Focus of al-Afkar, Journal for Islamic Studies is on publishing original empirical research articles and theoretical reviews of Islamic Studies, it covers various issues on the Islamic studies within such number of fields as Islamic Education, Islamic thought, Islamic law, political Islam, and Islamic economics from social and cultural perspectives and content analysis from al-Qur’an and Hadist. In other than forementioned field in Islamic Studies, al-Afkar, Journal for Islamic Studies also accepts articles which cover the topic on the cross section between Islam Studies and other scientific field, such as sociology, law, economics, and others.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia play an important role in the education and development of the younger generation, especially for orphans and the poor. However, the sustainability of pesantren operations often faces challenges, especially in the aspect of funding. This study aims to identify effective strategies, challenges, and innovations in fund management to support pesantren operations. A qualitative research method with a descriptive-analytical approach was used, involving in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The results showed that the use of digital platforms, transparency in fund management, and diversification of funding sources were able to increase the effectiveness of fundraising. Innovations such as periodic donation programmes and strategic partnerships with the private sector are recommendations for the long-term sustainability of pesantren.

Abstract

The aim of implementing this service is to find out the success in applying mind mapping strategies in writing scientific articles for MA Ummul Quro Al-Islami teachers. The method of implementing this service is implementing service for MA Ummul Quro Al-Islami teachers to increase their professional rank through training in writing scientific articles using the Mind Mapping strategy. The approach used in this service is the PAR (Participatory Action Research) approach. According to Agus Afandi, the stages of using the PAR approach are the to Know stage, the to Understand stage, the to Plan stage, the to Act stage, and the to Change stage. The results of implementing this service, namely Mentoring and Training in Scientific Article Writing through the Mind Mapping Strategy, showed significant results. These results are shown by the results of writing scientific articles which have an average score of 77%. This means that this value describes that teachers are able to write scientific articles after learning through mind mapping strategies. Likewise, the results show proof of submitting articles in several accredited and national journals. The conclusion from this service is that it has succeeded in making changes to the ability to write scientific articles.

Abstract

Bullying is a high-intensity behavior perpetrated by one person against another with the aim of hurting or humiliating the victim. This action aims to make the victim feel helpless and suffer. This study aims to explore the strategies of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in instilling ethical and moral values to prevent and handle cases of verbal bullying at Muhammadiyah Al-Qolam Junior High School. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, the most common form of verbal bullying is ridicule or demeaning nicknames, which can cause emotional disturbance to the victim and affect the overall atmosphere of the school. The strategies implemented include religious habituation programs, counseling services, counseling related to bullying, giving advice, and periodic evaluation and supervision. Islamic education is used as the main approach to build good morals, instilling the values of empathy, tolerance and respect for others. However, the obstacles faced include the tendency of students to repeat bullying behavior even though they have been given guidance. Therefore, cooperation between teachers, students, parents and the community is needed to create a positive, conducive, bullying-free school environment that supports good character development.

Abstract

This research argues that cremation is not only problematic from a religious aspect, but also from an economic aspect. The limited number of burial plots and the high monthly cost of renting land are the main factors in thr increase in cremation rates in Indonesia. Some of it is also due to traditions and customs.This research uses qualitative methods with a theoretical approach viewed from legal and economic aspects. Various scientific articles and books have been analyzed to understand how cost considerations and land limitations influence people in carrying out cremation, as well as how Islamic law views cremation.

Abstract

Music is a common practice in our country for conveying Islamic messages. Preaching through music is readily accepted by the majority of the general public. However, as Muslims, we must heed the rules and regulations surrounding music. Within the legal context of music, there are differing views on music: those that consider it haram (forbidden) and those that permit it under certain conditions. In the differing opinions of scholars, the original meaning does not imply conflict or disagreement. However, human nature, which then causes differences among scholars, eventually leads to disagreements and escalates into conflict. This is because their hearts are too narrow to accept the reality of differences. Differences of opinion are not inherently synonymous with hostility and hatred. They can occur without diminishing respect and appreciation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concepts and fundamental principles in developing Arabic teaching materials. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a library research approach, data were collected from various literature sources such as books, journals, and relevant articles. The data analysis process included reduction, categorization, and interpretation of the literature, focusing on the principles of curriculum relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and theoretical approaches such as behaviorism, constructivism, and communicative methods. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation to confirm reliability.The findings indicate that effective Arabic teaching materials must align with the curriculum, support the achievement of student competencies, and be designed effectively and efficiently. Key elements of teaching materials include systematically and attractively organized text, images, exercises, and evaluations. The development of teaching materials based on behaviorist approaches emphasizes behavior modification through repetition and reinforcement, constructivist approaches focus on independent learning and student experiences, while communicative approaches facilitate language use in real-life contexts.This study concludes that well-designed teaching materials adhering to learning principles are essential to support students' success in understanding and mastering content. These findings provide practical recommendations for developing interactive and effective Arabic teaching materials tailored to learning needs.

Abstract

اهتم جامعة دار السلام كونتور بتعليم اللغة العربية منذ إنشائه إلى اليوم.  ويستدل ذلك بوجود برنامج المخيم العربي الذي يركز جميع أنشطته لترقية لغة المشاركين في العربية. ومع ذلك لا يزال هذا البرنامج يواجه صعوبات كبيرة في تعليمها. تتمثل هذه الصعوبات في عدم المواد التعليمية المناسبة بالمنهج. فمن أجل معالجة هذه المشكلة، يقوم الباحث بتصميم مادة تعليمية في ضوء نظرية التحليل التقابلي. يحاول هذا البحث الإجابة عن سؤالين، هما: «ما مواصفات المواد التعليمية لترقية مهارة الاستماع لمشاركي المخيم العربي بجامعة دار السلام كونتور؟» و«ما أثر هذه المواد التعليمية المسممة المؤسسة على نظرية التقابل اللغوي في ترقية مهارة الاستماع لمشاركي المخيم العربي بجامعة دار السلام كونتور ؟». هدف هذا البحث بيان مواصفات المواد التعليمية لمادة الإنشاء المصممة  لترقية مهارة الاستماع لمشاركي المخيم العربي بجامعة دار السلام كونتور ، بالإضافة إلى معرفة أثرها في تحصيل المشاركين بعد تطبيقها. كان المنهج المستخدم لهذا البحث هو منهج البحث والتطوير (Research & Development)، والأساليب لجمع البيانات المستخدمة فيه تشمل المقابلة والاستبانة والاختبار والوثائق المكتوبة. وفي تحليل البيانات، استخدمت الباحثة صيغة اختبار-t. ومن أهم نتائج هذه الدراسة أن المواد التعليمية لترقية مهارة الاستماع تأتي على شكل الكتاب وأن لهذه المواد أثرا إيجابيا في تحسين مهارة الاستماع لمشاركي المخيم العربي، إذ أن درجات نتائج اختبارهم البعدي ترتفع بشكل ملحوظ بالمقارنة مع درجات نتائجهم في الاختبار القبلي. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك، أن نتائج الاستبانة تقوي نتيجة البحث وتثبت أن هذه المواد التعليمية جذابة ويحبها الطلاب. بناءا على النتائج السابقة من هذا البحث، يرجو الباحث جميع مدرسي مهارة الاستماع الاهتمام التام بكفاءة المشاركين في جميع المهارات اللغوية خاصّة في الاستماع ، باعتبار أن له دورا مهمّا في مساعدة المشاركين على اكساب قدرتهم الاتصال اللغوي مع الآخرين. وكما يرجوهم الاهتمام بتوفير المواد التعليمية وتصميمها على حسب احتياجات المشاركين، حتى تناسب كفاءة الطلاب وتغرس حبّهم في تعلّم اللغة العربيّة

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of professional school leadership in enhancing the effectiveness of Islamic education management. Professional leadership includes the ability to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate educational programs in line with Islamic values. In this context, the principal functions not only as an administrative manager but also as a spiritual leader and motivator capable of fostering a morally sound and conducive educational environment. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the professional leadership of school principals positively influences the effectiveness of Islamic education management, particularly in human resource management, improving the quality of learning, and building a religious school culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of John Dewey's Pragmatism Education. As far as the author reads, John Dewey's Education is oriented towards Pragmatism by carrying out the concepts of "Learning by Doing" and Progressive Education. Dewey's educational reform was motivated by his passion for traditional dogmatic and authoritarian approaches to education. In the preparation of this article, the author uses the Library Research method by analyzing the concept of Dewey's thoughts from his works so that it becomes a complete concept. The results of this study have at least two important points, first, John Dewey's Pragmatism Education Concept emphasizes the urgency of experience for students to become provisions in community life. Second, Dewey's concept of education is considered to still have confusion from its method, substance, and axiology, so some Western scientists to Muslims criticize the concept.

Abstract

تتناول هذه الدراسة العلاقة بين فلسفة اللغة وعلمي النحو وأصول الفقه في التراث الإسلامي، مركزة على تأثير المفاهيم الفلسفية في تطور القواعد النحوية والأصولية. تنطلق الدراسة من فرضية أن اللغة ليست مجرد وسيلة للتواصل، بل هي نظام معرفي يشكل الفهم والتأويل للنصوص الشرعية. من خلال تحليل آراء علماء كابن جني، سيبويه، الشافعي، والغزالي، يتم توضيح كيف أن فهم الأحكام الشرعية لا يمكن أن يتم دون فهم السياقات اللغوية العميقة ودلالات الألفاظ.  تبرز الدراسة كيف أن القواعد الأصولية مثل العام والخاص، والمطلق والمقيد، تعتمد على تحليل لغوي دقيق، كما تؤكد على ضرورة تجاوز التفسير الحرفي للنصوص والالتفات إلى السياق والمقاصد، انسجامًا مع الطروحات الحديثة لفلاسفة اللغة مثل Wittgenstein وRicoeur. وتخلص إلى أن التكامل بين الفكر اللغوي والأصولي يعد مدخلا لتجديد الدراسات الشرعية وتأصيل الاجتهاد المعاصر.
