Abstract

Nowadays, authentic materials are considered as important tools for the teachers in improving their EFL students language skills and moreover as an effective way in transmitting the knowledge to the students. In this paper, the writer will discuss more about how the authentic materials use can improve students’ four language skills since there are number of studies proved that authentic materials is useful in motivating and improving their language skills. Furthermore, this paper also will show the effectiveness of authentic materials applied on listening, speaking, reading, and writing classes.

Abstract

Syntax is the study of the principles and processes by which sentence that it is constructed in particular language. Whereas that every language in the world certainly has different structure. This research aim to answer: (1) What are kinds of simple sentence found in Kembhang Babur books? (2) What are the differences between English and Madurese in simple sentences? This research is a descriptive qualitative research, descriptively describing the syntactic structures of simple sentences in Kembhang Babur book. The writer followed the rule of the qualitative which the data describe in words as the basis of interpreting data. Words are of utmost importance to qualitative researchers. There are three kinds of simple sentences found in Kembhang Babur book could be classified into: (a) Affirmative sentences, (b) Negative sentences (c) Interrogative sentences. The differences in English sentence is; if this affirmative sentence Aux there is after NP, but in the interrogative sentence Aux there is before NP and there is auxiliary “do/does” as interrogative verb. In Madurese sentence is marked by the addition of the word “apah” which is put before NP. “Apah” is as question word in Madurese, not as an auxiliary.

Abstract

Error may appear when students put the English grammatical incorrectly. Errors is mostly occurred in English as the foreign or second language. The aim of this study is describing kinds of errors are made by the seventh semester students of English department in Madura University on the use of simple past tense in a translated narrative text. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The subject is seventh semester students of English department which consist of 15 students. The instruments used is translating test. The data is analyzed by collecting the data from students, identifying the errors based on its grammatical errors, classifying them into errors classification, and calculated them into percentage. The results showed that the students' errors can be classified into four kinds of errors, which are 25% for omission errors, 5.36% for addition errors, 62.5% for missed formation errors, and 7.14% for missed ordering errors. There are total 56 errors occurred which is dominated by missed ordering errors. The teachers recommended to make a clear understanding related to differentiate grammatical differences between Indonesia and English. Further, students need to practice it more often. The other researchers can provide techniques to increase students’ English grammatical understanding, especially in simple past tense usage.

Abstract

Dictation is one of techniques in learning foreign language. Understanding dictation is not always easy for students. An English lecturer should choose suitable techniques to teach them in order not to make students bored because she is one of the factors that determines whether the teaching learning process will be successful or not. The lecturer has to be able to apply various techniques in teaching English because the students prefer listening and writing an easy text. So, the lecturer can use correction techniques like shadow dictation and passing the buck.

Abstract

One of factors for student success in speaking ability is to use their listening ability, because Listening is play important in development process of speaking ability. therefore, this research aimed to finding out the correlation between students’ listening skill and speaking ability.This research applied a correlation study and used a quantitative design, the subject were 22 students of English Department second semester Madura University. There are two instruments to collect the data on this research. (1) essay test was used to get the data of their listening skill. (2) interview was used to get the data of their speaking ability.Person correlation product moment and SPSS version 26 program is used to analysis the data. Abstract

This Community Benefit (PKM) points to make strides English dialect abilities through the TOEFL educating program for Al-Amien Bugih Tall School understudies. One of the components behind this PKM is that these understudies have never gotten TOEFL fabric. In expansion, they moreover don't know what aptitudes are tried on the TOEFL. The strategies utilized in this PKM are (1) Arrangement (by conducting a needs investigation through FGD with an English instructor), (2) Giving fabric (utilizing address, introduction, address and reply strategies, as well as hone questions and talks), and (3) assessment of the victory of PKM (by holding a TOEFL Like-Test). Abstract

The Community Service (PkM) activity carried out by the Madura University PKM team with the theme "Changing literacy culture into a learning environment at SDS Al-Amien Pamekasan Pamekasan" was carried out by the Madura University community service team involving teachers to learn more about the dynamics and growth of reading gardens to then further encourage the reading tradition or the reading culture of the community. society to develop as students in modern times in the future.  The activity which lasted for three days succeeded in providing soft skills and motivation to teachers and students of SDS Al-Amien Pamekasan. The proposal for this training is the need for all parties to participate in supporting the program so that the younger generation in particular and the community have a literacy culture and become learners in all the developments of life to grow bigger. In addition to deep motivation for the younger generation and society, it is also important for students to be able to fulfill their potential by developing a reading culture, especially how to read and deliver literary works effectively. Abstract

The objectives of the study: 1. examine questions related to Quantitative Reasoning; 2. It is expected that questions related to Quantitative Reasoning can be given and trained to students. The indicators show a student have problem solving skills are: 1. Understanding the problem; 2. Determine the right settlement strategy; 3. Implement the chosen strategy; 4. Determine the solution to the problem; 5. Checking the accuracy of the strategy and the correctness of the solutions. The results showed that students with upper, middle and lower ability at the stage of problem solving were described by gathering information obtained from the questions. In the upper subject, it works quite well. This is due to the functioning of the Quantitative Reasoning component in solving problems.. Whereas in the lower subject, it also occurs incomplete. This is due to the malfunctioning component of information reception.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to investigate the six steps take place during the process of teaching writing through group investigation and to identify the benefits that the students obtained from writing through group investigation. The results of the study revealed that the teaching writing by using group investigation can improve students’ ability in writing paragraph. Specifically, they showed some improvement on process of writing and vocabulary. Abstract

Politeness is a way to convey expressions smoothly, nicely and politely in verbal communication. Politeness is also required to be carried out in official forums such as the learning and teaching process in the classroom. In this case, the researcher is interested and raises the title of violation from the maxim of politeness in language teaching and learning interactions in the seventh semester students. The purpose of this study is to describe objectively the politeness maxims violated by teacher or students in the class interaction. This research is a qualitative research and the source of data in this study is in the form of conversations between students and teachers that have been copied or converted into written form. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the deviation of politeness maxims in teaching and learning interactions occurs in all politeness maxims, namely the maxim of wisdom, maxim of generosity, maxim of praise, maxim of humility, maxim of agreement, and maxim of sympathy. The maxim that most violated appear in wisdom maxim, generosity maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim with three violation of each. While the violation that occurs the least is the maxim of humility which only appears once. Violations from these maxims occur due to various behaviors, such as giving harm to others, having bad thoughts, criticizing and putting others down, self-effacing, and showing antipathy towards others
