Abstract

Studies showed the significant impact on nurses' clinical experience and how they face work challenges during COVID-19. This study explores Indonesian nurses' working experiences in Saudi Arabia during the post-COVID-19 pandemic. A qualitative design with a phenomenological approach was used in this study. The inclusion criteria were 10 Indonesian nurses working in the COVID-19 ward, registered nurses at the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), and able to participate in this research, while the exclusion criteria were out of those criteria. A semi-structured interview was used in a suitable setting, and the data transcription followed seven steps of Colaizzi's analysis. Three themes were identified: burnout, support system, and job satisfaction. These themes reflect the workload of Indonesian nurses who work in the government hospital in Saudi Arabia. All participants were exhausted in the post-COVID-19 pandemic. The researcher recommended the need for comprehensive support by the government and suggested established policies that reduce the psychological problem of non-Saudi nurses in post-pandemic COVID-19. The research subjects used typical case sampling of 12 Indonesian nurses who had work experience regarding NSI. In-depth interviews with structured questions were conducted with respondents following guidelines for data analysis using a seven step analysis by Colaizzi and Nvivo software. There were 13 categories from 4 themes found in this research about knowledge, behavior and skills also management of exposure and post exposure. The behavior of Indonesian nurses towards non-reported needle stick injury based on experience has been carried out even though the behavior, especially knowledge, attitude and skills policy on management of needle stick injury needs improvement.

Abstract

The Covid pandemic has ended but health workers, especially nurses in Saudi Arabia, are still experiencing burnout due to high workloads. This study aims to analyze burnout and job satisfaction related to intention to leave among Indonesian nurses in health services in Saudi Arabia. This research used a qualitative method with a case-study approach. The research subjects used purposive sampling with a typical case of 12 Indonesian nurses who worked in health services and terminated their work contracts in Saudi Arabia. This research used data triangulation, source triangulation, and peer debriefing. In-depth interviews conducted at a predetermined place, data analysis follows 7 steps of Colaizzi's analysis. The results showed that burnout was closely related to emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low appreciation for one's abilities. Indonesian nurses who worked in health services in Saudi Arabia were happy and did not experience burnout. Meanwhile, job satisfaction or nurse satisfaction in dealing with work situations and environments is related to internal factors such as salary and rights to work facilities, while externally, it is related to self-development and professionalism.
