Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on students' mathematics learning outcomes at grade IV of SD Negeri 173418 Pollung in Academic Year 2019/2020. The population of this research was all students of SD Negeri 173418 Pollung, consisting of 362 students, while the samples were selected by purposive sampling technique and the researchers chose grade IV, consisting of 40 students as samples in this study. In this research, the researchers used a quantitative method similar to survey. Then, the hypotheses were tested by using t test. The results of this research indicated that the average value of students’ emotional intelligence was 87.9 with Fair category and the average score of learning outcome was 71.375 with Less category. This was supported by the results of t test in which the value of tcount > ttable which was 1.703 > 1.677. Thus, Ha was accepted, indicating that there was a significant influence of emotional intelligence on the students’ mathematics learning outcomes at grade IV SD Negeri 173418 Pollung Academic Year 2019/2020.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the fact that many students could not read fluently at the beginning and were not able to understand the teacher’s instructions in learning. Through this research, it was expected that word card media could promote students’ pre-reading skills. This research was a classroom action research conducted at grade 2 SDN 21 Mandau. The subjects of this research were 21 students consisting of 12 male students and 9 female students. The data were obtained through reading tests and observations of learning activities. The results in the first cycle showed that the average score of the students’ reading skills was 68.88, in which 13 students reached the KKM. This meant that 61.90% of the students reached the predetermined KKM. Then, in cycle II, the average score of the students' pre-reading skills became 77.46, in which the total number of students reaching the KKM was 18 students with a percentage of 85.71%. Based on the results of this research, it was concluded that the students’ pre-reading skills increased through the use of word cards.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve students’ learning activities and learning outcomes through two cycles of action. An initial test was conducted before the implementation of the learning process. The total score in the pre-cycle was 2390, increased to 2885 in cycle I, and further increased to 3070 in cycle II. Meanwhile, the average score in the pre-cycle was 68.29, which increased to 78.92 in cycle I and to 87.71 in cycle II. These scores were measured based on the minimum learning mastery criterion (KKM) of 80. In the pre-cycle, only 8 students (22.86%) achieved the KKM, while 27 students (77.14%) did not. In cycle I, 24 students (68.57%) reached the KKM, and 11 students (31.43%) had not yet achieved mastery. Furthermore, in cycle II, 34 students (97.14%) reached the KKM, and only 2.86% of students did not. The highest score in the pre-cycle was 85 and the lowest was 45, while in cycle I the highest score increased to 95 and the lowest score to 75. Based on the range and criteria of scores, the percentage in the pre-cycle was 31.43% (enough), increased to 37.14% (very high) in cycle I, and further increased to 51.43% (very high) in cycle II. In addition, students’ learning activities also increased in each cycle, reaching 71.43% in cycle I and 85.71% in cycle II. It can be concluded that the jigsaw method was effective in improving learning activities and students’ learning outcomes in class XII IPS of SMA Negeri 10 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve students' problem solving ability. For this reason, teachers were required to create learning that accommodated the stages to achieve learning objectives in the form of drawing conclusions through hypotheses and data collection. One of the appropriate learning models for this purpose was inquiry learning. This study was conducted in class VI B of SDN 9 Mandau and carried out from March to April 2019. The method used in this study was classroom action research, which included the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The instrument used in this study was observation sheets. The results revealed that the students’ problem solving ability in the first cycle was 73.37 with a total classical completeness of 62.96%, in which only 17 students reached the KKM. In cycle II, the students' problem solving ability increased to 81.01 and the total classical completeness reached 92.59%, meaning that 25 students achieved the predetermined KKM. Based on these results, it was concluded that the inquiry learning model improved students’ problem solving abilities in grade VI B of SDN 9 Mandau.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the finding that the learning process between teachers and students occurred in one-way directions. It was also initiated by the lack of learning that build students' abilities, skills, and creativity. By assisting the teachers, it was hoped that they would be able to design effective learning in order to make students active in the learning process, one of which was somatic, auditory, visual, and intellectual (SAVI) learning. This research was a school action research involving stages of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. This research was conducted to 6 teachers of SDN 009 Teluk Kiambang. The instrument used was the observation sheet. The results showed that in the first cycle the teacher's ability was 65.83 with Sufficient category, while in the second cycle it increased to 79.16, which was in Good category. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the ability of teachers at SDN 009 Teluk Kiambang to develop SAVI learning model increased after getting the assistance from the principal as a researcher.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the large number of students who found it difficult to understand the concept of mathematics because mathematics was generally an abstract subject. For this reason, the teacher must strive for learning to be concrete by applying learning that could relate the concept to the students’ real life. One of the efforts was implementing contextual teaching and learning approach to present learning that linked abstract concepts to the students' daily life. The type of this research was classroom action research conducted in class IV/A SDN 003 Sungai Salak. The number of research subjects was 24 students. The instrument used in this research was a multiple-choice test. The results showed that students' understanding of mathematical concepts in the first cycle was 68.61, in which 17 students reached the KKM (70.83%). In cycle II, the students' understanding of mathematical concepts increased to 71.11 with the classical completeness of 83.33%, in which as many as 20 students achieved the specified completeness (KKM). In conclusion, the implementation of contextual teaching and learning approach improved the students’ understanding of the mathematical concepts at grade IV/A of SDN 003 Sungai Salak on the subject of circumference and area of simple flat shapes.
