Abstract

Potential crustacean resources in Palabuhanratu Bay are quite abundant, but traditional krendet traps are less effective because they lack protection and space dimensions. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of 1-door and 2-door of 2-deck hoopnet trap on crustacean catches. The experimental fishing method was conducted using 3 units of 1-door and 3 units of 2-door of 2-deck hoopnet traps for 20 trips in the waters of Palabuhanratu Bay. Data collected included the number, weight, and type of crustaceans caught. Data analysis used the Mann-Whitney non-parametric test to compare catches between the two trap types. The results showed that the 2-door had a higher number and weight of catches than the 1-door, with a production margin of 43.48% for number of fish and 69.49% for weight (kg). The dominant species was star crab (Portunus sanguinolentus), with more fingerlings caught in the 2-door of 2-deck hoopnet trap. Although statistical tests showed insignificant differences, the productivity of 2-door of 2-deck hoopnet traps tended to be better. In conclusion, the use of 2-door of 2-deck hoopnet traps is more effective in increasing crustacean catches and is recommended for use by fishers in the study area. Abstract

Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics (FRP) boats are an alternative for fishing boats, providing durability, strength, and ease of production. This study aims to explain the production stages, material requirements, costs estimation, and business feasibility of constructing a 9-meter FRP boat at CV. Roni Marine Boatyard. The research was conducted through direct observation of the the boat construction process, interviews with boatyard staff, measurement of boat dimensions, and cost and financial analysis. The results show that production starts with preparation, fiberglass lamination, installation of wooden parts on the sheer, demolding, installation of internal frames and structural reinforcements, and final finishing. The estimated production cost of one boat unit is IDR 14,364,657. Financial analysis indicates an annual profit of IDR 218,120,568, with an R/C ratio of 1.25, B/C ratio of 1.253, IRR of 124%, a payback period of 0.80 years, and a break-even point of 48 units, demonstrating that the business is feasible and profitable. Abstract

Previous research on comparing 2-decks hoopnet traps compared to traditional hoopnet traps with frozen bait boosters demonstrated an increase in crustacean catch yields. The present study represents a further development of that earlier work. This research was conducted to determine differences in catch composition and to assess the catch productivity and fishing effectiveness of 2-decks hoopnet traps with frozen bait boosters (treatment) compared to 2-decks hoopnet traps without frozen bait boosters (control). Data analysis methods employed included descriptive analysis, normality testing, and productivity assessment. Catch composition for the treatment and control 2-decks hoopnet traps, respectively, was as follows: 61.1% and 38.9% for blue swimmer crab (Portunus pelagicus), 55.7% and 44.3% for batik crab, and 60% and 40% for ornate rock lobster. Operation of the treatment 2-decks hoopnet traps under a colony system yielded a greater influence on and a higher number of crustacean catches compared to the control across all trips throughout the study period. Overall catch from the treatment 2-decks hoopnet traps was higher than that of the control. The fishing effectiveness of the treatment 2-decks hoopnet traps relative to the control exceeded 40% in both weight (kg) and number (individuals). Abstract

Hairtail fish longline fishers in Palabuhanratu make fishing their primary occupation and source of income for their families. However, fishers face various challenges by unstable incomes due to seasonal fluctuations in catchs, low levels of education, and lack of alternative livelihoods. Therefore, this study aims to describe layur longline fisheries activities to classify and analyze the welfare levels of layur longline fishers using parameters from the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN). The research methods included observation and structured interviews, as well as snowball sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, welfare analysis according to BKKBN parameters, and Spearman rank correlation analysis to identify indicators that most influence welfare. The results show that layur longline fisheries in Palabuhanratu utilize 3 GT vessels with the main catch being hairtail fish (Trichirus sp.). Hairtail fish longline fishers in Palabuhanratu are categorized as Pre-Prosperous Families 6%, Prosperous Families I 53%, Prosperous Families II 38%, and Prosperous Families III 3%. There are three indicators that most influence the level of welfare with a moderate to very strong relationship, namely indicators 10, 11, and 9, the very strong relationship is in indicator 10 with a correlation coefficient of 0.804.
