Abstract

This research explores the application of gender equality principles within Child-Friendly Schools (CFS), specifically at Harapan Mandiri High School in Medan, through the lens of biological homeostasis principles applied to social mechanisms. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, this study draws on primary data collected from guidance counseling teachers at the school, using observation and in-depth interviews as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that Harapan Mandiri High School effectively implements gender equality by ensuring equal access, opportunities, treatment, and participation for both male and female students. The fairness in treatment is evident in assessments, rewards, and discipline, while student engagement is fostered through participation in student organizations and extracurricular activities. The school’s focus on preventing discrimination and promoting gender awareness contributes to a safe and inclusive learning environment, enhancing respect for gender diversity. This successful implementation of gender equality principles reflects the school’s commitment to creating a balanced and inclusive educational environment, akin to maintaining homeostasis in biological systems, where equilibrium is achieved through equitable participation and treatment of all students.

Abstract

Breastfeeding issues arise when mothers cannot produce enough milk to meet their babies' nutritional needs. This study aims to assess the effect of complementary therapies, such as consuming moringa leaves, katuk leaves, soy milk, spinach, young papaya, and using lavender aromatherapy, on increasing breast milk production. The quasi-experimental study involved postpartum mothers on day 4, using a pre-test and post-test design with six variables. Results showed that 83.9% of 56 mothers who consumed moringa leaves, 84.5% of 58 mothers who drank soy milk, 81.3% of 48 mothers who ate katuk leaves, 86.4% of 44 mothers who consumed spinach, 82.7% of 52 mothers who ate young papaya, and 83.3% of 30 mothers who used lavender aromatherapy experienced sufficient breast milk production. These findings demonstrate that all six therapies positively influence breast milk production. It is recommended that healthcare providers routinely offer these complementary therapies to postpartum mothers to support exclusive breastfeeding for their babies.

Abstract

Menstrual pain is a common issue among adolescent girls, often disrupting their daily activities. To address dysmenorrhea, one effective approach is the use of dysmenorrhea exercises and deep breathing relaxation techniques. This study investigates the effectiveness of these methods in reducing menstrual pain among adolescent girls in Indonesia. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest with control group, the research sampled 210 adolescent girls experiencing menstrual pain, selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected via observation sheets and analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent t-tests. The findings show that before the dysmenorrhea exercises, most participants experienced moderate pain (63.80%), which decreased to mild pain (74.30%) afterward. Similarly, before the deep breathing technique, most participants had moderate pain (76.20%), which reduced to mild pain (58.10%) post-intervention. Both dysmenorrhea exercises (p-value 0.000) and deep breathing techniques (p-value 0.000) were effective in reducing pain, but dysmenorrhea exercises proved more effective. Adolescent girls are encouraged to regularly perform dysmenorrhea exercises and deep breathing techniques for 30 minutes daily during the week leading up to menstruation to manage menstrual pain effectively.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is crucial for the health and development of babies, reducing the risk of diseases such as respiratory infections, diarrhea, malnutrition, and even death. This study aims to evaluate the impact of social and biological factors on the success of exclusive breastfeeding and weight gain in babies in Jakarta and Banten. Using an analytical observational design with a case-control approach, 60 babies were involved (30 exclusively breastfed, 30 not). Chi-square analysis revealed significant influences on exclusive breastfeeding success from family knowledge (p=0.020), breastfeeding beliefs/culture in Jakarta (p=0.009), maternal nutrition (p=0.000), breastfeeding patterns (p=0.018), family support (p=0.000), and baby weight gain (p=0.000). However, beliefs/culture in Lebak Banten (p=0.429) and West Java (p=0.605) had no significant effect. These results highlight the importance of family support, proper maternal nutrition, and effective breastfeeding practices for exclusive breastfeeding success. Exclusive breastfeeding ensures optimal nutrition, boosts immunity, supports cognitive development, and lowers the risk of infant mortality and health complications.
