Abstract

Several previous investigative activities in the Dolok Pangkuruhan area, Dairi Regency, North Sumatra Province have discovered several locations of gold and base metal mineralization. This article discusses the characteristics of alteration and mineralization of gold and base metals based on the results of investigations in 2023 with the aim of determining the characteristics of alteration and mineralization as well as a deposit type model. The research methods used include semi-detailed geological mapping, alteration and mineralization, XRD analysis, spectral analysis, mineralography, and fluid inclusion analysis. The alteration that develops consists of: argillic, advanced argillic, phyllic-pyrite and phyllic-silicification. There are four types of mineralization: a. Au-galena veins (Dolok Pangkuruhan) which are characterized by the presence of native gold and crystalline and colloform vein textures; b. Galena mineralization, sphalerite (Aek Sulfi), with massive and banded texture characteristics; c. quartz-silicification-sphalerite-galena vein (Sembilin River); d. quartz-bornite-chalcopyrite vein (Sikiring- kiring River). The results of fluid inclusion analysis are interpreted as epithermal deposits with mineralization formation temperatures ranging from 240°C – 346°C. Based on paragenetic sequence analysis, the mineralization characteristics can be interpreted as a model of polymetallic deposits (Au-Pb and Zn-Pb-Cu) of medium - high sulphide epithermal vein type.

Abstract

This research activity aims to estimate the potential and utilization of geothermal energy for direct use in Prospect Leles, Cianjur Regency, by applying technical instructions on calculating the potential and utilization of geothermal energy for direct use. The Leles prospect has eight heat sources for direct utilization of geothermal energy: five hot springs, one hot water drilled well, and two hot water bathing pools. Two pools are categorized as utilized, with the installed capacity of one hot spring with proven reserves. Meanwhile, the remaining five hot springs are still categorized as measurable resources. The total installed capacity of the two hot spring pools is 38.85 kWt with an annual utilization of 1.23 TJoules per year or ~0.34 GWh per year with an estimated capacity factor of 33.3%. With this capacity, the ratio of installed capacity to proven reserves is still very small, only 1.41%. Meanwhile, the total potential of the Leles Prospect is 3.3 MWt with details of proven reserves of 2,592 kWt and measured resources of 704 kWt. The recommendation for direct use is to increase the utilization installation, either in parallel, a pool can be made for swimming, bathing, and a jacuzzi, and in cascading with aquaculture, such as shrimp or catfish.

Abstract

Geothermal energy is renewable and can be used as an energy reserve in the future. This research aims to determine locations that have geothermal potential in the Air Putih Tourism area, Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province based on resistivity values using the magnetoteluric method. The resistivity values obtained vary from low, medium, and high which can be used as a reference to describe subsurface conditions. In this data acquisition, measurements were made using the ADU-07e Magnetotelurik tool which has a measurement time of 16 hours with a low frequency bandwidth of 128 Hz, a medium frequency bandwidth of 1024 Hz, and a high frequency bandwidth of 4096 Hz. The sensor in the recording has two sensors: a magnetic sensor and an electrical sensor. The magnetic sensor consists of 3 sensors/coils (Hx, Hy, and Hz), while the electrical sensor uses 4 orthogonally placed pot shafts (Ex and Ey). Based on the results of data processing using the Magnetoteluric method with ZondMT software, there is a range of resistivity values of 10-700 (Ωm) which provides information on the structure of the subsurface layer. Layers with low resistivity (18-30 Ωm), medium resistivity (40-160 Ωm) and the highest resistivity (>300 Ωm).

Abstract

The estimation of mineral resources is crucial in mining, particularly in determining production targets, pit design, and investment decisions. Accurate resource estimation results will facilitate optimal mine planning. The objective of this study is the application of estimation techniques that consider geostatistics, namely ordinary kriging, in estimating bauxite deposit resources. The research location is in the laterite arc of West Kalimantan. The data used for estimation are exploration data from 212 test pit locations. The aim of this study is to identify the lithology of the bauxite deposit, distribution of grades, and estimate bauxite resources as well as determine the optimal spacing of test pits as a basis for resource classification in the study area. Petrographic analysis was conducted on four samples to determine the lithology. The study results indicate that the lithology forming the bauxite deposit consists of granodiorite, quartz diorite, and granite. The bauxite deposits in the study area are predominantly derived from granodiorite with high content, thus characterizing the bauxite as kaolinitic bauxite. The bauxite resource estimation results, based on a cut-off grade of >35%, <8%, dan ≤30%, amounted to 722,720 tons of washed bauxite, with an average grade of 39,78% , dan 25,05% , with a concretion factor of 48.44%. The inferred washed bauxite resources are 146,962 tons, the indicated resources are 550,482 tons, and the measured resources are 221,643 tons. Based on the sill variogram calculation, the optimal spacing for test pits for bauxite exploration in the study area with resource classification is 100 m for inferred, 50 m for indicated, and 25 m for measured resources.

Abstract

The research is located in Cihaur, Sukabumi, West Java, occupied by the Jampang Formation, located in the Sunda-Banda Arc. The magmatic activity and complex tectonic setting in the arc have the potential to cause mineralization, resulting in several types of ore deposits such as porphyry, epithermal and skarn. The objectives of this research are to identify alteration, mineralization, and ore deposit types in the research area. The research methodology includes exploration drilling, alteration mapping, and laboratory analysis using XRD, petrography, and mineragraphy methods. Alteration of the research area consists of argillic alteration (illite, kaolin, and smectite), propylitic alteration (chlorite, epidote, and calcite), marbellized (95% calcite), and skarnization (clinopyroxene, wollastonite, chlorite-skarn, and epidote-skarn). In the skarn there are indications of a prograde stage characterized by pyroxene and wollastonite minerals, and a retrograde stage characterized by epidote, calcite, and chlorite minerals. Mineralization of the research area consists of galena, sphalerite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite. The presence of pyroxene and wollastonite minerals, as well as galena and sphalerite indicate that the skarn formed in the intermediate to distal zone.

Abstract

Exploration by PT Aneka Tambang in 1981 identified several promising mineral prospects in West Java, categorized as low- to high-sulfidation epithermal types. One such prospect is the Arinem area in Garut, which became the focus of this study. Spanning 0.46 km², this area is located 45 km from Garut city. The data used in this research include field data and core samples from seven boreholes provided by PT ANTAM Tbk. This study aims to understand the geological and hydrothermal alteration processes of the region using field work measurements, petrographic, mineralographic, and ASD specTERRA The study area consists of volcanic and volcaniclastic units, intruded by Pyroxene Andesite and Hornblende Andesite, with prominent hydrothermal alteration zones. The geological structures include the Left-Lateral Arinem Fault and the Right-Normal Arinem Fault, both of which control hydrothermal processes. Minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, and sphalerite were identified, with mineral veins trending north – south. The results suggest that Arinem is a part of an en-echelon structure arrays part of a larger left lateral strike slip system in West Java that cross-cut by the younger NE – SW dextral faults. This provides crucial insight into the geology, subsurface alteration and mineralization distribution, highlighting its significance for ongoing exploration efforts.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest nickel producing countries in the world. One of the nickel producing areas in Indonesia is in the Loji Beach area. This research area is located on Obi Island, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. Geologically, the research area is composed of ultramafic rocks. This research aims to determine the characteristics of nickel laterite and its relationship with geological conditions in the research area using petrographic methods of rock samples and XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) geochemistry of drilling samples. Geochemical data in the form of Ni content from drill data was interpolated using the IDW method using ArcGIS software. Based on research results, Ni-laterite is abundant in the morphology of gentle hills with a slope of 0-7%. The base rock bearing Ni-laterite is thought to be serpentinite from the serpentinization of harzburgite and dunite. Based on petrographic analysis, the bedrock is composed of >85% serpentine, the rest is relict minerals olivine and orthopyroxene, as well as other minerals such as talc, oxide minerals and opaque. The results of geochemical analysis show that in the limonite zone there is an abundance of Fe elements, while in the saprolite zone the Ni element is enriched with levels of 1.5% -2.8%.

Abstract

Sulfide ore exploration is a critical focus in mining as it is a primary source of various metals needed in industry. In Indonesia, the potential for sulfide mineral resources is significant, particularly due to the complex geological conditions that create an ideal environment for forming sulfide mineral deposits. Geophysical methods, such as geoelectrics (resistivity and Induced Polarization) and magnetic methods, have effectively evaluated the potential for sulfide mineralization beneath the surface. This study was conducted in Dairi Regency, North Sumatra, to explore the potential for sulfide mineralization, particularly related to gold and base metals commodities. The results show the characteristic anomaly responses of rocks containing ore deposits with varying resistivity, chargeability, and susceptibility values. The characteristics of rock anomaly responses containing ore deposits at the study site show resistivity values ranging from low to high (1 - 86910 Ωm), chargeability values ranging from moderate to high (110 - 611 msec), and susceptibility values ranging from moderate to high (-0.4 - 1 × 10-5 SI). There is a correlation between these values, where zones with medium to high chargeability are associated with low to medium resistivity and medium susceptibility, indicating sulfide mineralization zones in argillic alteration. Meanwhile, zones with medium to high chargeability are associated with medium to high resistivity and medium to high susceptibility, indicating sulfide mineralization zones in phyllic alteration. The distribution of mineral deposits tends to orient west-east, consistent with the trend direction of quartz veins.
