Abstract

Bayesian Belief Network (BBN), one of the data mining classification methods, is used in this research for mining and analyzing medical track record from a relational data table. In this paper, a mutual information concept is extended using fuzzy labels for determining the relation between two fuzzy nodes. The highest fuzzy information gain is used for mining fuzzy association rules in order to extend a BBN. Meaningful fuzzy labels can be defined for each domain data. For example, fuzzy labels of secondary disease and complication disease are defined for a disease classification. The implemented of the extended BBN in a application program gives a contribution for analyzing medical track record based on BBN graph and conditional probability tables.

Abstract

In this paper we discuss a mathematical model of inventory control policy based on local stability analysis using a system dynamics approach. It is assumed that the production capacity and the maximum production capacity has an upper limit but with sufficient availability of raw materials so that the production occurs continuously without stock out. The model is intended to meet the market equilibrium by determining the optimal number of agents in a team of salesman, the level of inventory, and the level of production capacity, so that thenet income is maximized. We use the Pontryagin Maximum Principle to find the optimal control of the system. Finally some numerical simulations are performed to give a sensitivity analysis of the inventory control policy to the parameters involved in the system.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze thermal condition and improve working environment by designed ventilation systems due to improve air circulation and reduce heat exposure occurred so that workers feel more comfortable working. This study describes the thermal conditions of work and its relation to psychological aspects operator traced through thermal questionnaires. By knowing the conditions of the proposed design is further improved ventilation system. The measurement results show that the thermal average air temperature in the formulations room was 31.7 °C and wind speed of 0.27 m/s. Heat Stress Index (HSI) in the workplace about 94.41%, which indicates the great potential of the dangers of heat stress. Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index gained 27.64 °C so that the percentage of working time and rest time workers was 6.55 and 1.55 hours, where the percentage is not according to the standard. Productive work time workers only achieved ranged from (76.58 ± 5.91)%, where the figure is still below the standards of the company. Simulation with Computer Fluid Dynamic (CFD) software shows actual workplace conditions are very hot and poorly ventilated. By conducting some simulations improvement, then found a comfortable room conditions and air circulation smoothly. Thermal comfort is finally concluded comfortable room after Cv’s room obtained exceeds 0.34 m/s in accordance with the Macfarlane theory’s.

Abstract

Improper inventory system in terms of cost and customer satisfaction is always the most common problem in every part of industries, and of course, also for retailers. The inappropriateness in setting of orders makes the warehouse overloaded for some kind of goods and lack for the others. To overcome this problem, we proposed to apply the Neuro-Dynamic method for optimizing the composition of goods. This method can be easily implemented using computer program and the result indicates that the overdemand and oversupply problems in that company are solved.

Abstract

Procurement function in manufacturing organisations has played significantly more critical roles nowadays than in the past. The contribution of procurement function is much determined by how well the procurement management system is designed. A critical aspect of managing procurement function in order to optimise its contribution to the organisation is procurement portfolio, i.e., categorisation of items and then differentiation of procurement focus for different categories. This paper will discuss procurement portfolio as a basis for procurement manager to optimise the contribution of his/her function in supporting the organisation's objectives. The role of electronic procurement in each category of the portfolio will also be discussed.

Abstract

Many business and economic time series are non-stationary time series that contain trend and seasonal variations. Seasonality is a periodic and recurrent pattern caused by factors such as weather, holidays, or repeating promotions. A stochastic trend is often accompanied with the seasonal variations and can have a significant impact on various forecasting methods. In this paper, we will investigate and compare some forecasting methods for modeling time series with both trend and seasonal patterns. These methods are Winter's, Decomposition, Time Series Regression, ARIMA and Neural Networks models. In this empirical research, we study on the effectiveness of the forecasting performance, particularly to answer whether a complex method always give a better forecast than a simpler method. We use a real data, that is airline passenger data. The result shows that the more complex model does not always yield a better result than a simpler one. Additionally, we also find the possibility to do further research especially the use of hybrid model by combining some forecasting method to get better forecast, for example combination between decomposition (as data preprocessing) and neural network model.

Abstract

Remanufacturing has become more prominent as a recovery process to mitigate the massive disposal of short life-cycle product at its end-of-use. However, remanufactured product is often perceived to be inferior to new product, and it has lower value in consumer’s willingness to pay. To increase the perceived quality of the remanufactured product, manufacturer offers a warranty, since one of the three roles possessed in warranty is being a signal to product reliability. This paper studies the pricing decisions and warranty level decision for new and remanufactured products in a closed-loop supply chain consists of a manufacturer and a retailer. The optimization modeling is performed under Stackelberg game with manufacturer as the leader. We found that higher expansion effectiveness coefficient would increase the supply chain profit. Also, there is an interval of demand’s speed of change, where the total profit would be at its highest. The optimum warranty level can be achieved regardless the initial warranty level set at the beginning of retailer’s optimization. Furthermore, the remanufactured product’s wholesale and retail prices are influenced by the expansion effectiveness coefficient.

Abstract

Many organizations apply information technologies to support their business processes. Using the information technologies, the actual events are recorded and utilized to conform with predefined model. Conformance checking is an approach to measure the fitness and appropriateness between process model and actual events. However, when there are multiple events with the same timestamp, the traditional approach unfit to result such measures. This study attempts to develop a sequence matching analysis. Considering conformance checking as the basis of this approach, this proposed approach utilizes the current control flow technique in process mining domain. A case study in the field of educational process has been conducted. This study also proposes a curriculum analysis framework to test the proposed approach. By considering the learning sequence of students, it results some measurements for curriculum development. Finally, the result of the proposed approach has been verified by relevant instructors for further development.

Abstract

The problem which will be discussed is assembly lines in the shop floor, especially in sewing department. This department used line process system, that arised problems such as process jam, delay, wasting time of workers and too much holding materials. This research introduced process innovation, i.e. forming work-groups among workers. There are two alternative ideas which will be assessed. First, work-groups by process. Second, work-groups by complete line. After choosing the best idea, then the process was followed up with line balancing method with COMSOAL (Computer Method of Sequencing for Assembly Lines). The result showed that the second idea (complete line work groups) is better than the first one. Efficiency improvement is 29.2 % compared by the efficiency before the application of line balancing. Setelah terpilih ide alternatif terbaik, dilakukan keseimbangan lintasan dengan metode COMSOAL (Computer Method of Sequencing for Assembly Lines). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ide terbaik adalah pengelompokan dengan line utuh. Setelah dilakukan keseimbangan lintasan, diperoleh peningkatan efisiensi sebesar 29,2% dibandingkan kondisi sebelum diterapkan keseimbangan lintasan. Kata kunci: inovasi proses, keseimbangan lintasan.
