Abstract

This writing analyzes the relationship between one text and another, in this case poems entitle Kerendahan Hati written by Taufik Ismail and another poem entitles Be the Best of Whatever You are written by Douglas Malloch. Thus, the objective of this analysis is to show and analyze the relationship between these two texts. To reach the objective, this analysis applies intertextuality to present the relations because intertextuality believes no text is original. It is true due to the signification of a text is influenced by the signification of other text, which are the reference or quotation of the previous text.Related to that idea, this analysis will describe how Kerendahan hati is related to Be the Best of Whatever You are. Furthermore, it will be concluded which text is the source. It will prove whether Kerendahan Hati is the source which influences Be the Best of Whatever You are or vice versa.

Abstract

A manuscript entitled Syair Nabi Allah Ayub becomes the object of this study. It is written in Jawi. The manuscript was fisnished in the Barus, on 24-3-1273 or 22-11-1856. The text contains the life journey of the Prophet Ayub being tested by God with various trials. At the end of story, Angel Jibril and Mikail released all the trials and the Prophet Ayub regained its former glory. Many things can be explored with regard to the content of the texts, one of them about the imagery of woman in Islam described in the text of Syair Nabi Allah Ayub. It is analyzed by using Roland Barthes’ semiotic concept.

Abstract

Traditionally, utterances are speech units used in a language directly. It contains series of words and complete thought. The utterances are used in various contexts. One of them is in SMS ( Short Messege Service ). SMS is a facility to send and receive short text messege via wireless device namely telephone mobile communication devices. In this case, the communication device used in cellular telephone. Related to that, this writing presents the analysis of declarative narratives used by students of Agriculture department in Riau University in 2015. It analyzes how the narratives are used and their meanings. Thus, the purpose of the analysis is to identify and describe the meaning of specch utterances of those students.

Abstract

Admitted or denied, the gap in life which leads to the strata in society can be found in any society. The social strata and its consequence is the phenomenon of urban society which is universal, including Bengkalis society. It can easily be seen in the daily life of its people. Each person can place him/herself and be placed by others in certain social strata. Social stratification is one of the elements of social system analysis. Social stratification pattern develops and is realized in various forms influenced by complexity of a society. In this analysis, the data collected based on Rogers’ (1960) social stratification measurement method, i.e objective and subjective measurement. Different criteria used may result on different strata formed which can be seen on respondents’ frequency level on each social strata. Objective criteria consists of the measurements on education, income, power, prestige, type of house, number of children, resident-owned status. Based on objective criteria, by using combined index, from 65 chosen respondents, there are 30 respondents or 46.15% respondents placed in high class and 35 respondents or 53.85% are placed in low class. Respondents who subjectively identify themselves on high class are 12 people or 40 % and on low class are 18 respondents from 30 highclass respondents or about 60%. Those data conclude that social stratification in Bengkalis society is a heterogeneous urban society. The form of social stratification is caused by economic factor, because this factor exactly differentiates people from different kinds of jobs.

Abstract

Unilak’s library contains a collection of reference books, research journals, documents and other important information which support the learning process for students. As the information resource, it needs to complete its facilities such as books collection. The library keeps increasing the numbers of books but not all of them are needed by the users. Besides, the library should provide good service from the librarians in order it can satisfy the users. Comfort is another element which may determine the users’ spending time in the library. Thus, the library management needs to evaluate its service. Related to that, this study is conducted to identify the level of satisfaction of the users towards the service provided by Unilak’s library management. Moreover, it is done to show which facilities are priority to be paid attention as well as for the reference of the policy makers to decide for better development.
