Abstract

Digital disruption is a popular phrase today and makes print media must really strategise, especially in determining news headlines as the main presentation. This study aims to analyse the strategy of the North Sumatra Pos and Tribun Medan Daily Editors in determining news issues that will be used as headlines, so that they can attract readers' interest. The objects in this study are Sumut Pos and Tribun Medan newspapers whose news is presented in printed form. Researchers took three news in each media from the May-June 2024 time span. This time span was chosen, to show the selection process of news titles published with the number of copies of each edition. The theory used is the concept of gatekeeping from David Mannining White (1950), which generally describes the selection process in the work of the media, especially the decision whether a news story can pass through the ‘gate’ to be aired on the news channel. The method used is descriptive qualitative with an interpretative approach, and a comparative study technique. The results showed that both media conducted the same process, starting from planning at the projection meeting, determined through a budget meeting, and the news agreed upon by the gatekeepersis news that is considered worthy of going up and becoming a headline by prioritising the news value contained in it. News or issues that develop in online media and social media or new media are also a reference for both media, but with a more in-depth presentation and different perspectives.

Abstract

Communication between teachers and students is an important element in problem-based learning (PBL). This study aims to explore students' perceptions of the effectiveness of teacher communication in guiding PBL projects, as well as how these perceptions affect student engagement and learning outcomes. A qualitative approach with a correlational descriptive design was used to explore the relationship between teacher communication and the level of student engagement. The findings of the study show that the clarity of instruction, constructive feedback, teachers' ability to facilitate group discussions, and the use of technology have an important role in improving students' understanding and engagement in PBL. Most students assessed teacher communication as effective, but there were still challenges related to the use of technology and the involvement of all group members in discussions. The results of the correlation analysis showed a significant positive relationship between students' perception of teacher communication and their level of involvement in PBL projects, as well as contributing to better learning outcomes. This research provides insights for the development of more effective communication strategies in supporting problem-based learning, with special attention to clear instructions, relevant feedback, and appropriate use of technology.

Abstract

Plantation management in Indonesia plays an important role in supporting the national economic sector. Digital transformation has brought significant changes through the implementation of digital communications such as mobile applications, web-based systems, and cloud platforms. This technology speeds up workflows, improves data-driven decision-making, and facilitates coordination between stakeholders. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the impact of digital communication in improving plantation operational efficiency. The results show that digitalization allows for more effective resource management, reduced operational costs, and increased productivity. However, there are challenges in the form of low digital literacy of field workers, limited internet infrastructure, and the need for technology training. In addition to supporting operational efficiency, digital technology also contributes to environmental sustainability by minimizing the use of excess chemicals. Successful digital transformation requires collaboration between governments, the private sector, and stakeholders to develop digital infrastructure, provide intensive training, and increase motivation for technology adoption. This research emphasizes that digitalization is a strategic step that not only strengthens the plantation sector but also supports economic and environmental sustainability in Indonesia.
