Abstract

The research aimed to validate the electronic module (e-module) based on the process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL) model on the topic of Vibrations, Waves, and Sounds in junior high school. The e-module developed was expected to help students learn independently and practice the science process skills. The research method was a research and development in accordance with the Plomp (2013) model. There were three validation components in the developed e-module\, i.e.: material, pedagogical, and media validation. This e-module has been validated based on the average assessment score given by the validators. The validation results of the material, pedagogical, and media were in a very valid category, with a percentage of 91.6%, 88.9%, and 89.8%, respectively. In short, the developed e-module produced excellent assessment results. Moreover, it was feasible for use in the science learning process of junior high school and can train students' science process skills

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the improvement of students' science process skills (SPS) after the implementation of home-based experiment activities on photosynthesis material. This research was carried out at one of the State Junior High Schools in Garut. The sample was 26 students for the experimental classes and 25 students for the control class. The research design was Pre-Posttest Control Group Design. The sample selection technique used the convenience sampling technique. The success of the learning method/model implemented was assessed through value analysis before (pretest) and after (posttest) given treatment in the experimental and control groups. The N-Gain value of the experimental group was 0.678, while the N-Gain value of the control group was 0.52. This indicated that the N-gain value of the experimental group was higher than the control group. But, the statistical analysis using post-test scores showed that there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in the students’ SPS. So, the implementation of home-based experiments and ordinary practicum in the learning process has the same effect on students’ SPS results. Therefore, home-based experiments should be an option for teachers in science learning because, even though the learning process is online, the practicum is the identity, and support of science learning should not be eliminated.

Abstract

In the 21st century of technology and the digital era, the integration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in educational, political and economical is becoming an integral part. The implementation of STEM in the learning context should be followed by the readiness of teacher capability and supported by STEM-based teaching materials. This paper implements Design and Development Research (DDR) which followed the six stages to produce a STEM-based module for 7th graders, particularly on earth's structure and its dynamic topic. The developed STEM-based module follows the basic national competence for secondary level, module criteria, criteria of great STEM learning materials, STEM literacy practices and Engineering Design Process from NGSS and NRC (2010), OECD (2016), NAEP (2014) and National Kurikulum 2013. The questionnaire is delivered to experts, teachers and students to test the validity and readability of the STEM-based module. Moreover, it is also implemented as a learning module in one class of 7th graders in SMP Negeri 03 Soreang, which consists of 32 students. The results show that STEM-based module is valid to be used by high school students. Moreover, the readability score reaches 88.39%, while the response towards layout, content and utility aspects is 94.44% means that it had a minor revision.

Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) may be defined as a technology capable of incorporating two-dimensional or three-dimensional virtual objects into a real environment. This content analysis study aimed to systematically analyze AR research trends in Indonesia based on articles published in national and international journals. It compared the two methods in applying AR, namely Marker Based 77% and Markerless Based 23%. No output appeared in 2013, 2014, and 2016, while 2022 had the highest productivity with 12 papers. A significant increase in the number of articles was seen from 2018 to 2022, where 2021 and 2022 were the most productive year with 40 publications, and 639 was the highest number of citations in 2022. The AR research method dominated by research and development (40%), followed by a literature review (23%), experiment (13%), mixed method (8%), survey (4%), classroom action research (4%), and correlational (3%). Furthermore, the number of articles with 2 authors experienced a rapid increase between 2020 and 2022 and more than half of publications (66%) were written by the collaborations of 2 authors and 3 authors.

Abstract

Digital technology has been recognized as a powerful tool in teaching and learning Mathematics. Proper usage of digital technology would enhance students’ and teachers’ effectiveness in the classroom setting. This study investigated the acceptance and perception of using digital technology in the classroom among students and teachers in reference to Ogun in Nigeria. The study used a survey-type descriptive research design. Three hundred and sixty (360) respondents consisting of three hundred (300) students and sixty (60) teachers made up the sample for this study. In the investigation, a Multi-stage Sampling Technique was adopted. In the first stage, the researchers selected ten (10) secondary schools in Ogun State with digital technology facilities using the Purposive Sampling Technique. In the second stage, the researchers selected six (6) teachers and thirty (30) pupils from each of the selected schools using the Simple Randomly Sampling Technique. The instrument for data collection was titled “Acceptance and Perception on Digital Technology Questionnaire”. (APDTQ) Using Cronbach's alpha, the instrument's reliability was assessed, and a reliability coefficient of 0.82 was calculated. The content validity was ascertained by the preparation of the table of specifications. Four research questions were answered. Data collected were analyzed using the descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation, and percentages. Results of the findings showed that both teachers and students had favorable opinions on the usage of digital technology in the classroom, although students were shown to be more perceptive than teachers. Additionally, the study's findings indicated that both teachers and students highly embrace the use of digital technology in the teaching and learning of mathematics. It was recommended, among others, that additional knowledge about using digital technology in the classroom should be given to teachers and students.

Abstract

PhET has many benefits as a means of instructional technology and media in the learning process, especially in Natural Sciences (IPA) subjects that require experimental activities. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using PhET simulations with inquiry learning models to increase students' conceptual understanding of static electricity. This type of research was quasi-experimental with a posttest-only control group design. The subjects were students of class IX at Public Junior High School (SMPN) 1 Tebing Tinggi for the 2022/2023 academic year. Data collection used concept comprehension question sheets that had been prepared by indicators of conceptual understanding and indicators of competency in static electricity material. The study showed the average value of the indicator in the experimental group was higher than the control group. This study concludes that learning using the inquiry learning model assisted by PhET simulation can facilitate students to learn independently, and students can conduct virtual experiments as an alternative solution to the limited facilities of the schools.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the increase in problem-solving abilities of junior high school students after being treated using contextual STEAM-based electrical KIT in the experimental class and conventional learning in the control class. The research used a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design with the posttest-only control group design model. The population was class IX students of Muhammadiyah Middle School for the 2022/2023 academic year, with 71 students. The samples were selected using the simple random sampling technique, namely 47 students divided into class IX-1 as the control class and class IX-2 as the experimental class using a contextual STEAM-based electrical KIT. The results showed that the problem-solving ability of the experimental class was higher, namely obtaining an average score of 50.00% with sufficient criteria. Meanwhile, the control class only got an average score of 38.04% with poor criteria. Based on the inferential analysis using SPSS version 25 with a confidence level of 95%, the output of the independent t-test shows a significance of 0.009. It means that there is a significant difference between the problem-solving abilities of students who use contextual STEAM-based electrical KIT compared to students who use conventional learning.
