Abstract

The development of nursing knowledge through research is crucial for its discipline. It is notable to understand the philosophical view of the researcher in conducting the study; in particular advanced analysis, the method would generate advanced nursing knowledge. Philosophical approaches to knowledge development in ontological, epistemological, and axiological contexts were addressed. Developing new knowledge requires the nurse to understand the nature, source, and ways to access the knowledge. Some philosophical approaches are discussed, including post-positivism, interpretative, humanistic, naturalistic, and critical approaches. Thus, different methods for acquiring knowledge, from observation to intervention studies which are underlying philosophies in nursing for addressing huge nursing phenomena, could enrich the nursing body of knowledge. Great use of evidence-based nursing knowledge leads to improved nursing practice quality. This review discusses the philosophical approach for researchers to use as a foundation for their study of the exemplar of diabetes mellitus. Abstract

Patients with AIDS commonly feel negative impressions of themselves; vice-versa, other people will lead to negative stigma. In addition, stigma has a significant impact, affecting themselves and how people treat them. This study aims to identify the impact and determinants of stigmatization and discrimination toward people with HIV/AIDS. A systematic review was used as the research design guided by the PRISMA framework. The researchers sought the other studies' results through several databases, including PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Clinical Key for Nursing. Nineteen articles were reviewed, which highlighted that stigmatization and discrimination could be physical, verbal, and social. Our findings showed that stigmatization and discrimination occur in various forms because of accompanying factors. Several risk factors need to be reviewed as the starting point for developing measures to address stigmatization and discrimination. Abstract

The number of reports of poor reproductive and sexual health in adolescents is enormous. Sexual education is very critical for adolescent health. Sexual education has shown more effective results when implemented in collaboration with adolescents. Lack of educational resources, issues considered taboo and cultural boundaries, and lack of trust in maintaining confidentiality cause ambiguity and misconceptions about sexual education. Implementing sexual education involves many parties, so this study aimed to analyze the stakeholders' perspectives on sexual education delivery for adolescents. This systemic review was conducted to find relevant articles in Scopus, CINAHL, Science Direct, and ProQuest databases—the research guideline using The PRISMA checklist. The eligibility criteria and The JBI Checklist were prepared as a guide in measuring article quality. In the final review, twelve articles were included. The articles mentioned parents, adolescents, teachers, and other stakeholders' perspectives. Parents' perspectives have who is responsible for educating adolescents, taboo and lack of communication skills between parent-child, contents of sexual education, and delayed sexual education. Adolescents' perspectives, such as sources and ideal versions of sexual education. Teachers' perspectives include people who should be responsible and skill-based teachers. Meanwhile, other stakeholders' perspectives have school-based, religious challenges, partnerships, and communication strategies with adolescents. This study shows the need for improvement in delivering sexual education. Keywords: Stakeholders; sexual education; skill-based teachers; parents care; communication skills

Abstract

Health education is a promising intervention to improve the mother's nutrition knowledge. However, a study focusing on using booklets and food journaling is limited in the literature. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of health education using a booklet and food journaling on the daily nutrition pattern of children. The study design is a pre-experiment pretest-posttest single group design using 19 participants who met the criteria. The participants received intervention one session of health education using a booklet and 14 days of food journaling activity for the children eating patterns. Data analysis used univariate analysis, and Wilcoxon signed rank. The study showed significant differences in maternal knowledge before and after intervention (p<0.05). However, there are no significant differences in children eating patterns (p>0.05). The findings suggest that health education using a booklet and food journaling book effectively increases maternal knowledge but does not change children's eating patterns. Abstract

Globally, around 17,3% of college students perceived depression. Untreated depression will negatively impact students’ quality of life; moreover, it can trigger students to consume drugs and alcohol or commit suicide. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of saffron on students who perceive depression. This is an experimental, un-blinded study. In this study, 71 nursing students who perceived depression symptoms participated. In the saffron (intervention group), 40 nursing students were voluntarily assigned to receive saffron (5 strands of dried saffron petals, brewed in 200 ml warm water, consumed twice daily, morning and night). In comparison, 31 students (control group) drink regular tea for two weeks. Using the DASS 21 Checklist, we assessed the students at baseline and, after two weeks, completed therapy to measure the outcome. Finally, the data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Test statistical analysis. Saffron had a more significant impact on depression levels among the intervention group. The mean stress scores decreased from 15.4 ± 6.1 to 10.8 ± 5.8 for the saffron group (p < .0001), while for the control group, the depression score slightly increased from 13,74 to 14,52. Our findings suggest that saffron is effective in reducing depression levels among nursing students. Keywords: Depression; nursing care; nursing students; nursing intervention; complementary therapy

Abstract

Many families care for patients with impaired physical mobility independently at home; stable patients or with special considerations are usually allowed to go home by the hospital and continue treatment at home. The telenursing application is one of the interventions that can be implemented to help increase the knowledge and skills of families caring for patients at home. This study aimed to determine the implementation model of telenursing educational applications for families caring for patients with impaired physical mobility at home. This research is a literature study using the PRISMA approach. A systematic review using PICO. The database searches used were Google Scholar, PubMed, Crossref, ScienceDirect, and Wiley Online Library with the keywords telenursing OR telehealth OR mobile application AND physical immobility OR physical mobility impairment OR physical mobility disruption AND therapy AND the family caregiver. From the six research articles reviewed, it was found that the telenursing application is an implementation that can be applied to increase the knowledge and skills of families caring for sick family members at home. Interventions include education and training in audio, video, text, film, and consultation. The media used is WhatsApp, websites, telephones, and other cellular telecommunication-based applications. Telenursing applications are the best solution to help families caring for patients with impaired physical mobility at home. Abstract

Studies showed the significant impact on nurses' clinical experience and how they face work challenges during COVID-19. This study explores Indonesian nurses' working experiences in Saudi Arabia during the post-COVID-19 pandemic. A qualitative design with a phenomenological approach was used in this study. The inclusion criteria were 10 Indonesian nurses working in the COVID-19 ward, registered nurses at the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), and able to participate in this research, while the exclusion criteria were out of those criteria. A semi-structured interview was used in a suitable setting, and the data transcription followed seven steps of Colaizzi's analysis. Three themes were identified: burnout, support system, and job satisfaction. These themes reflect the workload of Indonesian nurses who work in the government hospital in Saudi Arabia. All participants were exhausted in the post-COVID-19 pandemic. The researcher recommended the need for comprehensive support by the government and suggested established policies that reduce the psychological problem of non-Saudi nurses in post-pandemic COVID-19. Abstract

Sectio Caesarea delivery using the ERACS method is suspected of affecting milk production. Some researchers show results with varied parameters and inconsistent results. This study aims to determine the effect of various combinations of anesthetic drugs on breast milk production. This research is a descriptive correlation study with a cross-sectional approach with medical record documents as the data source. The sample in this study was 60 mothers who delivered by sectio caesarea at Aisyiyah Muntilan Hospital in July-October 2022. A total of 30 patients received a combination of anesthetic drugs 1 in topical and morphine, and 30 received a combination of anesthetic 2 in the form of vopicain, fentanyl, and dexmedetomidine. The results showed no difference in milk production in the patient group with combination 1 and 2 anesthetic drugs (p-value 0,000 with α: 0.05). This study concluded a difference in milk production in patients who received the anesthetic combination of vopicain, fentanyl, and dexmedetomidine and the combination of vopicain and morphine. Abstract

Having understandable and clear-precise writing is fundamental for nurses who dive into a publication world. However, writing skills for publishing are not always part of the curriculum in many healthcare education systems globally. The writing skills must be adapted to successfully prepare for publishing in the scientific literature and presenting oral and written summaries of our research. Accepted or rejected is a part of the journey of the publication hunter. The author should understand the “rule of the game” of publication to minimize or avoid rejection in a high-standard nursing journal. Psychological preparation is also essential, as several authors feel pessimist after having a rejection. These phenomena need to be considered for a journal editor to massively educate the author about how to write a paper, how to describe gaps of knowledge, and how to explain the research method in the method section. Even though this process requires a long-time step, I think this would not be a big deal for the author. They will always try and try to achieve a publication in the highest-impact nursing journal. No matter how complicated the process is, being an optimist is always needed for those writing a publication. Keywords: accepted; rejected; publication; academic writing; nursing carreer
