaire, notes, observation sheet, assessment sheet, and students' response. The descriptive analysis technique was used to analyze the data using rating methods. Results of the research show: (1) an assessment for learning through lesson study approach was successfully developed which consists of the assessment process and the product. Results of the assessment informs about students' processes in practice learning, product quality and overall practice results to determine students' achievement and also serves as formative feedback; (2) the effectiveness of the assessment, which was reviewed for eligibility, was categorized as "very good", whereas from the reliability it was in "good" category. The effectiveness was rated "very good" for its reliability. The implementation was in "good" category with 76.58% implementation and students' response were good. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) pengembangan perangkat assessment for learning, (2) menguji keefektifan perangkat assessmen for learning melalui pendekatan lesson study pada pembelajaran praktik pemesinan. Penelitian pengembangan ini menggunakan modifikasi model Borg & Gall yang terbagi menjadi 3 tahap yaitu: pengembangan, tahap ujicoba terbatas, dan tahap ujicoba diperluas. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa dan guru teknik pemesinan SMK Negeri 2 Depok Sleman. Pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, dokumentasi, angket kuesioner, catatan lapangan, lembar pengamatan, lembar penilaian produk serta respon siswa. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif dengan metode rating. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) perangkat penilaian assessment for learning melalui pendekatan lesson study berhasil dikembangkan berupa perangkat penilaian proses dan produk. Informasi hasil penilaian yaitu informasi akurat proses kerja siswa, kualitas produk serta hasil keseluruhan penilaian praktik untuk mengetahui capaian belajar siswa dan sebagai formatif feedback; (2) efektifitas perangkat ditinjau dari keberfungsian mempunyai hasil penilaian "sangat baik" dan untuk reliabilitas "baik". Keefektifan perangkat masuk kategori "sangat baik" ditinjau dari hasil penilaian dan reliabilitasnya. Tingkat keterlaksanakan masuk kategori "baik" dengan persentase keterlaksanaan 76,58% dengan respon baik dari siswa.

Abstract

This study aimed to quantitatively describe the variables of certification's impact, teachers' workability, work motivation, work commitment, and teacher performance on Vocational High School (SMK) teachers after the teacher certification program is implemented. This study uses quantitative methods to obtain measurable data that is descriptive, comparative and associative and to answer the problem formulation and research questions. The descriptive analysis of a portion of the research data resulted in research findings which show: (1) The impact of SMK teachers certification, which were developed from the pride, professionalism, and welfare aspects; obtain information that 34% are categorized as very good, 58% are in good category, 6% are in moderate category and 2% are in poor category, (2) the teachers' workability which were developed from the aspects of pedagogical competence, professionalism, personality and social, obtain information that 32% are categorized as very good, 60% are good, 6% are moderate and 2% are in poor category, (3) teachers' work motivation which were indicated from the aspects of needs of achievement, existence and power, affiliation, self-actualization and independence, and growth expectations, obtained information that 24% are categorized as very good, 60% are in good category, and 16% are in moderate category, (4) work commitment of teachers which were developed from the aspects of affective commitment, continuity and normative, obtained findings that 26% are in very good category, 64% are good, and 10% are in moderate category, (5) the performance of SMK teachers which were developed from the aspects of fulfillment of the main duties, implementation of duties other than the main duties, and professional development, obtained information that 20% are categorized as very good, 64% are in good category, and 16% are in moderate category. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan secara kuantitatif variabel dampak sertifikasi, kemampuan kerja guru, motivasi kerja guru, komitmen kerja guru, dan kinerja guru SMK setelah mengikuti program sertifikasi guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif untuk memperoleh data terukur yang bersifat deskriptif, komparatif dan asosiatif. Hasil analisis secara deskriptif sebagian data hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Dampak sertifikasi guru SMK yang dikembangkan dari aspek kebanggaan, keprofesionalan dan kesejahteraan diperoleh informasi sebesar 34% termasuk kategori amat baik, 58% termasuk kategori baik, (2) kemampuan kerja guru yang dikembangkan dari aspek kompetensi pedagogis, professional, kepribadian dan sosial diperoleh informasi sebesar 32% termasuk kategori amat baik, 60% kategori baik, (3) motivasi kerja guru yang diindikasikan dari aspek kebutuhan berprestasi, eksistensi dan berkuasa, berafiliasi, aktualisasi dan kemandirian, dan harapan pertumbuhan diperoleh informasi sebesar 24% termasuk kategori amat baik, 60% termasuk kategori baik, (4) komitmen kerja guru yang dikembangkan dari aspek komitmen afektif, kontinuitas dan normatif diperoleh temuan sebesar 26% termasuk aktegori amat baik, 64% termasuk kategori baik, (5) kinerja guru SMK yang dikembangkan dari aspek pelaksanaan tugas pokok, pelaksanaan tugas di luar tugas pokok dan pengembangan keprofesionalan diperoleh informasi sebesar 20% termasuk kategori amat baik, 64% termasuk kategori baik.

Abstract

The implementation of practice-work learning need to be evaluated periodically to determine wether the equipments and the learning methods are appropriate to the main purpose of learning, which is the establishment of learners' competency. The evaluation process in this research was carried out by adopting the CIPP evaluation methods. The research objects are lecturers and students participating in the Material Forming Practice course. Data were collected using documentation, observation and questionnaires and were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results show that the implementation of Material Forming Practice course in the half semester of academic year 2016/2017 was very successful. Barriers faced by the lecturers were the lack of students' comprehension in flat pattern drawing, mathematical analysis skills, lack of motivation in reading jobsheet, and the lack of students' adaptation to the practice environment. Barriers faced by the students came from the lecturers, workpiece materials, low category workshop conditions, the shop equipments are in moderate category, whereas jobsheets and technicians are in the very low category. The condition of the equipments in terms of quantity is sufficient, but in terms of quality, many still needs repairs and renewals. The students' learning achiements in the midterm semester was the ability to finish 4 jobs with marks as follow: 53% were graded "A", 35% were graded "B"and the remaining 12% were graded "C". Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesesuaian peralatan dan pelaksanaan pembelajaran dengan tujuan akhir pembelajaran yaitu pembentukan kompetensi mahasiswa. Metode yang digunakan mengadopsi metode evaluasi CIPP. Objek penelitian adalah dosen pengampu dan mahasiswa peserta mata kuliah praktik Pembentukan Bahan tahun ajaran 2016/2017. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan dokumentasi, observasi, dan angket. Data dianalisis dengan teknik analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelaksanaan praktik Pembentukan Bahan selama setengah semester terlaksana dengan sangat baik. Hambatan yang dialami dosen yaitu kurangnya kemampuan mahasiswa dalam memahami gambar bentangan, analisis matematika, adaptasi dengan lingkungan praktik, dan malas membaca jobsheet. Hambatan mahasiswa dari dosen, bahan, dan kondisi bengkel termasuk kategori rendah, alat termasuk kategori sedang, jobsheet dan teknisi termasuk kategori rendah sekali. Kondisi peralatan secara kuantitas mencukupi, tetapi kualitasnya perlu perbaikan dan peremajaan. Pada pertengahan semester mahasiswa mampu menyelesaikan 4 materi pekerjaan dengan perolehan nilai A sebanyak 53%, nilai B sebanyak 35% dan nilai C sebanyak 12%.

Abstract

This research aimed to design and assess the feasibility of Adobe Flash aided learning media for CNC Turning subject, specifically for the coordinate system topic. The research was a research and development study using the Four-D models of development. Four-D model consists of 4 steps, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. The instrument being used on this research was closed questionnaires with 4 choices Likert scale. The questionnaires were validated by expert evaluation. Data were collected from the 32 respondents. Data, which were quantitative and qualitative, were analyzed using descriptive analysis technique. The result shows that the learning media meets the teachers' and students' needs and expectation. For the feasibility level, the contents expert gave an average score of 3.37 which can be categorized as "very good". The expert in media gave an average score of 3.45 which is in the "very good" category. The Teacher of the respective subject gave an average score of 3.38 and is categorized as "very good". Students respond well with a score of 3.47 were given, which can be categorized as "very good". Tujuan penelitian ini adalah merancang media pembelajaran berbantuan adobe flash untuk mata pelajaran CNC Turning dengan sistem koordinat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan dengan model pengembangan Four-D Models yang terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu define, design, develop, dan disseminate. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa angket dengan skala Likert 4 pilihan jawaban. Angket divalidasi oleh ahli evaluasi. Pengambilan data dilakukan kepada 32 responden. Data kualitatif dan kuantitatif yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran yang dikembangkan telah disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan dan tuntutan dari guru dan siswa. Tingkat kelayakan media pembelajaran menurut ahli materi mendapatkan rerata nilai sebesar 3,37 dengan kategori "sangat baik". Hasil validasi ahli media memperoleh rerata nilai sebesar 3,45 dengan kategori "sangat baik". Hasil validasi guru pengampu memperoleh rerata nilai sebesar 3,38 dengan kategori "sangat baik". Berdasarkan penilaian respon siswa diperoleh rerata sebesar 3,47 dengan kategori "sangat baik".

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of psychological factors of students, composed of self-understanding, information literacy, and attitudes, to the choice of entering mechanical engineering study program in Vocational High Schools (VHSs) by Junior High School graduates. The research is a correlational ex post facto study. The population was 1095 students and the sample was 300 students which was sampled using proportional random sampling technique using the Krejcie and Morgan formula. The data were collected through inventories, observation sheets, and documents. The content validity was assessed through expert judgment. The construct validity was assessed using the factor analysis and the reliability using the Cronbach's Alpha formula. The data were analysed using descriptive analysis, regression analysis, and path analysis at a significance level of 0.05. The results show that: (1) There are positive and significant effects of information literacy, self-understanding and attitudes to the choice of mechanical engineering study program in VHSs; (2) Psychological factors, such as information literacy, self-understanding and attitudes, have significant effects, either directly or indirectly, to the choice of mechanical engineering study program in VHSs by Junior High Schools graduates. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh faktor psikologis siswa yang terdiri dari aspek pemahaman diri, penguasaan informasi, dan sikap terhadap pemilihan program keahlian teknik mesin di SMK oleh para lulusan siswa SMP/MTs. Penelitian yang dilakukan merupakan penelitian korelasional dan bersifat ex-post facto. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 1095 orang siswa. Jumlah sampel penelitian sebanyak 300 siswa ditentukan dengan formula Krejcie dan Morgan. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik proportional random sampling. Data dikumpulkan dengan inventori, lembar pengamatan dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Ada pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan penguasaan informasi, pemahaman diri, dan sikap siswa terhadap pemilihan program keahlian teknik mesin di SMK; (2) Faktor psikologis berupa penguasaan informasi, pemahaman diri dan sikap siswa memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung dalam menentukan pemilihan program keahlian teknik mesin di SMK bagi siswa lulusan SMP/MTs

Abstract

This study aims to determine the geometric quality of lathe machining product and what causes the low geometric quality of the lathe machining practices. This research is a descriptive study using a quantitative approach. Data were obtained by documentation and direct observation of the studied object, and then were processed using descriptive statistical analysis. Results show that the average value of the geometric quality of lathe machining products was relatively low, amounted to 67.14. The aspects that caused deficiencies and low geometric quality are, among others, incorrect spindle speed, incorrect feeds, incorrect depth of cuts, improper use of measuring tools, and lack of awareness ofthe Occupational Safety and Health equipment.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas geometris produk hasil praktik pemesinan bubut dan penyebab rendahnya kualitas geometris hasil praktik pemesinan bubut. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan menggunakan dokumentasi dan pengamatan langsung pada obyek yang diteliti kemudian diolah menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata – rata nilai kualitas geometris hasil praktik pemesinan bubut siswa tergolong rendah yakni sebesar 67,14 serta aspek-aspek yang menjadi penyebab kekurangan dan kelemahan kualitas geometris diantaranya meliputi, kesalahan dalam menentukan putaran mesin, kesalahan dalam menentukan kecepatan gerak pemakanan, tidak tepatnya pengaturan kedalaman pemakanan, kesalahan dalam menggunakan alat ukur serta kurangnya kesadaran akan pentingnya penggunaan perlengkapan K3.

Abstract

This article presents the application of aluminum casting foundry practice equipment in SMK N 1 Magelang and the evaluation of the learning achievement. The research methods being used was quasi-experiment with Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population of this research was all of the 126 X grade students of Machining department. The sampling using the incidental sampling methods resulting in the choice of MC and MA class, each having 31 students as samples. MC class was selected as a control group and MA was class selected as the treatment group. Data collection was carried out using observation and test and then analyzed using Sign Test. The experiment resulted in 30 students of the treatment group passed the minimum mastery criteria (score 75), while for the control group it is only 10 students. The learning achievements of the treatment group in average was 82.78 which is higher than the control group with an average of 72.43. The increase in the average learning achievements for the treatment group is 37 % while for the control group is 25 %. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan prestasi belajar siswa yang menggunakan perangkat praktik pengecoran aluminium pada mata pelajaran Teknologi Mekanik di SMK. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas X Teknik Pemesinan SMK Negeri 1 Magelang yang berjumlah 126 siswa. Kelas X MC dan X MA dengan masing-masing 31 siswa dipilih menjadi sampel dengan metode sampling insidental. Kelas X MC dipilih sebagai kelompok kontrol dan kelas X MA dipilih sebagai kelompok perlakuan. Data dikumpulkan dengan observasi dan tes, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji tanda. Setelah diberikan tindakan diketahui bahwa siswa yang mencapai KKM (75) pada kelompok perlakuan sebanyak 30 siswa, sedangkan pada kelompok kontrol hanya 10 siswa. Rata-rata prestasi belajar kelompok perlakuan adalah 82,78 sedangkan kelompok kontrol 72,43. Peningkatan rata-rata prestasi belajar kelompok perlakuan mencapai 37% sedangkan kelompok kontrol 25%.

Abstract

This research was aimed at developing economizer on aluminium crucible furnace to improve its performance. Research and Development method was implement. The economizer effects was determined from the performance test. Furnace tested without and with economizer at the same process condition. The furnace exhaust developed has same diameter with the gas burner inlet. The exhaust was extended and deflected serves as an economizer. Aluminum of 11.78 kg can be melted with an economizer in 60 minutes and requires 2.6 kg LPG, while without economizer it was require 3.1 kg LPG and 80 minutes.
