Abstract

The family, as the first educational environment for children, plays a crucial role in the formation of Islamic character. However, the high level of parental activity and work demands may reduce the intensity of their involvement in guiding and instilling Islamic values in their children. This study aims to provide an in-depth explanation of the role of parents in shaping children’s Islamic character in Kluwut Village, Bulakamba District, as well as to identify the challenges encountered in its implementation. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that parents hold a very significant role in shaping Islamic character, as reflected in their roles as educators, motivators, and role models. As educators, parents instill the values of tauhid, habituate religious practices, and foster moral conduct as well as social awareness. As motivators, they provide encouragement and appropriate appreciation to reinforce positive behavior. As role models, parents demonstrate Islamic values in their daily lives, serving as concrete examples for their children. The challenges faced include limited time due to work demands and the influence of digital technology. Nevertheless, parents continue to strive to perform their roles optimally by utilizing available time and implementing adaptive parenting strategies. These findings indicate that consistent and high-quality parental involvement is a key factor in the successful development of children’s Islamic character.

Abstract

Hindu families in Krisik Village, Gandusari Subdistrict, Blitar Regency face complex socio-economic challenges, including changes in social patterns, limited economic resources, and low internalization of Hindu teachings in daily life practices. The gap between normative religious understanding and the community's socio-economic practices is evident in the implementation of Catur Asrama, a life stage system that regulates education, social responsibilities, and dharma-based economic activities. This study aims to formulate and analyze a model for implementing Catur Asrama to strengthen the socio-economic resilience of Hindu families in Krisik Village. A qualitative approach with a case study design was used, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document studies. Informants were selected purposively, including religious leaders, administrators of religious organizations, Hindu educators, village officials, and local economic actors. Data analysis was conducted thematically through reduction, categorization, and the drawing of interpretative conclusions. The research results indicate that the implementation of Catur Asrama, particularly the Brahmacari and Gṛhastha phases, plays a central role in strengthening the socio-economic resilience of families. Brahmacari shapes characters with discipline, responsibility, and educational orientation that support future economic readiness, whereas Gṛhastha becomes the center of economic productivity through the reinforcement of a dharma-based work ethic, wise household management, and active participation in social networks and customary activities. The integration of spiritual values, social practices, and economic strategies strengthens community social capital and enhances family capacity to face economic pressures and social changes. The research conclusion affirms that Catur Asrama functions as an ethically-economic framework based on dharma that is effective, making religious values not only normative but also strategic in building economic independence, social solidarity, and the sustainability of Hindu families at the community level.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the interpretation of Protestant Church teachings on the ethics of social life in modern society, particularly in the context of social transactions between religious communities. This study focuses on three problems, namely: How is the interpretation of Protestant Church social teachings on the ethics of social life in the context of Christian transactions in modern Indonesian society?. How are the dynamics of change historically?, and What are the challenges of its implementation in a pluralistic society. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The results show that the Protestant Church interprets moral and social teachings by emphasizing the values of love (agape), justice, solidarity, and tolerance as the basis for forming the congregation's social ethics. This interpretation develops contextually from a normative-institutional approach to a more dialogical and participatory approach in modern social life. In practice, the congregation implements these values through mutual cooperation activities, humanitarian services, community empowerment, and interfaith social cooperation. However, its implementation still faces challenges in the form of increasing individualism, shifts in moral values, and the influence of digital technology on social relationship patterns. Thus, the interpretation of the Protestant Church's social teachings is dynamic in building harmonious social interactions, so that it is necessary to strengthen social ethics education and interfaith dialogue as a strategy to maintain the consistency of the congregation's social practices in the modern era. Therefore, this study recommends strengthening the role of the Protestant Church in fostering the congregation's social ethics as well as increasing dialogue and cooperation between religious communities in order to create a harmonious and just social life and the creation of world peace.

Abstract

This research examines the conceptual transformation from ecotheology to ecospirituality in reconstructing the ecological consciousness of the Benawas Indigenous community in Rimba Kobar. The study aims to identify how theological values rooted in human–nature relations evolve into more holistic, contextual, and experientially grounded spiritual practices. Employing a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and narrative analysis of cultural practices and indigenous rituals. The findings reveal that the Benawas community perceives nature not merely as a creation to be theologically preserved, but as a sacred entity intrinsically embedded in their spiritual lifeworld. This transformation is marked by a shift from a normative-doctrinal framework toward an immanent, relational, and sustainability-oriented spiritual experience. The emerging ecospirituality reinforces an ecological ethic grounded in local wisdom, contributing to environmental preservation and resilience. This study underscores the importance of integrating theological and spiritual dimensions in addressing contemporary ecological crises, while offering an alternative perspective rooted in indigenous knowledge systems for advancing the discourse on religious ecology.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the strategic role of the principal as a builder of a professional and religious work ecosystem in an Islamic-based vocational education institution. The purpose of this study is to explore the leadership model implemented by the principal of SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta in managing vocational education based on Islamic values. The research method used is descriptive qualitative through field research with data collection techniques in the form of structured interviews, direct observation, and document review. Data analysis adopted the Miles and Huberman framework which includes information condensation, presentation of results, and formulation of conclusions. The results show that the principal applies an integrative-contextual leadership style that harmoniously combines four main approaches: transformational, servant leadership, collective-collegial, and distributed. The transformational element is reflected in the development of vision and motivation for innovation; the servant aspect is seen in empathy and commitment to teacher competency development; the collegial-participatory approach is manifested in the deliberation mechanism; and distributed leadership is carried out through the delegation of balanced authority to the management team. This leadership model has a positive impact on improving academic standards, strengthening the religious atmosphere, and aligning graduates with the demands of the workplace. The study's conclusions confirm that leadership effectiveness in Islamic vocational schools is determined by the leader's ability to be adaptive and multidimensional in responding to the institution's internal and external dynamics.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the need to present a model of character education that goes beyond conceptual value transmission and is realized through consistent daily habituation. The tarbiyah program at Pondok Pesantren Jannatul Qur’an Boyolali integrates character formation into the students’ twenty-four-hour daily activities. This research aims to describe the strategies of character formation implemented through the program and to identify the character values that emerge within the boarding school environment. The study employs a field research design with a descriptive qualitative approach, using participatory, interviews with the mudir, teachers, and student administrators, as well as documentation of daily activities. The findings reveal that character formation is carried out through four main strategies: teacher role modeling, the cultivation of proper conduct in daily interactions, the involvement of students in responsibility and independence, and the habituation of worship and spiritual discipline as foundational elements. These strategies are embedded in the collective life pattern of the boarding school, enabling character values to be internalized through repeated lived experiences rather than mere verbal instruction. The impact is reflected in the development of integrity, discipline, social empathy, courtesy, independence, trustworthiness, religiosity, and self-control among students. The effectiveness of the program is supported by consistent teacher exemplarity and a well-structured boarding school environment, although challenges arise from students’ diverse backgrounds and the tendency toward formal compliance without deep value internalization. Overall, the tarbiyah program represents a holistic, contextual, and practical model of character education.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a crucial role in character building, where success is heavily influenced by the principal's leadership quality. While transformational leadership is widely discussed, specific studies focusing on its strategy for internalizing Islamic values within the Madrasah Aliyah (MA) level in a Tahfiz boarding school context remain scarce. This study aims to analyze the principal's transformational leadership roles and strategies in instilling Islamic values at MA PPTQ Al-Ikhlas Sukoharjo. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with a phenomenological approach, data were gathered through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that the principal serves strategic roles as a spiritual leader, HR developer, environment builder, and curriculum integrator. Key strategies include teacher quality enhancement, deliberation-based communication, and Islamic culture habituation. The novelty of this research lies in the emphasis on the teacher-environment-curriculum strategic pattern as an effective value internalization model. Practically, this study provides a reference for Islamic education managers in developing adaptive and sustainable leadership.

Abstract

Teachers’ strategies for fostering Islamic character in students are essential for educational institutions, particularly Islamic schools; however, at MA Nurul Munawarah, there are still some students who engage in behaviors contrary to the Islamic character expected of a student. This study aims to determine the strategies teachers use to foster Islamic character at MA Nurul Munawarah in Tumbang Lahung Village. This study employs a qualitative approach using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that through various routine guidance programs such as congregational Dhuha prayer, group Quran recitation, religious lectures, and other religious activities which are not only participated in by students but also by teachers as their mentors, students’ active engagement in these religious activities demonstrates that consistent routine-based strategies can instill Islamic values. The main factors that can influence students’ Islamic character include the family, community, and school environments. This study concludes that the implementation of teachers’ strategies is crucial in fostering Islamic character through various methods, such as setting a good example and instilling religious activities, thereby aligning with the school’s Islamic-based vision and mission.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of the transnational Islamic movement and Muhammadiyah's response to its development in Indonesia. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach, and data collection techniques were conducted through literature studies, interviews, and documentation. Primary data were obtained through interviews with informants selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results of the study indicate that the development of the transnational Islamic movement in Indonesia is influenced by globalization, digital media, and ideological networks from the Middle East that enter through various channels. This phenomenon has given rise to various responses in society and has the potential to cause social friction if not understood contextually. In this regard, Muhammadiyah, as a moderate Islamic organization, responds through a progressive Islamic approach based on the principle of wasathiyah (religious moderation), emphasizing tolerance, inclusiveness, and strengthening religious and digital literacy. Thus, Muhammadiyah plays a role as a social agent in maintaining a balance between Islamic and Indonesian values amidst the currents of globalization.

Abstract

The Sangiang language is a sacred language within the Kaharingan Hindu religious system, functioning as a medium of spiritual communication in various religious rituals. However, the narrowing of its domain of use, the limited number of speakers, and the weakening of intergenerational transmission have placed the language in a vulnerable condition. This study aims to analyze the forms of maintenance of the Sangiang language, its domains of use, and the roles of actors and institutions in sustaining its continuity in Central Kahayan District, Pulang Pisau Regency. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving seven informants. The findings reveal that the maintenance of the Sangiang language occurs primarily through religious ritual practices such as Basarah, Tiwah, and Manyanggar, which serve as its core domains of use. This maintenance is reinforced by the roles of basir and pisor as religious and linguistic authorities, the balai basarah as a space for informal transmission, and the support of religious and educational institutions. However, the process of language transmission remains limited and exclusive, with relatively low participation from younger generations. In addition, modernization and the dominance of the Indonesian language in everyday communication have further restricted the use of the Sangiang language. This study contributes to sociolinguistic scholarship by demonstrating that sacred language maintenance can be sustained through strong ritual domains, even without broader functional expansion. These findings highlight the need for adaptive strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of religious-based minority languages.
