Abstract

This study discusses the concept of travel (rihlah and safar) in the Qur'an with a thematic interpretation approach using Tafsir Al-Misbah by M. Quraish Shihab as the main source. The background of this study rests on the phenomenon of increasing human needs for travel activities as a form of physical and spiritual refreshment, especially in the face of modern life pressures. Traveling in an Islamic perspective is not only understood as a recreational activity, but also as a form of worship, knowledge seeking, and spiritual contemplation. This research uses a literature study method with a qualitative approach to examine the meaning and implementation of the verses of rihlah and safar comprehensively. The results show that the Qur'an provides guidance and relief for Muslims in the context of safar, both in the implementation of worship and social interaction. Quraish Shihab's interpretation emphasizes that Islam is a religion that is adaptive, easy, and responsive to the dynamics of human life, including in the context of travel. Thus, traveling in the Qur'an is not just a physical movement, but also a medium to increase faith, broaden horizons, and be grateful for the blessings of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of sharia stocks included in the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2024-2025 period. The phenomenon of sharia capital market growth reaching 22.81% year-to-date in August 2025 demonstrates the crucial role of Islamic principle-based investment in facing global market volatility. Using a quantitative approach, this research evaluates returns, volatility, and factors influencing sharia stock performance through analysis of five selected stocks (BRIS, UNVR, TLKM, ANTM, ADRO) from December 2024 to May 2025. The results indicate that sharia stocks in JII offer competitive returns with varying volatility, where TLKM shows the lowest volatility (8.39%) while ANTM and UNVR exhibit high volatility (21.26% and 29.41%). A surprising finding reveals that sharia stocks with lower volatility do not always provide optimal returns, yet offer superior stability compared to conventional stocks, especially during economic uncertainty. This study contributes a new perspective that integration of sharia compliance with ESG sustainability has proven to enhance long-term financial performance, challenging the conventional view that ethical investment sacrifices profitability. The research implications provide strategic recommendations for investors to diversify portfolios based on risk-adjusted returns, regulators to strengthen the ESG-Sharia framework, and issuers to increase sharia governance transparency to optimize the competitiveness of Indonesia's sharia capital market.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Abdurrahman An-Nahlawi's thoughts on Islamic education and examine their relevance to the challenges of contemporary Islamic education. The method used is a qualitative study with a literature study approach, with data sources in the form of An-Nahlawi's works. The results of the study indicate that education according to An-Nahlawi is sourced from the Qur'an and Sunnah as the main foundation in forming a complete Muslim personality, both spiritually, morally, intellectually, and socially. According to him, the Islamic education curriculum must be in harmony with human nature, flexible, realistic, and adapted to the conditions of students. An-Nahlawi also formulated psychologically based educational methods, such as the hiwar method, cerita, ibrah, and exemplary. The relevance of his thoughts to today's education lies in his comprehensive, integrative, and adaptive approach to developments in the era of globalization, while still maintaining Islamic values as the main foundation. This research makes an important contribution to efforts to re-ground the principles of authentic Islamic education amidst the challenges of the globalization era.

Abstract

This research explores the linguistic and theological controversies regarding the use of isim isharah (pointing words) dhalika and hadha in the Qur'an, especially in Surah Al-Baqarah. The phenomenon of using the word far point (dhalika) for objects that are close textually often gives rise to semantic debate. Using Toshihiko Izutsu's semantic theory which includes basic meaning, relational meaning, and weltanschauung, as well as examining Tafsir Al-Tanwir as a contemporary model of interpretation, this study aims to uncover the dimension  of honorific distance behind the choice of diction. The methodology used is qualitative-descriptive with a content analysis approach. The results of the study showed that the use of dhalika in Surah Al-Baqarah (dominance 51.4%) and hadha (11.4%). The dominance of dhalika is not just a spatial indicator, but an instrument of ta'zim (transcendence) that forms the worldview of monotheism. Tafsir Al-Tanwir implements this meaning through a rational-progressive approach, linking the authority of revelation to modern human consciousness through the concept of "meaningful distance".

Abstract

This study explores the humanistic and social values of Surah al-Hujurat through a phenomenological interpretation of the Qur’an. The phenomenological approach aims to understand the Qur’an not merely as a normative text, but as a lived reality that reveals human consciousness within social life. Surah al-Hujurat contains essential ethical principles of Islamic society such as tabayyun (verification of information), ukhuwah (brotherhood), the prohibition of mockery and backbiting, and human equality based on taqwa (piety). Through phenomenological analysis, these values are shown to represent existential awareness that connects human beings with divine and social realities. They constitute what is known as Qur’anic humanism a form of humanity rooted in monotheism (tawhid) and manifested in social ethics. The study concludes that a phenomenological reading of Surah al-Hujurat is relevant for fostering moral and social consciousness amid disinformation and ethical crises in the modern digital era. The main contribution of this study lies in offering a phenomenological reading model of Surah al-Hujurat that remains underexplored in prior tafsir scholarship, while proposing the conceptual framework of Qur’anic humanism as an alternative to the predominantly normative approaches that have characterized studies of its social verses.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model on the ability of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 28/IV in Jambi to understand Indonesian language materials, particularly in identifying main ideas, supporting arguments, and summarizing the reading content. A quantitative method and a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group were used. The study sample consisted of 56 students, categorized into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, and analyzed using normality tests, assessment of homogeneity of variance, and t-tests. The results showed that the pre-test score of the experimental group was 53.93, which increased to 87.50 in the post-test; the score of the control group increased from 54.29 to 71.79. Hypothesis testing revealed a significant difference in student performance before and after the implementation of the CIRC model. This indicates that the CIRC model surpasses conventional learning methods in improving students' reading ability. This study used a quasi-experimental design to implement the CIRC model in reading materials for fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 28/IV in Jambi, focusing on the main idea and supporting arguments of the text. This study conducted a comparative analysis between the experimental group and the control group in a real elementary school learning environment.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the educational values contained in the hadiths regarding reward and punishment in the book Asy-Syamail Al-Muhammadiyah by Imam Tirmidzi, and to analyze their relevance to the Discovery Learning model for adults (andragogy). The methodology employed is a qualitative approach using descriptive-analytical methods through a systematic literature review and conceptual analysis of both explicit and implicit hadith texts. The results indicate that the book provides authentic information regarding the Prophet Saw's practice of rewards, such as praise, provision of facilities, and enthusiasm, while punishment was administered through prohibitions, reprimands, warnings, or educational actions. These findings confirm a strong relevance between the reward and punishment methods exemplified by the Prophet and the operational steps of Discovery Learning, where appropriate motivation and consequences are essential to support the independence of adult learners in exploring and discovering concepts independently within the Merdeka Curriculum framework. The integration of these prophetic values significantly contributes to the development of a learning model that addresses not only cognitive aspects but also the formation of character or insan kamil.

Abstract

The discourse on women's public roles in Islam is often trapped in a polarization between patriarchal classical interpretations and contemporary feminist critiques. This study aims to analytically compare the thoughts of two prominent Muslim intellectuals, Yusuf al-Qardawi and Asghar Ali Engineer, regarding the legitimacy of women's participation in the public sphere. Utilizing a qualitative research method through library research and a comparative content analysis model, this study dissects the primary works of both figures as the basis for analysis. The findings indicate that both al-Qardawi and Engineer share a similar commitment to supporting women's public rights through a reinterpretation of texts responsive to modern changes. However, a significant methodological divergence exists. Al-Qardawi employs a wasathiyyah (moderate) approach based on maqasid al-shari’ah that maintains the authority of the usul fikih tradition, while Engineer applies a critical-contextual hermeneutics that deconstructs the text through the lens of historical materialism and liberation theology.
