Focus of al-Afkar, Journal for Islamic Studies is on publishing original empirical research articles and theoretical reviews of Islamic Studies, it covers various issues on the Islamic studies within such number of fields as Islamic Education, Islamic thought, Islamic law, political Islam, and Islamic economics from social and cultural perspectives and content analysis from al-Qur’an and Hadist. In other than forementioned field in Islamic Studies, al-Afkar, Journal for Islamic Studies also accepts articles which cover the topic on the cross section between Islam Studies and other scientific field, such as sociology, law, economics, and others.

Abstract

In the modern era characterized by rapid developments in science and technology, the need for the integration of knowledge and religion has become increasingly pressing. While these two elements have distinct domains, they possess the potential to complement each other in providing comprehensive solutions to the various challenges faced by the global community. The integration of science and religion is not only relevant in addressing ethical and moral issues but also in building a holistic and inclusive education system. The Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is one of the institutions that have consistently developed the paradigm of integrating science and religion, known as the integrative-interconnective approach. This paradigm aims not only to unify these two disciplines but also to dynamically connect them within the realm of both theory and praxis in higher education. The paradigm serves as a model for the development of knowledge grounded in Islamic values while simultaneously opening a dialogue with modern science. However, the implementation of the integration of science and religion in the era of globalization faces various challenges, ranging from resistance to the paradigm shift, limited resources, to the pressure from the predominantly secular modernization. Nevertheless, significant opportunities have also emerged with the growing academic literature that elaborates on this approach, such as the journal Afkaruna: Indonesian Interdisciplinary Journal of Islamic Studies and other works highlighting the importance of renewing the scientific paradigm in Islamic higher education institutions

Abstract

This study examines Islamic education policy in Indonesia during the Reformation era, highlighting the transformation from a centralized to a decentralized system, strategic policies, progress, and challenges faced. Islamic education gained strong legitimacy within the national education system through Law Number 20 of 2003, which expanded recognition of various Islamic educational institutions. Furthermore, strategic policies such as the allocation of 20% of the state budget (APBN), compulsory education programs, and the development of competency-based curricula have had a positive impact. However, challenges such as regional disparities and radicalism remain a concern. This study emphasizes the importance of innovation and inclusivity to ensure Islamic education remains relevant in the era of globalization.

Abstract

Character education is an important aspect in the formation of a young generation with noble character, while Islamic education management plays a key role in designing, managing, and evaluating religious activities that support this goal. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, which were then analyzed descriptively. The results show that Islamic education management at MAN 2 Tasikmalaya has successfully integrated character values ​​into religious activities such as religious study, congregational prayer, the habit of reading the Qur'an, and socio-religious activities. A participatory approach, visionary leadership, and consistent supervision are key factors in the success of implementing character education through religious activities. This study concludes that Islamic education management has a significant contribution in creating an educational environment that supports the holistic development of student character.

Abstract

Education is a major factor in the progress of a nation and the development of individuals and society. The urgency of optimizing education needs to be considered from two sides, namely from the side of an educator and educational staff, an educator has a major role in education, however there are several competency problems within an educator, namely, the low ability of educators to control the class, low innovation and creativity carried out to create creative and enjoyable learning. The necessary efforts are to improve the quality of educators by restoring an educator's awareness of the standards that must be met, and grouping the types of educators so that the educational process becomes more optimal. This type of research is library research, which studies various books, journals and previous similar research results, which are useful for obtaining a theoretical basis for the problem to be studied. The conclusion of this article is the importance of standards and typologies of educators and educational staff in Islam in efforts to achieve an optimal educational process.

Abstract

Society and state are often used as the dominant object of human trafficking mafia syndicates (trafficking in persons). The modus operandi is also various, ranging from violent exploitation such as being employed as a sex worker (online or ordinary), cyber crime, marriage with a foreign man for the purpose of exploitation and illegal drug dealers, a matchmaking agency that is considered to be under the guise of sharia, and a serial marriage service provider, and even trafficking women with the modus operandi umrah. The purpose of this research is to discuss feminist interpretations of verses that hint at Human Traffickiing. The method carried out in this study is library research. The results of this research can be used to prevent the occurrence of Human Trafficking.

Abstract

Moral education has an important role in building individual character based on Islamic values. Surah Luqman verses 12-19 are the main reference in the Qur'an which contains the teachings of moral education. This research aims to analyze the concept of moral education as explained in Tafsir Al-Maraghi and its relevance in the context of modern education. This research approach is qualitative with a content analysis method. Data were collected through literature studies on Tafsir Al-Maraghi and other supporting works related to moral education. The results of the study show that Tafsir Al-Maraghi emphasizes moral values that include human relationships with Allah (hablum minallah), fellow humans (hablum minannas), and the environment. Al-Maraghi's interpretation of these verses highlights the role of parents, especially fathers, in providing moral education through consistent example, advice, and teaching. In addition, Tafsir Al-Maraghi emphasizes the importance of moral formation through self-control, sincerity, and responsibility. This research discussion connects the relevance of moral teachings in Tafsir Al-Maraghi with contemporary educational practices, especially in building character-based educational curricula. This study concludes that the tafsir of Al-Maraghi makes a significant contribution in formulating an applicable moral education strategy for today's young generation. Thus, the moral values in Surah Luqman verses 12-19 can be used as a basis for building an ethical and moral society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the principal's leadership strategies in enhancing teacher synergy at SDN 103 Coblong. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that the principal prioritizes a humanistic approach, characterized by open communication, exemplary behavior, and interpersonal support, to foster a harmonious working environment. Challenges faced include miscommunication, internal conflicts, and low teacher awareness of their respective roles. The implemented strategies positively impact collaboration, mutual trust, and teacher motivation, resulting in strong synergy to achieve educational goals. This study contributes to the development of educational leadership theories and offers practical guidance for principals in building effective teamwork.

Abstract

The focus of this research is how to describe the motivation to improve the performance of educators at MIN 2 Bandung City. The method used is a descriptive method with a quantitative approach which is further supported by a questionnaire as a data collection tool. The location of this research is Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 Bandung City with a sample of educators who served as research respondents. The results of this study illustrate that motivation has a sufficient influence on educator performance. As many as 50% of educators feel motivated, and there are 4.5% of educators who feel unmotivated to perform well. Regarding personal satisfaction with educator performance, 50% feel satisfied, 22.7% feel very satisfied, but there are 4.5% of educators who feel dissatisfied with their performance.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the history of the KBM ALS santri association organization, the activities of the KBM ALS santri association organization that are oriented towards character education and the character values ​​instilled in the activities of the KBM ALS santri association organization. This type of research is descriptive using a Qualitative approach. The informants of this study are administrators, advisors, coaches and alumni of the KBM ALS santri association organization. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews and documentation. Based on the results of this study it is known that the KBM ALS santri association organization was founded in the 1960s with the name IPMAL then changed its name to YAGAMAL and finally became KBM ALS until now. The activities of the KBM ALS santri association organization that are oriented towards character education consist of tabligh, yasinan, mudzakarah, deliberation, Commemoration of Islamic Holidays (PHBI), takziyah and regulation of the union law. There are 18 character values ​​instilled in the activities of the KBM ALS student association organization, namely: religious, honest, tolerant, disciplined, hard working, creative, independent, democratic, curiosity, national spirit, love of the homeland, respect for achievement, friendly/communicative, love of peace, love of reading, care for the environment, care for society and responsibility. This research is expected to be a motivation for students to increase their activeness in participating in their respective regional organizations because by actively participating in organizations it can shape good student character.

Abstract

The Independent Curriculum is a policy implemented to create more flexible education. This research aims to analyze the implementation of the independent curriculum at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 3 Tasikmalaya City, including the various challenges faced in implementing the independent curriculum, as well as efforts that can be used to face challenges to optimize its implementation. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach. A qualitative approach was used because this research aims to explore and understand phenomena that occur in the field in depth. The research results can provide an overview of curriculum implementation at MTsN 3 Tasikmalaya. In the process of implementing the Independent Curriculum at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 3 Tasikmalaya, various challenges were faced such as limited resources, resistance to change, and a lack of initial understanding from some teachers. Efforts made to overcome these challenges include intensive outreach, training through workshops and digital platforms such as the Ministry of Religion's Smart Mooc, as well as routine supervision that provides feedback to improve the quality of learning.
