Abstract

The significant development of ethnomatematics is expected to give a role to the nation's progress. The purpose of this research is to describe the role of ethnomatematics as one of the strength of national identity. The method used in this research is literature study by going through several stages: problem formulation, literature search, data evaluation, analysis, and interpretation. The results show that etnomatematics can present a lot of intellectual property which is largely a nation culture preserved centuries, so as to strengthen identity as a nation that has a great civilization.

Abstract

The critical thinking skill is one of the skills that students need to have in the present century. However, this skill is not fully owned by students. This article aims to describe the mathematics learning activities based on ethnomatematics in relation to foster students' critical thinking skill. The method used in this research is research of library research (library research). The data in this study is secondary data in the form of research results such as scientific books, scientific journals, research reports, and other relevant sources. Data analysis techniques used in the study include three stages: organize, synthesize, and identify. The results of literature studies show that by selecting appropriate cultural content, ethnomatmatic-based mathematics learning has relevance to indicators on critical thinking skills, which include interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and decision making. Thus, the learning of mathematics based on ethnomatematics can be used as one of mathematics learning alternative to develop students' critical thinking ability.

Abstract

Kajian ini dilatarbelakangi dari hasil diskusi dengan guru, data awal berupa tes kemampuan kognitif dan pengamatan di kelas tentang masalah yang sering dihadapi dalam pembelajaran matematika terkait vektor. Masalah yang muncul antara lain: siswa kurang mampu memahami konsep matematika pada materi vektor. Siswa cenderung dapat mengerjakan soal sesuai dengan contoh yang diberikan namun kurang mampu  mengerjakan soal yang berbeda dengan contoh. Hal ini disebabkan pembelajaran matematika materi vektor yang berlangsung di sekolah masih bersifat informatif dan abstrak, sehingga pemahaman konsep pada materi vector kurang dipahami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan desain pembelajaran materi vektor yang dapat  meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematika pada materi vector yang didasrakan pada hasil analisis hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) terhadap kemampuan kognitif siswa. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dengan jumlah sampel 30 siswa di SMA Negeri 2 Kabupaten Tangerang. Hasil penelitian memberikan informasi untuk kajian penelitian selanjutnya dalam upaya pengembangan desain didaktik yang dihipotesiskan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa pada materi vektor.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the achievement and improvement of students' mathematical problem solving skills using learning approaches Realistic Mathematics Education, as well as to know the attitude of students using the approach of learning Realistic Mathematics Education. The research method is quasi experiment with Nonequivalent group pretest-postest design. The experimental class gained learning with the approach of Realistic Mathematics Education and control class with ordinary learning. The population of the study were students of class VIII MTs Negeri 1 Cianjur. The samples used as many as 2 classes from eight classes were chosen by purposive sampling technique. To get the data of research result used the test instrument of mathematical problem solving ability and student questionnaire. Data processing achievement of students 'mathematical problem solving ability using percentage of students posttest score, improvement of students' mathematical problem solving ability using Mann-Whitney, student attitude data using percentage of questionnaire answer each student. Based on data analysis, the achievement of students' mathematical problem solving ability using the approach of Realistic Mathematics Education is very low, the achievement of students using the usual learning is very low, the improvement of students' mathematical problem solving skills using the Realistic Mathematics Education approach is better than the improvement of students' mathematical problem solving ability using ordinary learning with medium category, and student attitude toward learning using Realistic Mathematics Education approach is mostly positive.Keywords: Approach to Realistic Mathematical Education (RME), Mathematical Problem Solving.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process and results of the development of mathematical LKPD and the quality of LKPD with the inquiry and culture of Jambi. This study uses the Research and Development (R & D) method that is used to produce certain products, namely developing mathematical LKPD. The development model used in this study is the ADDIE. In this development research there are two validators consisting of material expert validator test, learning design expert validator and media test, and also the user target of this product is IX grade junior high school students. The type of data taken in this study is in the form of qualitative data and quantitative data. The instruments used in the study were questionnaires and test results. The results of the study obtained an increase in students' mathematical creative thinking skills in the medium category based on the gain test seen that the score obtained was 0.4 in the medium criteria and students expressed a positive response to the developed LKPD. It can be concluded that mathematical LKPD developed very well and can improve students' creative mathematical thinking skills. Therefore this LKPD can be used by teachers and students in the learning process in the material to construct curved side spaces so that learning is more effective and obtains better learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate whether the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who get cooperative learning think pair square type is higher than students who get conventional learning. The research method used is a quasi-experimental method with a research design that is nonequivalent control group design. In this study sample selection using the Convenience Sampling technique is students of class VIII.5 as the control class and students of class VIII.6 as the experimental class. Experimental class students get learning using the think pair square learning model, while students in the control class get conventional learning. The instruments in this study were in the form of pretest and posttest questions in the form of questions describing the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts. In the research that has been done, the significance (sig.) 0,000 is smaller than the significance level α = 0.05. The research hypothesis testing was carried out by the Mann-Whitney test using SPSS and a significance level of 5% (α = 0.05).. In this study it was found that the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who received think pair square learning was higher than students who obtained conventional learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in the improvement of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in the classroom with investigation group learning assisted by projects and conventional learning classes. This study included quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent control group research design. All mathematical problem-solving abilities of class VII students in one of the junior high Schools were the population in this study. Two classes were taken as samples, namely the experimental class applying the project-assisted investigation group and the control class that applied conventional learning. The question of mathematical problem-solving ability was used as an instrument in this study. Data on mathematical problem-solving ability from pretest and posttest then determined normalized gain average between two classes and analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the improvement of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in the class applying project-assisted group learning was better than students in the class applying conventional learning, but the average increase in the two classes was in the moderate classification. So that project-assisted investigation group learning can be used as an alternative to improve the students' mathematical problem-solving skills in junior high school.

Abstract

The smart phone can be used for various functions, one of which is multimedia of education. However, it is still very rare for smart phone users with Android operating system especially high school students who use their smartphones as multimedia of education. This study aims to develop multimedia of mathematics education based on Android with the name JiMath for high school students and to determine the response of students and the level of effectiveness of the multimedia education mathematics developed. The subjects of the experiments as well as the targets in this study were the students of class X IPA 6 SMAN 2 Cianjur which amounted to 32 students. The method used is research and development with ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The result of the research shows that the multimedia of mathematics education based on android developed by the media expert meets the Very Eligible category with the percentage reaching 81%. Meanwhile, according to the material expert meets the Eligible category with a percentage of 65.83%. Then for the effectiveness of multimedia education developed according to respondents meet the Eligible category with the percentage reached 74.1%. So that the multimedia of mathematics education based on Android is effectively used as a supporting multimedia of education for students who can use anytime and anywhere.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the students’ learning outcomes, students’ activities and students’ response of Osborn model with the Brainstorming technique using the matlab application in the numerical method subjects, especially in the roots of nonlinear equations material. This research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were 6 students of sixth semester. Data collected are through observation of student activities, test questions and student response sheets. While data analysis techniques are carried out using the mean and percentage formulas. The results showed that at the 1st meeting the mean student activity reached 84,5%, the second meeting reached 95,2%, and the 3rd meeting reached 98,2%. Student learning outcomes are the lowest 81 and the highest is 93.5. While the percentage of student responses 93.3% is very good category. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that Osborn Learning Model with the Brainstorming technique by applying matlab application is effective on student learning outcomes in numerical method subjects.

Abstract

The objectives of the study: 1. examine questions related to Quantitative Reasoning; 2. It is expected that questions related to Quantitative Reasoning can be given and trained to students. The indicators show a student have problem solving skills are: 1. Understanding the problem; 2. Determine the right settlement strategy; 3. Implement the chosen strategy; 4. Determine the solution to the problem; 5. Checking the accuracy of the strategy and the correctness of the solutions. The results showed that students with upper, middle and lower ability at the stage of problem solving were described by gathering information obtained from the questions. In the upper subject, it works quite well. This is due to the functioning of the Quantitative Reasoning component in solving problems.. Whereas in the lower subject, it also occurs incomplete. This is due to the malfunctioning component of information reception.
