Abstract

Temilok (Bactronophorus thoracites) is one of Teredinidae or family of wood-borer shellfish in fact have a fairly high polysaccharide content, particularly interesting source of glycogen. The object of this experiment is to investigate the impurity contents (nitrogenous compounds and nucleic acids) of extracted glycogen from low quality of temilok based on Nicoletti and Baiocchi glycogen polysaccharide extraction patent method by comprising boiling the whole tissue in an aqueous solution of 40% potassium hydroxide (KOH) and treated with 12% cationic resin Amberlite IR-120 carried out for 16 hours under stirring at room temperature, and the ability of the extracted glycogen as co-precipitant in the precipitation of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of human femur. Nitrogen and nucleic acid content of extracted glycogen were spectrophotometrically measured at 260 nm, 280 nm and 320 nm. Extracted glycogen samples was characterized by determining the glucose content quantitatively using phenol-sulphate method which measured spectrophotometrically at 490 nm . The nitrogen content of extracted glycogen was about 0,8%, yield about 6,5% glycogen characterized as the lowest nucleic acids content i.e 0,07 mg/mL. In order to asses the ability of the extracted glycogen as carrier or co-precipitant of low copy number DNA, we added 20 µL the 2% solution of the extracted glycogen into first step of femur DNA procedure of precipitation. Results revealed that by adding the extracted glycogen solutions, the yield of DNA were not significantly affected at the level of 0,05 though the yield of DNA decreased against blanko about 0,005 ng/µL of 0,0401 ng/µL

Abstract

Abstract

Patin (Pangasius pangasius) and Dumbo catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is being semi intensively cultured on floating net; in the lakes of tin mining activity called Kolong; by farmers in Bacang village, subdistrict of Bukit Intan, Pangkalpinang regency. This spesies is best suited for culture in kolong because of their well adapted of environmental change; even in a size-limited ponds; for growing normally. Kolong should be the decades in one age. Feeding Patin (Pangasius pangasius) and Dumbo catfish (Clarias gariepinus) cultured with this method should more profitable if we substitute the formulated meals (pellets) with chicken guts, as the alternative feed. The main differences would be on their variabel cost, profit value, Break Event Point (BEP), Return of Invesment (ROI) and Benefit Cost Ratio (B/C)

Abstract

Nowadays, the chemical ingredients of several additional foods had known as carcinogenic materials. To avoid that, some kind of natural materials are used to be an alternative which it safe and had a lot of important function because of their bioactive essences. Some of them are curcuma ginger and union. This research is done to prove the advantages of using natural additional nutrition from curcuma ginger and union’s essences for African catfish growth performance. The survival and growth performance of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) fingerlings fed with natural additional nutrition from curcuma ginger and union’s essences raising better than normally nursery. After 45 days rearing period, the percentage fingerling survival for the treatment is 98.33% better than control that only 86.67%. Fingerlings with treatment had the greatest average daily growth, mean body weight, and final average length and was significantly different (p<0.05) from control. Beside of that, the treatment with additional nutrition has undirectly effect to water balance system. This treatment could stabilize the water pH on rearing aquarium.

Abstract

White leg shrimp is one of 110 Penaeid species which have more profitable chances to cultivate. These shrimp could produce 10 – 20 tons per Ha compare with tiger prawn that only produce 2 – 5 tons per Ha. White leg shrimp could be harvested less than 120 days, and it more resist to the disease, not only that, the other advantages of these shrimp was its habit that live at all over the teritorial of the media so that it can be cultivate with higher density. The optimal result or product from brackishwater pond cultivation is according to how the technical nursery was done. Water quality was the most important point that must be checked and controled to gain the optimal production. The following fertilization was an alternative way to stabilize the water quality especially in traditional pond. This manner could make the bio-organism such as fitoplankton and benthos as white leg shrimp’s natural food grow continously. The study was done with four different doses of the following fertilization (2,5%, 5%, 7,5%, and 10% from forward fertilization). After 86 days rearing period, the best following fertilization shown with the dose 5% from forward fertilization. Water quality such pH, ammonium, sulfic acid and dissolved oxygen with this manner reached the best condition and significantly different from the other (p<0,05 for dissolved oxygen and sulfic acid; and p<0,01 for pH and ammonium). In spite of the water quality, the pond with 5% following fertilization got the best result of harvesting. This manner had the greatest biomass, and average body weight and was high significantly different from the other (p<0,01) The survival rate was got the highest mark although its not significantly different from the test (74,147%) and so as the average daily growth (0,194 gr per day).

Abstract

Bangka Belitung Islands Province is one of the tin-producing areas, where tin mining activities are always leaving degradation the soil, vegetation and wastes that are toxic, especially some heavy metals such as Pb, Cu and Zn in soil and in the former tin mine excavation called kolong. Greatly affect the quality of waste water and cause pollution, it is feared could extend to land and waters around so that endanger residents. Based on the results of research conducted on the measurement of three former tin mining at different age levels (0, ±8, and> 15 years), it can be concluded that the older age, so the content of heavy metals (Cu, Pb and Zn) is decrease. This is caused by several factors, such as the ability of aquatic plants (Lepiromia micronata) which accumulate heavy metals and other factors such as rain water dilution and precipitation. The results showed that endemic plants can absorb heavy metals. Therefore, heavy metal reduction of tin mining in Bangka Island using phytoremediation method by aquatic plant, because it is relatively inexpensive, easy and environmentally friendly.
