Abstract

The rapid advancement of educational technology, particularly in vocational education, has opened new opportunities to address learning challenges in complex technical subjects. This study aims to analyze the needs and design Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media for the Digital Electronics subject using the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model. The AR media is designed to assist students in understanding abstract and complex concepts in Digital Electronics, such as logic circuits and digital systems, in an interactive and visual manner. The research method employed is Research and Development (R&D) following the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Needs analysis results indicate that students face difficulties in understanding digital electronics concepts without additional visualization. Furthermore, both teachers and students expressed high interest in using AR technology to support a more effective and engaging learning process. PjBL-based AR media is expected to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and practical skills in Digital Electronics, as well as provide a deeper learning experience through applicative projects. By demonstrating this synergy between AR and PjBL, the study establishes a foundation for integrating immersive technologies into science and technology education, thereby enriching conceptual understanding while cultivating critical thinking, creativity, and other essential 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to identify various challenges encountered in implementing STEM education, as well as to describe the problems faced by several countries in implementing STEM education. To achieve the objectives of this study, the researcher conducted a literature review related to STEM education and learning, especially by conducting a Systematic Literature Review (SRL) study. This article is an SLR conducted by accessing the Scopus and Google Scholar databases as sources of information. Scopus and Google Scholar database exploration by entering the keywords "challenge" + "STEM education". The search results were exported in *CSV format (to facilitate the simulation process) and *RIS for synchronization with Mendeley. The selected articles are in the 2017-2024 period. The results of the study indicate that the challenges faced are mostly intrinsic challenges, namely the difficulty of teachers in managing learning time, as well as the lack of teachers in the STEM field who have adequate certification. Other problems were also encountered, such as the unavailability of supporting facilities for STEM education, and the lack of support from education administrators and stakeholders, which are challenges that must be considered in realizing STEM education.

Abstract

This meta-analysis investigates the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills in science education. A total of 42 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2024 were analyzed, covering diverse educational levels and scientific disciplines. The analysis revealed a large average effect size (ES = 0.798; 95% CI: 0.782–0.813), indicating a strong positive impact of PBL. The low standard error (SE = 0.043–0.060) reflects high estimation precision. Statistical tests, including funnel plot symmetry, Trim-and-Fill analysis (p = 0.991), and Egger’s regression test (p = 0.947), confirm the absence of significant publication bias. Moreover, residual heterogeneity was minimal (τ² = 0.000), validating the appropriateness of the fixed-effects model. These findings provide robust empirical evidence that PBL is consistently effective across various contexts in improving students’ 21st-century competencies. The study offers meaningful implications for educators and policymakers in designing science learning strategies that foster higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

Flavonoids are polyphenolic secondary metabolites with various biological activities, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. This study aimed to determine the total flavonoid content in Tinospora crispa (brotowali) stem extract using the AlCl₃ colorimetric method and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The brotowali stems were extracted using a decoction method with distilled water as the solvent. The formation of a yellow complex between flavonoids and AlCl₃ was measured at a wavelength of 435 nm using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. A standard calibration curve was prepared using quercetin as the reference compound. The absorbance values of the sample were compared against the quercetin standard curve to determine the flavonoid concentration, expressed as mg quercetin equivalent (QE) per 100 g of extract. The total flavonoid content in the brotowali extract was found to be approximately 0.40%, indicating a moderate level of flavonoids relative to similar medicinal plants. These results suggest that Tinospora crispa stems may serve as a potential source of natural flavonoids with therapeutic applications.

Abstract

Ant diversity (Formicede) plays an important role in the ecosystem, especially as an environmental indicator. This study aims to identify the diversity of ant species in the Bumi Camping area, Malang Regency, East Java, and to evaluate the factors that influence it. Ants have evolved into insects that are easily found in terrestrial ecosystems. Of the total number of insect species in the world, approximately 12.000 of them are ants, most of which are spread across tropical areas Data collection was carried out at six points around the musholla area using two trap methods, namely bait traps and fill traps. The ants caught were collected and identified using a stereo microscope, determination keys, and supporting applications. The study found 9 different ant species, including Paratrechina longicornis. Camponatus atriceps, and Monomorium pharaonis. The diversity of ant species is influenced by environmental factors such as altitude, humidity, and food availability. The results showed that the study area had a low diversity index value, possibly due to antibiotic factors and land conversion. This study contributes to the understanding of ant diversity in tropical areas and the importance of ant habitat conservation in forest ecosystems.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is one of the high-value aquaculture commodities in the global market, known for its excellent adaptability to various environmental conditions, rapid growth, and high survival rates. This study aims to compare water conditions and the growth performance of vannamei shrimp under three different pond management systems: supra-intensive, intensive, and traditional. The analysis was conducted by measuring water quality parameters such as temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, and nitrate concentrations. Growth performance was evaluated through observations of Average Daily Gain (ADG) and Mean Body Weight (MBW). At 50 days of cultivation, the supraintensive system produced an average body weight of 11.85 grams with a daily growth rate of 0.2219 grams/shrimp/day. The intensive system resulted in slightly lower growth, with an average body weight of 8.6 grams and a daily growth rate of 0.1547 grams/shrimp/day. The traditional system showed the lowest growth performance, with an average weight of 6.66 grams and an ADG of 0.0265 grams/shrimp/day. The different pond management systems influence the dynamic risks of water quality changes based on input loads from feed waste and feces. The traditional system exhibits a slower rate of water quality changes compared to the intensive and supraintensive systems.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and evaluate a sustainable model, as well as assess the sustainability of whiteleg shrimp farming in Parigi Moutong Regency. The assessment of sustainability will be conducted using the Rapfish approach, which includes five dimensions that are customized to the specific research area to provide an accurate representation of the present state. The results of the study indicate that whiteleg shrimp farming in Parigi Moutong Regency has a satisfactory and stable level of sustainability, indicated by an overall index value of > 50% through the Rapfish approach. In order to address the challenges in managing white shrimp resources, such as coastal habitat destruction, overfishing, and lack of coordination among institutions, the government of Parigi Moutong Regency needs to establish integrated and coordinated cooperation with stakeholders.

Abstract

Microtremor analysis was conducted in southern Surabaya, East Java, to evaluate the seismic response of buildings using the Floor Spectral Ratio (FSR) and Random Decrement Method (RDM). Two buildings—a 9-story structure (Building A) and a 10-story structure (Building B)—were analyzed to assess their dynamic behavior and vulnerability to earthquake-induced shaking. As high-rise building development continues in Surabaya, such assessments are critical for enhancing structural safety. The FSR method provided estimates of natural frequency, amplification, and vulnerability index, while the RDM method determined the damping ratio and validated the natural frequency results. The findings show that the average natural frequency of Building A is 1.18 Hz (North-South) and 1.24 Hz (East-West), while Building B has 1.18 Hz and 1.17 Hz, respectively. Damping ratios ranged from 1 to 4% for Building A and 1 to 6% for Building B, both below the 10% critical threshold. The increasing vulnerability index with height indicates greater susceptibility to seismic amplification at upper floors. These findings confirm that both buildings meet the structural standards for multi-story building, reinforcing the importance of dynamic evaluation in earthquake-prone urban areas.

Abstract

Based on the results of pre-research conducted at SD Negeri Semper Barat 03 Pagi, there are problems found in the lack of interesting, IT-based learning media and the low learning outcomes of students in IPAS subjects. This study aims to develop interactive multimedia ‘menturi’ based on autoplay by innovating by adding handouts at the end of learning material, testing the feasibility of interactive multimedia ‘menturi’ based on autoplay in IPAS learning to improve student learning outcomes, and knowing the effectiveness of using interactive multimedia ‘menturi’ based on autoplay in improving student learning outcomes. This research uses the Borg and Gall development model with only 8 stages. The sample of this research consisted of 31 students of class IV-C SD Negeri Semper Barat 03 Pagi Jakarta. The results showed that; autoplay-based ‘menturi’ interactive multimedia is feasible and effective for use in IPAS learning. It can be seen that the results of validity by material expert validators get a percentage of 93% with very feasible criteria, and media experts get a presentation of 83% with very feasible criteria; The effectiveness of the product can be seen from the results of student responses including small group trials and large group trials with pretest results in small group trials getting an average of 72 and post-test 86, and in large group trials getting an average pretest score of 70 and post-test 80. In the small group trial, the n-gain value was 0.53 with a moderate category, while in the large group trial, the n-gain value was 0.41 with a moderate category. Thus, the results showed that the interactive multimedia ‘menturi’ based on autoplay with the innovation of a handout at the end of the learning material is feasible and effective for use in IPAS learning to improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out about the acute toxicity test and analysis of its activity on lancing leaves. This research method is an experimental method including sampling and sample processing, extract making, acute toxicity tests, research on toxic symptoms in animals, organ harvesting, organ weighing, organ histopathology examination and data analysis with Statistical Program Service Solution (SPSS).  The research was conducted at the Integrated Development and Research Laboratory of Andalas University from September 2024 to December 2024. The tools used in this study are Rotary evaporator (Buchi R-210 Rotavapor), separation funnel, oven (Memmert), furnace, analytical scale (SF-400), decigator, mortar and pestle, porcelain cruce, Moisture Analyzer, Hot plate, Uv-Visible lamp (Camag), dark bottle, funnel, infusion bottle (500 ml and 100 ml), glass beaker (Pyrex), drip plate, rack and test tube, measuring cup (Pyrex), measuring flask,  spatels, stirring rods, droppers, ointment pots, object glass, KLT chambers, capillary pipes, syringes, sondes, animal cages, animal feeding and drinking places. The animals that will be used in this study are healthy male white rats aged 2-3 months with a body weight of 200-300 g and have never been used for experiments as many as 25 animalsAn LD50 value was obtained with a mild toxic value (>2000 mg/KgBB – 5000 mg/KgBB) against the acute toxicity test of lancing leaf extract (Solanum Mauritianum Scop.) in male rats. There was no significant difference between groups (p>0.05) in the body and BOR of male rats compared to the control group after administration of lancing leaf extract (Solanum Mauritianum Scop.).
