Abstract

Breeding kara benguk with mutation induction techniques using gamma ray radiation is expected to produce genetic diversity. The purpose of the study is to determine the value of Lethal Dose 50 (LD50) and obtain the genetic diversity of the kara benguk plant. The research was conducted at PAIR BATAN and Agrotechnology experiment, Universitas Labuhanbatu from May-July 2020. The planting material used was kara benguk seeds. The method used was Randomized Complete Group Design (RCGD) with one factor which was dose of irradiation with six levels (0, 200, 250, 300, 350 and 400 Gy) and three replications. Each replication consisted of 20 plants, so there are a total of 360 experimental plants. The results showed that the value of LD50 kara benguk in 3 weeks after planting was 281,472 Gy. Gamma ray irradiation increases the high genetic diversity of plants and the number of leaves at a dose of 350 Gy.

Abstract

Patchouli Aceh Lhokseumawe is a patchouli that has a high oil content.  However, the Lhokseumawe species have narrow plant genetic variation due to vegetative propagation. This study aims to analysis broad genetic variability and phenotypes, correlation between growth character and strong yield character to help selection in plant breeding.  The research was conducted at experimental field of the Politeknik Negeri Lampung in April until October 2018.  The research used Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 10 genotype and 3 replications.  Analysis of the data used is ANOVA, if significantly different followed by the LSI 5%, then using variability genotype and phenotype and t test. The result showed that NPL 1 had a better appearance than the Lhokseumawe (local) genotype in the LSI 5%.  Extensive genotype variability was found ini g/plant dry weight character and ton/ha dry terna production, broad phenotype variability was found in all observed characters.  High heritability is found in the characters of stem diameter, wet weight, dry weight, and production of dry ton/ha. Significantly positive phenotypic correlations that have high oil yield are characterized by the characteristics of dry weight, ton/ha dry cattle production, wet weight, and harvest index. Positive genotypic correlations were evident between growth and yield characters, namely the oil yield with leaf length, and leaf width.

Abstract

As a natural mineral that contains several macro elements, polyhalite (K2Ca2Mg (SO4) 4H2O) has good potential as a fertilizer. This study aims to study the effect of polyhalite on branch growth, leaf nutrition (K, Mg and S), chlorophyll index, harvest weight, fruit quality, and the effective dose of Siam citrus. A 4-year-old Siam citrus planted on vertisol soil was treated with 6 fertilizer treatments: 625; 1,000; 1,375; 1,750; 2.125 kg polyhalite and 625 kg ZK/hectare/year. The experiment using a randomized block design was repeated 3 times. The results showed thatthe application of polyhalite at the same K2O dose as ZK increased leaf Mg content, chlorophyll index and total juicesolids significantly. Polyhalite application of 1,750 kg/hectare (2.8 kg/tree) is an effective dose for mature Siam citrus in vertisol with moderate K status and high Ca and Mg status.

Abstract

Green beans are legume plants that are in great demand because of their high nutrition content and include plants that require boron to support growth from the vegetative to generative phase. The study aims to assess the growth and production of green beans due to influence of the dose and time of boron application. The research was carried out using completely randomized design with factorial pattern 3×3 with 3 replications. The first factor was the treatment of boron doses of 1, 1.5, and 2 kg/ha was given once at 7 Day After Planting (DAP), fertilizer application twice at 7 and 28 DAP, and once given at 28 DAP. The results showed that dose of boron at a dose of 1 kg/ha was able to produce the number of affective root nodules and the best pod weight. The treatment of boron once at 7 DAP can increase plant height, flowering age, pod weight, and seed weight per pod. The interaction between dose and time of boron application affects the number of affective root nodules and seed weight per pod.

Abstract

Sandy soil is very difficult to remain the water and nutrients so that leaching often occurs before nutrients absorbed by the roots. It can be happen because sandy soil has many macro pores in the soil. This research was aimed to study the effect of biochar and cow manure fertilizer for growth and products of Brassica rapa L. plants on sandy soil. The method used was factorial completely randomized design with 2 factors. This first factor was type of biochar (paddy husk biochar and corn cobs biochar) and the second factor was dosage of cow manure fertilizer (5 tons/ha, 10 tons/ha, 15 tons/ha, 20 tons/ha, 25 tons/ha). The result showed that the application of cow manure fertilizer had significant effected on bulk density and soil porosity. The interaction between the type of biochar and dosage of cow manure fertilizer had significant effect on ground water content. The application of biochar and high doses of cow manure fertilizer resulted in increased ground water content on sandy soil.  The type of biochar and dosage of cow manure fertilizer had no significant effect on the nitrogen uptake, plant height, number of leaves, and crown fresh weight.
