Abstract

The assessment of the quality of textbooks is important to be studied in order to measure their suitability to the needs of students and alignment with the curriculum. The Textbook "Ajar Basa Jawa (ABJ)" is a Javanese language subject book used for elementary school students in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study uses a qualitative approach based on BNSP parameters and quantitatively based on the readability of the Fry test. The research method in this study is descriptive research. The research instruments consist of (1) the readability quality of the Fry Graph readability parameter and (2) the readability parameter instrument from BSNP. The BSNP parameter book quality instrument consists of the eligibility of (a) content, (b) language, (c) presentation, and (d) graphics. The validity of the data is obtained by the validity technique of diligent and accurate observation, repeated studies, and peer checking. Qualitative analysis with BSNP parameters and quantitative based on Fry Graph. The results (1) based on the Fry Graph analysis, the ABJ book for grade 4 elementary school does not meet the readability as a good grade 4 book. Based on BSNP parameters, the ABJ book is in the less category, and based on the fry test mapping it is more suitable for class 7. This is caused by (a) words with 3-4 syllables, (b) difficult words, (c) various typos/imprecisions by the author, (d) ambiguous words, and (e) sentences that are too long. The use of the Ajar Basa Jawa textbook needs to be aligned with the development of students and the applicable Javanese curriculum in elementary schools.

The story of Rahwana is found in the novel Anak Bajang Menggiring Angin, although an episode but it is the core of Javanese cultural aesthetics based on the sources of Islamic Mataram in Krato Surakarta Hadiningrat and Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat. Sangkan Paran is a concept from the answer to the knowledge of Jendra Hayuningrat Pangruwating Diyu literature. Humans come from divine light (nur) and reside in the deepest heart (nur), ideals (mind) or reason and feeling. Reason is still wrapped in four passions, anger, aluwamah, sifiyah, and mutmainah. Abstract

With the aim of presenting alternative children's stories in Javanese, Javanese Language and Literature students translated children's stories from several stories by Javanese literary writers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the acceptability of students' translation results for children's literature in Javanese. The research method used a qualitative approach, a case study method with translation assessment criteria from Rochayah Machali with four aspects. The data source was the results of student translations consisting of 12 children's stories with various dialects. Data analysis by Cresswell with six stages. The results of the study showed that in the translation results seen from several aspects: 1) the accuracy of meaning production, there were several transpositions because there were adjustments to the TL context, but modulation was not found because the majority of translations were word-by-word, idioms were found in several stories and were correct in their translation, semantic aspects were in accordance with conventions, pragmatic meanings were sequential even though some words did not have equivalents in the TL; 2) reasonableness of expression, some stories were translated naturally, some were still stiff; 3) terminology, it can be said that 70% of the 12 stories used dialect terms correctly and clearly, but the rest were lacking. 4) spelling, the majority of errors in punctuation, typos, and typical Javanese spelling. Based on these results, it was concluded that 8 stories were categorized as good translations (C) and 4 stories were categorized as fair translations (D).

Abstract

This study examines the variations in Javanese swear words created in a competition titled "Sayembara Misuhi Pandemi" initiated by the Jawasastra Community. Furthermore, this study aims to examine the meaning and factors behind the emergence of these curses. The data in this study were taken from video posts on Instagram using the hashtag #misuhipandemi, which was used to identify participants in the "Misuhi Pandemic" competition. Next, the data were classified based on their linguistic markers. Data analysis was conducted using semantic descriptions of the lingual markers in the form of words and describing the sentence contexts within the curses to understand the meaning and factors behind their emergence. The analysis results show that the uniqueness of this competition is reflected in the variety of curse words directed at the COVID-19 pandemic. The curse words that emerged as curses regarding the COVID-19 pandemic are associated with nouns, verbs, and adjectives or states. When examined by factors, swearing during the COVID-19 pandemic is caused by boredom from prolonged periods at home, anger due to limited interaction with others, anger due to economic factors, and anger at society's indifference during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

“Harmony within the family” is a concept offered through sastra piwulang (didactic literature) during the reign of Pakubuwana IX at the Surakarta Palace. This concept underlies the construction of patriarchal hegemony embodied in several works of sastra piwulang, especially teachings intended for women at that time. This study focuses on analyzing sastra piwulang texts to understand how patriarchal ideology influenced social relationships and dynamics during that period, as well as how the concept of harmony was articulated through sastra piwulang. The results of the analysis show that almost all piwulang texts for women consistently carry the message of “family harmony,” which reinforces patriarchal domination in society and governance. This is reflected in the roles assigned to women, who were not entirely free to manage their existence and self-actualization. Concepts of power, control, and decision-making were held by men, resulting in gender inequality within the family. Amid this patriarchal domination, sastra piwulang functioned as a medium to articulate values that emphasized harmony within the family. The findings of this study can serve as a foundation for repositioning the role of women within Indonesian families, particularly Javanese families, in the development of gender equality programs in contemporary society.

The script is a work representing past cultures. A work is the production of a particularr period of time and space, including the language in which it is represented. Abstract

The Sĕstra Agĕng Adidarma manuscript (abbreviated as SAA) with the code Pi.35 is a manuscript written in the mid-19th century in Pakualaman, Yogyakarta. It contains several texts, including various folktales. The aim of this study is to identify the number of folktale texts in the SAA manuscript and to analyze them narratively to uncover their structural composition. The theory employed is philology, supported by the narrative structure approach developed by Tzvetan Todorov, particularly focusing on semantic aspects. The benefit of this research is to present the distinctive characteristics of folktale texts from Pakualaman. The results show that there are 26 folktale texts in the SAA manuscript. The semantic aspects of the texts indicate that formally, the texts are composed in the form of macapat verse poetry. The chosen opening tembang (verse forms) include: Pangkur (2 texts), Sinom (8 texts), Asmaradana (6 texts), Dhandhanggula (7 texts), Gambuh (3 texts). The folktales convey allegorical meanings through human and animal characters. Substantively, the folktales in the SAA manuscript reflect aspects of human life, including traits such as character, deceit, incitement, gratitude, carelessness, obedience to orders or prohibitions, leadership, loyalty, justice, and inheritance.
