INSANCITA: Journal of Islamic Studies in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. This journal, with ISSN 2443-2776, was firstly published on February 5, 2016, in the context to commemorate the anniversary of HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam or Association of Islamic College’s Students) in Indonesia. The INSANCITA journal has been organized by the Alumni of HMI who work as Lecturers at the HEIs (Higher Education Istitutions) in Indonesia, since issue of February 2016 to date; and published by Minda Masagi Press, a publishing house owned by ASPENSI (the Association of Indonesian Scholars of History Education) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia; and BRIMAN (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia Academic Network) Institute in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, since issue of February 2018 to date. The articles published in INSANCITA journal are able to be written in English as well as in Indonesian and Malay languages. The INSANCITA journal is published every February and August. The INSANCITA journal is devoted, but not limited to, Islamic studies and any new development and advancement in the field of Islamic society. The scope of our journal includes: (1) Language and Literature in Islam; (2) Social Science and Humanities in Islam; (3) History and Philosophy of Education in Islam; (4) Economy and Business in Islam; (5) Science, Technology and Society in Islam; (6) Political, Cultural and Social Engineering in Islam; and (7) Visual Arts, Dance, Music, and Design in Islam.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Sufism is no doubt an Islamic way of life to enjoy the blessings of God, which involves vigorous meditation and prayers as well as emphasis on “inner-self” rather than external rituals. This paper, by applying the historical method and qualitative study, is intended to analyse the ideology of Sufism and side by side the nature of their activities so as to avoid conflict in the human society as a whole and obviously among the Muslims. The findings show that Islamic mysticism is not separated from Islam and, at the same time, Prophet Muhammad SAW (Salallahu Alaihi Wassalam or peace be upon him) is considered in high esteem in its ideals. The teachings of the Sufi saints are still relevant today, because it invites and elaborates spiritual unity of humanity and above all intra-religious and inter-religious understanding in order to minimize conflict between various creeds and faith holders of India. It is a fact that India is famous for her composite cultural tradition and in the atmosphere of multi-religious as well as multi-lingual society, an idea of mutual co-existence is essential and a vital role was played by the Sufi saints at a moment, when Islam came to India as a new religion and way of life. Love of God in the form of developing a mind to love His creatures became an important theme of common concern of the mystic saints, who came to India and settled in this country in a historical moment. They taught and appealed to the people at large that the Divine discloses itself in the human races as a whole and, thus, they propounded to all the philosophy of love and cordial relationship among human being; and, thereby, to provide means for the betterment of humanity and also to enjoy His blessings.KEY WORD: Islamic Mysticism; Intellectual Currents; Inner-Self; Islamic Humanism; Greater India. ABSTRAKSI: “Humanisasi Unsur-unsur Sufisme di India”. Tasawuf tidak diragukan lagi merupakan cara hidup Islami untuk menikmati berkah Tuhan, yang melibatkan meditasi dan doa penuh semangat serta penekanan pada “batin” daripada ritual eksternal. Makalah ini, dengan menerapkan metode historis dan studi kualitatif, dimaksudkan untuk menganalisis ideologi tasawuf dan berdampingan dengan sifat aktivitasnya sehingga dapat menghindari konflik dalam masyarakat manusia secara keseluruhan dan jelasnya di kalangan umat Islam. Temuan menunjukan bahwa mistisisme Islam tidak terpisahkan dari Islam dan, pada saat yang sama, Nabi Muhammad SAW (Salallahu Alaihi Wassalam) dianggap sangat terhormat dalam cita-citanya. Ajaran para Sufi masih relevan saat ini, karena mengundang dan menguraikan kesatuan spiritual umat manusia dan terutama pemahaman intra-agama dan antar-agama untuk meminimalkan konflik antara berbagai keyakinan dan kepercayaan di India. Ini adalah fakta bahwa India terkenal dengan tradisi budayanya yang komposit dan dalam suasana masyarakat multi-agama dan multi-bahasa, gagasan tentang hidup saling berdampingan adalah sangat esensial dan peran penting telah dimainkan oleh orang-orang suci, para Sufi, pada saat itu, ketika Islam datang ke India sebagai sebuah agama dan cara hidup yang baru. Cinta Tuhan dalam bentuk mengembangkan pikiran untuk mencintai ciptaan-Nya merupakan tema penting yang menjadi perhatian bersama orang-orang suci, para mistikus, yang datang ke India dan menetap di negara ini dalam momen yang bersejarah. Mereka mengajarkan dan memohon kepada orang-orang pada umumnya bahwa Tuhan mengungkapkan dirinya dalam ras manusia secara keseluruhan dan, karenanya, mereka mengemukakan bahwa semua filosofi cinta dan perlunya hubungan baik antara manusia; dan, dengan demikian, untuk menyediakan sarana bagi kemajuan kemanusiaan dan juga untuk menikmati berkah-Nya.KATA KUNCI: Mistisisme Islam; Arus Intelektual; Batin; Humanisme Islam; India Besar.About the Author: Professor Ichhimuddin Sarkar is a Lecturer at the Department of History, University of North Bengal, India. Abstract

Jurnal INSANCITA ini terbit dalam rangka menyambut Dies Natalis HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam) yang ke-69, yakni pada tanggal 5 Februari 2016. Jurnal ini terbit setiap bulan Februari dan Agustus. Tujuan penerbitan jurnal INSANCITA adalah untuk menampung dan mendiseminasikan hasil-hasil pemikiran dan penelitian yang cerdas dan bernas tentang Islam, tidak hanya di Indonesia, tetapi juga di kawasan Asia Tenggara, dan bahkan dunia. Setiap edisi, dalam Kata Pengantar, akan disajikan Profil Singkat para Ketua Umum PB (Pengurus Besar) HMI di Indonesia. Dalam edisi kali ini disajikan sosok Lafran Pane, untuk dikenang, sebagai tokoh penggagas dan pendiri HMI di Yogyakarta, pada tanggal 5 Februari 1947, dalam suasana revolusi kemerdekaan Indonesia.

Abstract

ABSTRAKSI: Ibadah dalam Islam mempunyai impak atau kesan yang mendalam dalam kehidupam Muslim, terutama dalam konteks hubungan makhluk dan Penciptanya. Dalam erti kata bahawa ibadah sholat, puasa, zakat, haji, serta ibadah lain lagi, yang dilakukan manusia, adalah untuk mendapat keredaan Allah SWT (Subhanahu Wa-Ta’ala). Dalam pada itu, penekanan bacaan dalam sholat sangat penting untuk membentuk insan yang soleh dan mampu memikul tanggungjawab sebagai khalifah Allah SWT. Sholat merupakan tiang agama dan sholat yang sempurna, iaitu merangkumi bacaan yang lancar dan sempurna, akan melahirkan generasi Islam yang lebih berkualiti. Kajian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengukuhkan tahap pembacaan dan hafazan “tahiyyat” dalam sohlat dengan baik dan lancar melalui kaedah “nasyid”. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah latih-tubi melalui bacaan “tahiyyat” responden dan ujian pos, iaitu selepas kaedah “nasyid” diperkenalkan. Seramai 27 orang responden Tahun 2 Sekolah Rendah telah dipilih sebagai subjek dalam kajian ini. Hasil daripada pemerhatian selepas kaedah “nasyid” diperkenalkan, terdapat peningkatan yang ketara terhadap penguasaan responden, iaitu sebanyak 52% telah berjaya membaca dan menghafaz “tahiyyat” dengan baik dan lancar. Keputusan ujian juga menunjukan bahawa kaedah “nasyid” mampu membantu responden untuk membaca serta menghafaz bacaan “tahiyyat” dalam sholat dengan baik dan lancar.KATA KUNCI: Pengajaran, kaedah nasyid, sholat, bacaan tahiyyat, kaedah pengajaran, latih-tubi, pelajar Sekolah Rendah, menghafaz bacaan, dan generasi belia Islam yang berkualiti.ABSTRACT: “Action Research in Improving the Tahiyyat Reading among Primary Schools Pupils Using Nasyid Method”. Worship in Islam has had a profound impact or effect of living in the Muslim, particularly in the context of relationship between the creature and his Creator. In the sense that praying, fasting, charity, pilgrimage, and other religious again, which humans do, is to get the blessing of Allah. Meanwhile, the emphasis of reading in prayer is essential to establish a righteous man and able to take responsibility as a Caliph of Allah. Prayer is the pillar of religion and perfect prayer, which includes reading smoothly, will create a generation of better quality. This study is aimed at strengthening the level of reading and memorizing “tahiyyat” in prayer smoothly through the “nasyid” method. This study using drill method towards respondents and posttest after “nasyid” methods introduced. A total of 27 respondents, pupils year 2 at Primary School have been chosen as the subjects in this study. The results of the observations indicated that after “nasyid” method was introduced, there was a significant increment towards respondents result, namely: 52% were successfully read and memorize “tahhiyat” well and smoothly. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Islam has, from its inception, placed a high premium on education and has enjoyed a long and rich intellectual tradition. The important of education is repeatedly emphasized in the Al-Qur’an, whether such knowledge is Islamic or Western education. Meanwhile, many people believed that Islam against Western education, because a significant number of people who are non-literate in Western education bear Muslim names. This paper, therefore, looks at the Islamic concept of education, its aims and objectives, history of Islamic education, and the contributions of early Muslims to the development of education. In Islamic educational theory, knowledge is gained in order to actualize and perfect all dimensions of the human being. From an Islamic perspective, the highest and most useful model of perfection is the Prophet Muhammad SAW (peace be upon him). In this context, its ultimate goal in education is the abode of permanence and all education points to the permanent world of eternity. The paper also traces the advent of Christianity/Western education that was dangerous for the Islamic education. Historically speaking, the West has borrowed a great deal of intellectual property from Arabs and Muslims in general. It also showed that the main purpose behind establishing Western Missionary schools was to plant poisonous seeds of polytheism and disbelief in the hearts of the Muslim children and deprive them of Islam, so that they might not remain as Muslims, even though they don’t embrace Christianity. Islam, sedari awal, menempatkan posisi yang tinggi pada pendidikan dan telah menikmati tradisi intelektual yang panjang dan kaya. Pentingnya pendidikan berulang kali ditekankan dalam Al-Quran, apakah pengetahuan tersebut berasal dari pendidikan Islam atau Barat. Sementara itu, banyak orang percaya bahwa Islam bertentangan dengan pendidikan Barat, karena sejumlah besar orang yang tidak terdidik secara Barat menanggung nama Muslim. Makalah ini, dengan demikian, melihat konsep Islam tentang pendidikan, maksud dan tujuannya, sejarah pendidikan Islam, dan kontribusi Muslim awal untuk pengembangan pendidikan. Dalam teori pendidikan Islam, pengetahuan yang diperoleh dalam rangka aktualisasi diri dan menyempurnakan semua dimensi kehidupan manusia. Dari perspektif Islam pula, model tertinggi dan paling berguna dalam kesempurnaan hidup adalah Nabi Muhammad SAW (Salallahu Alaihi Wassalam). Dalam konteks ini, tujuan utama dalam pendidikan adalah tempat tinggal permanen dan semua titik tuju pendidikan adalah dunia kehidupan yang abadi. Makalah ini juga menjejaki kedatangan agama Kristen/pendidikan Barat yang berbahaya bagi pendidikan Islam. Secara historis berbicara, Barat telah meminjam banyak dari kekayaan intelektual dari Arab dan umat Islam pada umumnya. Abstract

ABSTRAKSI: Artikel ini merupakan studi tentang performansi proses pembelajaran, kepribadian, visi, kemampuan, prestasi, dan penerimaan lingkungan yang dialami oleh tokoh-tokoh HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam) di Indonesia. Subjek penelitian ini adalah para tokoh HMI, yakni: Achmad Tirtosudiro, Ahmad Dahlan, Sulastomo, Nurcholish Madjid, dan Saleh Khalid, yang mewakili kepemimpinan generasi HMI dengan periode yang berbeda-beda. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan studi kasus dengan melakukan wawancara, kajian pustaka, dan observasi di lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa performansi kepemimpinan tokoh-tokoh HMI menampilkan gaya kepemimpinan yang berbeda antara satu dengan yang lainnya. Aktualitas performansi kepemimpinan ini dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal, yang terdiri dari aspek kepribadian, minat, dan motivasi; faktor eksternal, yang terdiri dari proses penyadaran dan pemberdayaan dalam lingkungan keluarga, persekolahan, luar sekolah, dan masyarakat; serta faktor dinamika sosial-politik bagi organisasi HMI, bangsa Indonesia, dan situasi hubungan antarbangsa di dunia. Penelitian merekomendasikan bahwa nilai potensi kepemimpinan kader-kader HMI harus benar-benar menjadi satu keterampilan hidup (life-skill) yang adaptif dan visibel bagi pengembangan diri, organisasi, dan pembangunan bangsa Indonesia.  KATA KUNCI: Pengembangan kepemimpinan, tokoh dan kader HMI, performansi, proses pembelajaran, kepribadian, visi, kemampuan, prestasi, penerimaan lingkungan, dan pembelajaran sepanjang hayat. ABSTRACT: “Leadership Development of HMI (Muslim Students Association)’s Figures in the Perspective of Lifelong Learning”. This article is a study of the performance of learning process, personality, vision, ability, achievement, and acceptance of the environment experienced by figures of HMI in Indonesia. The subjects of the study were leaders of HMI, namely: Achmad Tirtosudiro, Ahmad Dahlan, Sulastomo, Nurcholish Madjid, and Saleh Khalid, who represent the HMI generation leadership with different periods. This study used qualitative methods and case study by conducting interviews, literature review, and field observations. The results show that the leadership performance of HMI’s figures was featuring the different leadership styles from one to another. The leadership performance actuality is influenced by internal factors, which consist of the aspects of personality, interests, and motivations; external factors, which consists of the process of awareness and empowerment within the family, schooling, outside the school, and community; and factors of socio-political dynamics for HMI organization, Indonesian nation, and relations situation between the nations in the world. Abstract

ABSTRAKSI: Makalah ini, dengan mengguna-pakai kaedah kualitatif dan pendekatan sejarah, mencuba membicarakan tentang pemikiran historiografi atau pensejarahan Ibn Khaldun. Idea pensejarahan beliau yang didasari dengan penekanan perlunya ahli sejarah bersifat analitikal dan kritis, baik terhadap kandungan penulisan sejarah mahupun sumber sejarah. Sejarah yang lari daripada unsur-unsur kritis dianggap sebagai pensejarahan deskriptif, kerana sejarah kritis mempunyai ciri-ciri mencari kebenaran dengan membahas sebab dan musabab sesuatu peristiwa itu berlaku. Sejarawan juga perlu mengutamakan penulisan yang tidak berat sebelah kepada mana-mana pihak, supaya penulisan sejarahnya lebih jujur dan mengarah ke arah kebenaran. Menurut Ibn Khaldun (1993) lagi pemahaman ke atas sejarah itu penting agar masyarakat manusia boleh mengambil iktibar dan dapat menghindarkan daripada melakukan kesilapan. Beliau berpendapat bahawa ruang lingkup pengajian sejarah bukan hanya menumpukan kepada golongan berpengaruh dan peristiwa-peristiwa besar sahaja, tetapi juga perlu melibatkan golongan bawahan. Dengan demikian, aliran pemikiran pensejarahan Ibn Khaldun, yang lahir pada abad ke-14 Masihi, telah diguna-pakai dan diakui oleh para sejarawan kontemporari. Bagaimanapun, kertas ini hanya menumpukan perbincangan kepada pensejarahan analitikal dan kritis dengan melihat contoh pentafsiran ke atas kandungan munasabah penulisan sejarah dan sumber sejarah, samada dalam pensejarahan moden di Barat mahupun di alam Melayu.KATA KUNCI: Historiografi; Ibn Khaldun; Sejarah Analitikal dan Kritis; Ruang Lingkup Sejarah; Sumber Sejarah. ABSTRACT: “Ibn Khalduns Thoughts as Great Islamic Historian and its Relevance with Contemporary Historiography”. This paper, by adopting qualitative methods and historical approaches, tries to discuss about Ibn Khalduns historiography. His idea of historiography based on the emphasis on the necessity of historians is analytical and critical, both against historical writing and historical sources. The history that escapes critical elements is considered a descriptive hierarchy, as critical history has the character of seeking truth by discussing the causes and affects of such events. The historian should also prioritize the writing of impartiality to any party, so that the writing of history is more honest and leads to the truth. According to Ibn Khaldun (1993), understanding of history is important, so that human beings can learn and avoid mistakes. He thinks that the scope of history studies not only focuses on influential groups and major events, but also involves subordinates. Thus, the flow of thought of Ibn Khaldun, born in the 14th century, has been adopted and recognized by contemporary historians. Abstract

ABSTRAKSI: Al-Qur’an memang mengandungi pelbagai ilmu pengetahuan, tidak terkecuali dengan ilmu sejarah. Ini jelas menunjukan bahawa Islam juga menghargai peristiwa-peristiwa bersejarah, sepertimana yang terakam dalam Al-Qur’an dan Al-Hadith. Artikel ini, dengan menggunapakai kaedah penyelidikan sejarah dan penjelasan yang deskriptif-kualitatif, mahukan menganalisis tak setakat sejarah asal-usul manusia menurut Al-Qur’an, sejarah para Nabi, dan sejarah penciptaan alam nyata dan alam ghaib dalam Al-Qur’an, yang berorientasikan pada masa lalu, tetapi juga wujud hubung-kait antara pemerihalan sejarah dalam Al-Qur’an dan Al-Hadith itu dengan masalah-masalah terkini serta ramalan mengenai datangnya hari Kiamat, yang berorientasikan sejarah masa hadapan. Meskipun lembaran sejarah yang tercatat dalam Al-Qur’an dan Al-Hadith sudah menjangkau beribu tahun dan hingga kini sudah banyak kemajuan yang dicapai dalam tamadun manusia, namun yang tidak banyak berubah ialah kegiatan yang bertentangan dengan kehendak Allah SWT (Subhanahu Wa-Ta’ala). Nilai-nilai negatif seperti yang terdapat dalam sejarah Al-Qur’an, dalam kalangan manusia hari ini, masih wujud dan berleluasa. Oleh itu, boleh dikatakan bahawa manusia hari ini masih belum mahu mengambil iktibar daripada apa yang berlaku kepada kaum-kaum terdahulu, sepertimana yang didedahkan oleh kisah sejarah dalam Al-Qur’an dan Al-Hadith. Mereka tidak terfikir bahawa perkara ini akan mengundang bala dan bencana daripada Allah SWT, Tuhan Yang Maha Berkuasa.KATA KUNCI: Al-Qur’an dan Al-Hadith; Ilmu Sejarah; Iktibar; Sejarah para Nabi; Masalah Moral. ABSTRACT: “The Relationship of Al-Quran and Al-Hadith with the Science of History: Reflection of the Lesson from the God Almighty”. The Al-Quran indeed contains a variety of knowledges, no exception to the science of history. This clearly shows that Islam also concerned the historical events, as recorded in the Al-Quran and Al-Hadith. This article, by applying the method of historical research and descriptive-qualitative explanations, wants to analyze not only the history of human origin according to the Al-Quran, the history of the Prophets, and the history of real and supernatural creation in the Quran, which is oriented in the past, but there is also a connection between the historical description in the Quran and Al-Hadith with the latest problems and predictions about the coming of the Day of Judgment, which is historical oriented in the future. Although the history of the Al-Quran and the Al-Hadith has reached thousands of years, and has made many advances in human civilization, but that does not change much is the human activities contrary to the will of Allah Almighty. Negative values such as those found in the history of the Al-Quran, in human beings today, still exist and widespread. Therefore, it is argued that human beings today still have not been able to take lessons from what happened to the earlier races, as revealed by the historical accounts in the Al-Quran and Al-Hadith.
