INSANCITA: Journal of Islamic Studies in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. This journal, with ISSN 2443-2776, was firstly published on February 5, 2016, in the context to commemorate the anniversary of HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam or Association of Islamic College’s Students) in Indonesia. The INSANCITA journal has been organized by the Alumni of HMI who work as Lecturers at the HEIs (Higher Education Istitutions) in Indonesia, since issue of February 2016 to date; and published by Minda Masagi Press, a publishing house owned by ASPENSI (the Association of Indonesian Scholars of History Education) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia; and BRIMAN (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia Academic Network) Institute in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, since issue of February 2018 to date. The articles published in INSANCITA journal are able to be written in English as well as in Indonesian and Malay languages. The INSANCITA journal is published every February and August. The INSANCITA journal is devoted, but not limited to, Islamic studies and any new development and advancement in the field of Islamic society. The scope of our journal includes: (1) Language and Literature in Islam; (2) Social Science and Humanities in Islam; (3) History and Philosophy of Education in Islam; (4) Economy and Business in Islam; (5) Science, Technology and Society in Islam; (6) Political, Cultural and Social Engineering in Islam; and (7) Visual Arts, Dance, Music, and Design in Islam.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper, based on qualitative study, focuses on the status of women in Islam and the present Indian scenario. The status of women in Islam is very high, where they are considered equal to men; but the women of the minority community suffer from the dual handicap of being women and belonging to minority community in India. Muslim women are suffering, from both internal and external oppression. Muslim men practice what they themselves believe is Islamic and oppress their women, and refuse to entertain any thought of change. They degrade women and in most cases violate their rights by dictating them. Many Muslim women also believe that Islam enslaves them, because they have not listened to what is written in the Al-Qur’an. The Al-Qur’an liberates women and has given them equal status to men. Since the rural section of Indian society does not know what is written in the Al-Qur’an or Al-Hadith, they tend to follow the “imam” of their mosque, who himself comes from a poor family and in most cases has very limited knowledge of theology and Islamic “shariah” or law. The present study is concerned with four different areas of women’s life: (1) the private life, i.e. status in the family; (2) female education; (3) marriage and divorce; and (4), lastly, the practical life, i.e. employment and job opportunities. All these four areas are discussed the problems and concerns related to Muslim women in India, and what are their rights according to Islam. This study is a step in direction of eradicating misunderstanding and correcting the wrongs in prevalence. Makalah ini, berdasarkan studi kualitatif, berfokus pada status perempuan dalam Islam dan skenario dari India sekarang. Status perempuan dalam Islam sangat tinggi, di mana mereka dianggap setara dengan laki-laki; namun perempuan dari komunitas minoritas menderita kegagalan ganda, karena menjadi perempuan dan termasuk dalam komunitas minoritas di India. Wanita Muslim menderita, baik oleh penindasan internal maupun eksternal. Pria Muslim mempraktekan apa yang mereka percayai sendiri tentang Islam dan menindas wanita, serta menolak untuk memikirkan perubahan apapun terhadap wanita. Mereka menurunkan derajat perempuan dan dalam kebanyakan kasus melanggar hak mereka dengan mendikte para wanita. Banyak wanita Muslim juga percaya bahwa Islam memperbudak mereka, karena mereka tidak mendengarkan apa yang tertulis dalam Al-Quran. Al-Quran membebaskan wanita dan memberi mereka status yang setara dengan pria. Karena sebagian masyarakat pedesaan India tidak tahu apa yang tertulis dalam Al-Quran atau Al-Hadits, mereka cenderung mengikuti “imam” masjid, yang berasal dari keluarga miskin dan dalam kebanyakan kasus sangat terbatas pengetahuan tentang teologi dan syariah Islam. Kajian ini berkaitan dengan empat bidang kehidupan perempuan yang berbeda: (1) kehidupan pribadi, yaitu status dalam keluarga; (2) pendidikan perempuan; (3) pernikahan dan perceraian; dan (4), terakhir, kehidupan praktis, yaitu pekerjaan dan peluang kerja. Semua empat bidang tersebut dibahas masalah dan hal-hal yang terkait dengan wanita Muslim di India, serta apa hak mereka menurut Islam. Penelitian ini merupakan langkah menuju pemberantasan kesalahpahaman dan koreksi terhadap kesalahan dalam kelaziman. Abstract

ABSTRAKSI: Allah SWT (Subhanahu Wa-Ta’ala) menciptakan segala sesuatu berpasang-pasangan: ada siang dan malam, pagi dan petang, gelap dan terang, kiri dan kanan, atas dan bawah, termasuk juga laki-laki dan perempuan. Semua yang diciptakan oleh Allah SWT itu agar bekerja sama dan menjalin hubungan yang harmonis. Dalam kaitannya dengan perempuan, ianya dimungkinkan untuk beroleh tantangan dari dua sektor: keluarga dan publik, sehingga, setidaknya, ada empat posisi yang dapat diperankan. Pertama, sebagai isteri yang mendampingi suaminya, yaitu sebagai komponen dalam mengayuh biduk rumah tangga. Kedua, sebagai orang tua (ibu) yang acapkali diibaratkan sebagai “penyangga negara” dalam merawat, membesarkan, dan mendidik anak-anak. Ketiga, sebagai anak yang berbakti kepada orang tuanya. Keempat, sebagai anggota masyarakat yang melibatkan diri didalam sektor publik (sosial-kemasyarakatan). Kendati tidak bertentangan, namun dua sektor dan empat perannya tadi membutuhkan kearifan yang memadai dari pihak perempuan untuk menjalankan dan menatanya dengan baik. Maka, perempuan bukan saja harus mengelola waktu, tenaga, dan pikiran, tetapi juga harus siap mental untuk menangani roda kehidupan yang kompleks. Dalam perspektif Islam, perempuan adalah makhluk mulia, memiliki keunikannya sendiri, harus memaknai kodratnya sebagai perempuan, dan – pada akhirnya – tercipta untuk beribadah kepada Allah SWT. Islam menegaskan keharusan perempuan untuk menjalin hubungan yang harmonis didalam keluarga dan sektor publik, dan – dengan demikian – mengafirmasi kenyataan bahwa peran perempuan memang sangat besar.KATA KUNCI: Peran perempuan, perspektif Islam, konteks kekinian, berpasang-pasangan, hubungan yang harmonis, mendidik, mendampingi suami, dan berkiprah di sektor publik.ABSTRACT: “Role of Women in the Islamic Perspective: The Currently Context”. Allah SWT (Subhanahu Wa-Ta’ala or God the Most High) created everything in pairs: there are day and night, morning and evening, dark and light, left and right, top and bottom, as well as male and female. All created by Allah was to work together and establish a harmonious relationship. In relation to women, it is possible to receive a challenge from two sectors: the family and the public, so that, at least, there are four positions that can be played. Firstly, as a wife accompanying her husband, that is as a component in pedaling and managing the household. Secondly, as parents (mothers) who are often described as "buffer of the state" in caring, raising, and educating for children. Thirdly, as a son whose dutiful to her parents. Fourthly, as a member of society who engaged in the public sectors (social and public affairs). Although not contradictory, but the two sectors and four earlier roles required adequate knowledge for women to run and set it properly. Thus, women not only have to manage their time, energy, and mind, but also be prepared mentally to deal with complex life wheel. In the perspective of Islam, women are noble creatures, have its own uniqueness, must interpret her nature as women, and – ultimately – be created to worship to Allah. Abstract

ABSTRAKSI: Memahami politik tidak dapat dilepaskan dari pemahaman ideologi. Setiap partai politik di negara manapun memiliki ideologi tertentu. Partai politik berkiprah dan berperan dalam suatu negara akan selalu berpijak pada ideologi yang dianutnya. Begitu juga dalam mengkaji politik dalam perspektif psikologi politik. Setiap perilaku politik, pada galibnya, tidak akan menyimpang dari garis ideologi partai yang dianutnya. Makalah ini ditulis untuk mengetahui penjelasan politik Islam dalam perspektif psikologi politik. Makalah ini merupakan hasil reviu dari berbagai sumber bacaan, baik buku ataupun jurnal ilmiah. Penulisan makalah ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan sumber data pustaka. Hasil kajian menunjukan bahwa di antara pemikiran Islam dan politik, yang dikemukakan oleh Abu al-Hasan Ali bin Muhamad bin Habib al-Mawardi, Imam al-Ghazali, dan Ibnu Taimiyah, pemikiran tersebut banyak dipahami dan menjadi pegangan umat Islam yang bermahzab Sunni. Walaupun demikian, perilaku politik yang dilakukan oleh seseorang, baik individu ataupun kelompok, pada umumnya selalu dikaitkan dengan teori S-R atau Stimulus – Respons dari aliran behavioralisme. Pada sisi lain, sumber-sumber perilaku orang tersebut secara individu dan kelompok berakar pada ideologi, sikap, dan nilai yang dianutnya. Dalam konteks ini, hubungan Islam dan politik dapat dijelaskan, baik melalui ilmu politik maupun psikologi politik, dalam perspektif Islam. Hal itu karena politik Islam dapat berintegrasi dengan psikologi politik. Akhirnya, untuk mengurangi pemahaman-pemahaman politik garis keras, ataupun radikalisme dalam Islam, maka ilmu psikologi politik dapat digunakan untuk menyelesaikan problema sosial dan politik tersebut.KATA KUNCI: Islam dan Politik; Psikologi Politik; Ideologi, Sikap dan Nilai; Umat Islam; Problema Sosial dan Politik. ABSTRACT: “Islam and Power in the Perspective of Political Psychology”. Understanding politics cannot be separated from the understanding of ideology. Any political party in any country has a particular ideology. Political parties take part and play a role in a country will always stand on the ideology that its embraces. So also in the study of politics in the perspective of political psychology. Any political behavior, on the other hand, will not deviate from the ideological line of the party that its embraces. This paper was written to know the explanation of Islamic politics in the perspective of political psychology. This paper is the result of reviews from various sources of reading, whether books or scientific journals. Writing this paper using qualitative methods with the source of library data. The results of the study show that among Islamic and political thought, proposed by Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Habib al-Mawardi, Imam al-Ghazali, and Ibn Taymiyya, these ideas are widely understood and become the guidance of Muslims with Sunni’ school of thought. Nevertheless, the political behavior undertaken by a person, whether individual or group, is generally always associated with S-R or Stimulus – Response theory from the behavioralism school of thought. On the other hand, the individual and groups behavioral sources are rooted in his/her ideology, attitudes, and values. In this context, Islamic and political relations can be explained, both through political science and political psychology, in the Islamic perspectives. Thats because Islamic politics can be integrated with political psychology. Abstract

ABSTRACT: The paper examined stress management with special emphasis on Pastor’s wife. This work is germane because of the statistical data in the country of Nigeria which revealed the rate at which people are dying as a result of diseases associated with stress. It is believed that stress, if not properly managed, could lead to several ailments, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic headache, insomnia, and the likes. In addition, the study noted that both male and female are affected by stress, but the fact is that women are more likely to experience stress. This is because she plays multiple roles of a home-maker, a mother, a professional, and the added responsibility of bearing children. The paper further highlights some factors that cause stress for Pastor’s wife. In order to determine this, focal group discussion was used to obtain information and perceptions that might not have come through questionnaire. The findings revealed that overload of work coupled, with the divided attention of their spouse, are the major cause of stress for Pastor’s wife. Also, the empirical data given in the work would serve as convincing grounds for policy makers in both the church and society, at large to work towards educating people to manage their schedule in such a way that it would not take at all on their health. The need for Pastor’s wife to set boundaries for themselves, at least for the purpose of their mental, physical, and spiritual well-being was recommended.  KEY WORD: Stress; Pastor’s Wife; Coping Strategy; Church and Society; Mental and Physical Health. ABSTRAKSI: “Sebuah Ujian dalam Menerima dan Strategi Mengatasi Stres bagi Istri Pendeta di Nigeria”. Makalah ini meneliti manajemen stres dengan penekanan khusus pada istri Pendeta. Karya ini sangat lekat karena data statistik di negara Nigeria ini mengungkapkan tahapan di mana orang-orang sekarat akibat penyakit yang berhubungan dengan stres. Hal ini diyakini bahwa stres, jika tidak dikelola dengan baik, dapat menyebabkan beberapa penyakit, seperti tekanan darah tinggi, diabetes, sakit kepala kronis, insomnia, dan sejenisnya. Selain itu, penelitian ini mencatat bahwa baik laki-laki maupun perempuan dipengaruhi oleh stres, tetapi kenyataannya perempuan lebih mungkin untuk mengalami stres. Hal ini karena ia memainkan peran ganda dari mengurus rumah tangga, menjadi seorang ibu, pekerja terampil, dan tanggung jawab tambahan bagi sandaran anak-anaknya. Makalah ini lebih menyoroti beberapa faktor yang menyebabkan stres bagi istri Pendeta. Untuk menentukan ini, diskusi kelompok terfokus digunakan dalam memperoleh informasi dan persepsi yang mungkin tidak bisa didapatkan melalui kuesioner. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa kelebihan beban kerja, ditambah dengan perhatian yang terbagi sebagai pasangan suami-isteri, adalah penyebab utama stres bagi istri Pendeta. Juga, data empiris yang diberikan dalam bekerja untuk melayani merupakan alasan meyakinkan bagi para pembuat kebijakan, baik gereja maupun masyarakat, yang pada umumnya bekerja untuk mendidik umat agar mereka mampu mengelola jadwal sedemikian rupa sehingga tidak akan mengurangi sama sekali kesehatan mereka.  ABSTRAKSI: Kajian ini bertujuan mengelaborasi peranan organisasi HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam) dan sumbangannya dalam pemikiran dan dakwah Islam di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan sejarah dan kajian sosial-politik. Hasil kajian menunjukan bahwa peranan dan sumbangan HMI yang paling signifikan, di tengah-tengah gerakan Islam Indonesia, adalah pembaharuan pemikiran Islam yang bertujuan untuk membangun nilai-nilai baru dalam doktrin Islam. HMI merupakan organisasi mahasiswa Islam yang tertua dan terbesar di Indonesia, yang lahir pada tahun 1947, dalam suasana revolusi kemerdekaan Indonesia. Karena HMI merupakan organisasi yang tumbuh dan berkembang dalam lanskap sosial dan politik Indonesia, maka HMI merupakan organisasi yang berbeda dengan yang ada di negara-negara Islam lainnya di dunia. Dari pengalaman dan perjalanan sejarahnya yang panjang dan penuh dinamika itu, HMI memiliki corak pemikiran dan dakwah yang khas, yakni usaha untuk memadukan nilai-nilai ke-Islam-an dan ke-Indonesia-an dalam suatu kerangka pikir dan paradigma, yang bisa dirumuskan dalam visi, misi, dan program yang nyata. Berdasarkan kerangka pikir dan paradigma khas tersebut, yaitu mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai ke-Islam-an dan ke-Indonesia-an, dengan sifat independensinya, maka HMI bisa memberikan solusi terhadap masalah dan kondisi masyarakat Indonesia yang sangat beragam dan dinamis ini. KATA KUNCI: Mahasiswa Islam; Gerakan Dakwah; Ke-Islam-an dan Ke-Indonesia-an; Masyarakat Muslim Indonesia; Modern, Sejahtera, dan Beradab. ABSTRACT: “The Movement of Islamic Students Association in Thinking and Preaching in Indonesia”. This study aims to elaborate on the role of the organization of HMI (Islamic Students Association) and the contribution to the Islamic thinking and preaching in Indonesia. The methods of research used are the historical approach and socio-political study. The study results indicate that the role and contribution most significantly of HMI, in the mainstream of Indonesian Islamic movement, is the renewal of Islamic thought which aims to establish new values in Islamic doctrine. HMI is an Islamic students associations oldest and largest in Indonesia, established in 1947, a period of Indonesian revolution. Due to HMI is an organization grow and thrive in the social and political landscape of Indonesia, so the HMI is an organization that is different from those in other Islamic countries in the world. From its experiences and long journey history that full of dynamics, HMI has had the typical patterns of thinking and preaching, that is an attempt to integrate the values of Islam and the Indonesian-ness within a framework of thinking and paradigms, which can be formulated in the vision, mission, and a real program. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research aims at finding out the remedies for the disease of arrogance/pride that has been rampant among the people in contemporary Muslim world, particularly Nigerian Muslim society. The analysis is not on words and terms, but rather on meaning and ideas with analysis and explanations given by the “Mufassirun” and other scholars. ‘Uthman bin Foduye emerged in nineteenth-century with the mission to revive the Sunnah, and to eradicate innovations in Hausaland (West Africa) caused by the deviant teachings. This is the reason why he wrote on spiritual diseases in his book related to healing of the soul. ‘Uthman bin Foduye was influenced by al-Ghazali and particularly his book on “Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din” (Revival of the Religious Sciences). He wrote this treaty in order to make it easier for the people to know the destructive evils of the heart, so as to do what Allah loves and accepts, since pride is one of the attributes of Allah alone. The appearance of the British destroyed the Sokoto Caliphate in Northern-Nigeria and burnt many of Uthman bin Foduye’s books, including the “Shifa al-Nufus” (Healing of the Soul), for fear that his works will inspire his followers people to rise against the oppressors. Kajian ini mau mencari tahu ubat bagi penyakit sombong/bangga diri yang telah berleluasa di kalangan rakyat di dunia Islam masa kini, terutamanya masyarakat Islam Nigeria. Analisis ini tidak disenaraikan dalam kata-kata dan istilah, tetapi pada makna dan idea dengan analisis dan penjelasan yang diberikan oleh Mufassirun dan ulama yang lain. Uthman bin Foduye muncul pada abad ke-19 dengan misi untuk menghidupkan semula Sunnah, dan untuk membasmi amalan bid’ah di Hausaland (Afrika Barat) yang disebabkan oleh ajaran sesat. Ini adalah sebab mengapa dia menulis mengenai penyakit rohani dalam bukunya bersabit penyembuhan jiwa. Uthman bin Foduye dipengaruhi oleh al-Ghazali dan terutamanya buku “Ihya Ulum al-Din” (Kebangkitan Ilmu-ilmu Agama). Beliau menulis risalah ini untuk membuat ianya lebih mudah bagi rakyat supaya tahu keburukan yang merosakan hati, untuk melakukan apa yang Allah suka dan menerima, kerana kebanggaan diri setakat milik Allah semata-mata. Abstract

ABSTRAKSI: “Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan” merupakan tafsir kedua selepas “Tarjuman al-Mustafid”, yang ditulis dalam bahasa Melayu pada abad ke-19 Masihi oleh Syeikh Muhammad Sa’id Umar. Objektif utama kajian ini dilakukan adalah untuk mengesan dan memperlihatkan pengaruh sumber teks luar yang terdapat di dalam teks “Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan” mengenai sumber “Al-Isra’iliyyat”. Proses menganalisis “Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan” akan menggunakan kaedah bacaan intertekstual yang diasaskan oleh Mikhail Mikhaelovic Bakhtin (1981), serta dikembangkan huraian dan penganalisaannya oleh Julia Krestiva (1980). Dari sudut kaedah penyelidikan, kajian ini berbentuk kajian kepustakaan dan juga lapangan yang menggunakan pendekatan subjektif bagi melihat data secara deskriptif dan kualitatif. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa terdapat tujuh buah karya yang telah mempengaruhi intipati teks “Al-Isra’iliyyat”, iaitu: “Tafsir al-Jalalyn” karya Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti & Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli (1337/1919); “Tafsir al-Jamal” karya Sulayman bin ‘Umar al-‘Ujjayli al-Jamal (t.th.); “Tafsir al-Baydawi” karya Nasir al-Din Abu Sa’id ‘Abd Allah Ibn Muhammad al-Shayrazi al-Baydawi (1416/1996); “Tafsir al-Khazin” karya ‘Ala al-Din ‘Ali Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim al-Baghdadi al-Khazin (1339/1979); “Tafsir al-Baghawi” karya Muhy al-Sunnah Abu Muhammad al-Husayn bin Mas’ud al-Baghawi (1409/1988); “Al-Jami’ al-Ahkam al-Qur’an” karya Abu ‘Abdillah Muhamad bin Ahmad al-Ansari al-Qurtubi (1423/2003); serta “Al-Kashf wa al-Bayan ‘an Tafsir al-Qur’an” karya Abu Ishaq Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim al-Naysaburi al-Tha’labi (1422/2002). Dapatan analisis juga membuktikan bahawa karya yang mendominasi teks “Al-Isra’iliyyat” di dalam “Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan” ialah “Tafsir al-Jamal”.KATA KUNCI: Sejarah; Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan; Al-Isra’iliyyat; Bacaan Intertekstual; Prinsip Intertekstual. ABSTRACT: “Intertextual Reading towards Al-Isra’iliyyat in the Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan”. “Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan” is the second interpretation after “Tarjuman al-Mustafid” written in the Malay language in the 19th century by Sheikh Muhammad Said Umar. The main objective of this study is to identify the influence of the external source in the text of “Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan” about the “Al-Isra’iliyyat”. Intertextual reading method is used in the process of analyzing “Tafsir Nur al-Ihsan” founded by Mikhail Mikhaelovic Bakhtin (1981), and descriptions developed and analyzed by Julia Krestiva (1980). From the research method, this study is a literature review and field work using the subjective approach which are descriptive and qualitative data. The study found seven works which have influenced the essence of “Al-Isra’iliyyat”, they are: “Tafsir al-Jalalyn” by Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti & Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli (1337/1919); “Tafsir al-Jamal” by Sulayman bin ‘Umar al-‘Ujjayli al-Jamal (n.y.); “Tafsir al-Baydawi” by Nasir al-Din Abu Sa’id ‘Abd Allah Ibn Muhammad al-Shayrazi al-Baydawi (1416/1996); “Tafsir al-Khazin” by ‘Ala al-Din ‘Ali Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim al-Baghdadi al-Khazin (1339/1979); “Tafsir al-Baghawi” by Muhy al-Sunnah Abu Muhammad al-Husayn bin Mas’ud al-Baghawi (1409/1988); “Al-Jami’ al-Ahkam al-Qur’an” by Abu ‘Abdillah Muhamad bin Ahmad al-Ansari al-Qurtubi (1423/2003); and “Al-Kashf wa al-Bayan ‘an Tafsir al-Qur’an” by Abu Ishaq Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim al-Naysaburi al-Tha’labi (1422/2002).
