Abstract

With the acceptation of UNCLOS 1982 by countries in the world, the Indonesia’s sovereign territories from the sea and the air have been increased ten times; hence, the Indonesian authorities on natural resources and other authorities have been widened dramatically. To use the widened and varied of natural resources, and to defend the unity of territories and the rights of Indonesian from the sea and the air, besides on the land, it needs a clear state’s boundaries on land and maritime border, seabed, and the air, and the increased ability of law enforcement and state’s defense that is widened and varied.

Abstract

This research aims are to discuss the maritime diplomacy practice between Indonesia and Malaysia. Problem within the territory of those respective countries, through cooperative maritime diplomacy approach. Thus, by using this design, this study tried to develop the building block of anti-IUU Fishing practiced cooperation between Indonesia – Malaysia. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive research methods and research techniques using literature study. The result showed that Indonesia – Malaysia maritime diplomacy practice in bilateral framework has not been being the focus in tackling such IUU Fishing. The issue of IUU Fishing is a real threat for both countries, which can affect the economic and security matters. The IUU Fishing activity is transnational which do not have a space for unilateral maritime safety approach. In short, both Indonesia and Malaysia should take a serious measurement through cooperative maritime diplomacy to tackle IUU Fishing problem.

Abstract

This paper shows how Terrorism has been emerging in the world, the potency to be spread out in the South-East Asian nations, and how Indonesia could face internal challenges to do counter-terrorism of the false Jihad, with multitrack diplomacy, primarily with Police and National Agency for Combating Terrorism counter-terrorism programs. In the perspective of defense strategy, the issue of terrorism brings several implications (Indonesian White Paper 2008, p. 9). The condition of Indonesian community with low educational levels and low economic income becomes target for terrorist actors to expand the network by developing and recruiting new members. The threat of Islamic terrorism is categorized as a national security threat. The Indonesian Government through its security apparatus still have to work hard to hunt down other terrorists, to undertake preventive efforts to prevent Islamic fundamentalist beliefs not to develop and increased education level and the understanding of Islam more comprehensively.

Taking in consideration the existing structural environment changes, related legislations and their implementations should be updated from time to time. This is very important not only for decision makers but also for all related stakeholders.. When non-military power plays a greater role in determining the country’s defence posture, defence planners would have to shift their attention from hard power calculations to diplomacy and the development of other elements of soft power

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the concept of Indonesian Defence Management in the 21st century in the context of Indonesian Maritime Security and to determine the readiness of defence management capabilities in facing threats. Research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection methods through in-depth interview and documentation. The results showed that in order to improve maritime security in Indonesia has not been implemented in a structured and comprehensive defense in accordance with the management perspective of the countries more advanced, especially on defense preparedness in logistics management such as the management and alutsista availability owned Indonesia

Abstract

This study discusses the concept of defending the country in by considering the context of the development of Indonesian society in the global era and democracy. The diversity of consciousness that arise therefore, are challenge for Indonesia. This qualitative research-based study found that the various phenomena mentioned above are essentially challenge to the interests of the state because they de territorialize the logic of state territorialism, through the form of postnationalist logical thinking. This study is an attempt to define the role of the Indonesian Defense University to form the Axis of State Defense as a strategic network to respond the dynamic of socio-political consciousness constructively. Abstract

This study focused on five variables threat perception, in the strategic decision making process. This study uses a quantitative approach to threat perception index and analytic hierarchy process method. Threat perception index variables: changes in global power mapping, strategic environment with high ambiguous, the political system in the country, domestic and violations of socio-cultural norms. The results of this research: (1) variable political system in the country, domestic and social culture of critical signals violation of norms derived from the analytic hierarchy process can be used as the basis for establishing the national security system; (2) The threat perception index in international relations

Abstract

Economic empowerment is an effort to improve society's ability to fulfill their needs and have well-being, it can influence the improvement of national defense. The research purpose is analyzing the actual conditions and factors affecting the implementation of economic empowerment in South Tangerang city. This research used qualitative descriptive method. Collected data through observation, interviews and focus group discussions. All data have been obtained processed with data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Results showed that the economic empowerment in South Tangerang City, conducted by the city government and stekholder (Office, Business Associations, Banks, Universities and Private Entrepreneurs) although not yet collaborate to achieve expected results

This article attempts to analyze the theoretical overview of China, United States of America, and Southeast Asia countries strategic interest in South China Sea conflict. This study is carried by projecting their national interest in South China Sea and analyzed them theoretically by using Balance of Influence Theory and Hedging Strategy. Abstract

This research aims to analyze on a measuring instrument for peace in Indonesia, not only measure conflict resolution but also the prevention of conflict. Measuring instrument that will be created is intended to make the Indonesia Peace Index as analytical framework of conflict and peace, especially in Indonesia. Research design using qualitative descriptive study approach. The results of this study indicate that the DKI Jakarta and Papua is a region with the highest intensity conflict. Moreover, the conflict is the dominant social conflict with the highest actors as perpetrators of conflict is the public, this is due to structural factors are still frequently occur and not be solved completely by the government..
