Abstract

Low levels of learning motivation and critical thinking skills remain challenges in Hindu Religious Education at the elementary level. Students often show low engagement, procrastination, and weak analytical and argumentative abilities. This study examines the effect of differentiated learning oriented to the Catur Pramana learning cycle on the learning motivation and critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students in Cluster II, Buleleng District. The research employed a quantitative approach with a Posttest-Only Control Group Design. A total of 60 students were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a motivation questionnaire and a critical thinking test, and analyzed with MANOVA using SPSS 20.0. The results revealed: (1) a significant difference in learning motivation between students taught with Catur Pramana-based differentiated learning and those taught conventionally (F = 63.915; p < 0.005); (2) a significant difference in critical thinking skills between the two groups (F = 15.398; p < 0.005); and (3) a simultaneous difference in motivation and critical thinking (Wilk’s Lambda = 11.936; p < 0.005). The experimental group achieved higher average scores, categorized as high, compared to the control group, which remained in the moderate category. In conclusion, integrating differentiated learning with the Catur Pramana learning cycle is proven effective in enhancing both learning motivation and critical thinking skills. These findings highlight the potential of Hindu local wisdom as a pedagogical innovation to strengthen the quality of elementary education.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the recognition that effective parenting should not only fulfill children’s physical and emotional needs but also instill religious values and moral virtues as the foundation of character formation. Prophetic parenting represents an educational concept inspired by the nurturing methods and exemplary character of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), emphasizing spiritual, emotional, and moral development through compassion, justice, and a humane approach. The purpose of this research is to explore the process of internalizing Islamic values through the implementation of prophetic parenting within orphanage settings, focusing on Darul Aitam Orphanage and Al Washliyah Ismailiyah Orphanage in Medan, Indonesia. This study employs a qualitative multi-site design to obtain an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon across different contexts. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed descriptively using data reduction, data display, and conclusion-drawing techniques. The findings reveal that both orphanages implement prophetic parenting through caregivers’ exemplary conduct, support for children’s potential, fairness in fulfilling their needs, gradual educational guidance, and the reinforcement of religious observance. These practices foster children’s discipline in worship, learning motivation, empathy, and emotional stability. The study concludes that prophetic parenting contributes positively to the development of children’s character and spiritual growth, although challenges remain regarding resource limitations and the diversity of children’s backgrounds.

Abstract

The practice of religious traditions and rituals in graveyards often causes controversy because some people consider them to be elements of shirk. However, these traditions remain alive, as seen in the batumbang ritual in Satiruk Village. This study aims to analyze how the Qur'an is brought to life and applied in local culture through the batumbang tradition`, as well as to understand the integration of Islamic teachings in local cultural practices. This study uses the living Qur'an theory and Emile Durkheim's Cultural Paradigm theory as its analytical framework. The method used is qualitative with a field research approach that includes observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The results show that the batumbang tradition serves as an expression of the community's gratitude for the fulfillment of their vows by combining Islamic teachings, such as the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Surah Yasin, with local cultural practices. In the context of Durkheim's Cultural Paradigm theory, this ritual reflects four main pillars, namely sacredness as seen in the ritual at the grave of a religious figure, role classification in the ritual, rites reflected in the recitation of Surah Yasin, and solidarity formed through togetherness in prayer and food sharing. The batumbang tradition also reflects the application of the living Qur'an, in which the teachings of the Qur'an are translated into social practices that strengthen social bonds and religious understanding among the local community. This study concludes that the batumbang tradition illustrates the synergy between Islamic teachings and local culture, which reinforce each other.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the cultural coaching for prospective hajj pilgrims through the sesucen bath ritual in Jangga Village, Losarang District, Indramayu Regency. This ritual is a form of spiritual purification performed prior to the hajj pilgrimage as a preparation for inner readiness. The research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal three main aspects. First, the sesucen bath ritual is carried out through several stages: the shalat safar prayer, recitation of ruqyah verses, purification bathing, religious briefing by local clerics, joint prayer, the call to prayer, and walking on a shroud cloth as a symbol of spiritual protection. Second, the pilgrims understanding of the ritual varies; some perceive it as a valid form of spiritual strengthening based on Qur’anic verses, while others regard it as an unnecessary additional practice not required by Islamic law. Third, the cultural coaching encompasses four dimensions: cultural-religious, social-relational, managerial, and religious moderation. The study concludes that a cultural coaching grounded in religious moderation effectively maintains a balance between Islamic values and local cultural traditions, offering strategic recommendations for religious leaders to prepare hajj pilgrims who are spiritually, socially, and managerially ready without neglecting their cultural roots.

Abstract

Learning in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the elementary school level continues to face challenges, particularly in instilling akhlaqul karimah (noble character values) in a way that is contextual and meaningful for students. A potential solution to address this issue is through the innovation of learning models that integrate Islamic values with local cultural wisdom found in students’ environments. This study aims to develop and validate an innovative learning model for PAI based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL), focused on the habituation of practicing akhlaqul karimah and Islamic manners through the integration of Batak and Pakpak cultural values in Dairi Regency. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design adapted from the Borg & Gall model, which was modified into seven stages. The developed learning model refers to the five main syntax components of PBL, namely: (1) orienting students to contextual problems, (2) organizing students for investigation, (3) guiding inquiry activities, (4) developing and presenting learning products, and (5) analyzing and evaluating the learning process. The validation results showed that the syntax model achieved a score of 90% (very valid), while the validation of the learning materials, such as student worksheets, reached 96% (very valid). The findings revealed that implementing a PBL model based on local culture is effective in enhancing students’ understanding of Islamic moral and ethical values, while also fostering tolerance, cooperation, and respect for diversity. Therefore, this innovative learning model is recommended for application in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning that emphasizes local cultural wisdom as a means to strengthen students’ character formation.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the erosion of the younger generation's understanding of the indigenous knowledge of the Gringsing Lubeng motif among Tenganan Pegringsingan people is the central issue of this research, driven by globalization and the economic shift to tourism, which threatens the transmission of knowledge. This study aims to uncover how indigenous knowledge in the Lubeng motif functions as a tool for identity preservation and to analyze the Tenganan community's adaptation strategies in responding to the challenges of modernity. This study uses qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach to uncover the emic perspective through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions (FGDs). Data were analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model and Spradley's ethnographic analysis. The results show that the indigenous knowledge of Gringsing Lubeng is a living knowledge system manifested in three domains: the sacred materiality of Tridatu, double ikat technology as embodied knowledge, and the symbolism of the Lubeng motif as a wearable cosmogram. This motif maps the Bali Aga cosmology, where the Tapak Dara symbol represents the fundamental values of Tri Hita Karana, and the scorpion serves as an apotropaic symbol (a deterrent to disaster). This knowledge serves as material agency in lifecycle and communal rituals. It is concluded that the indigenous knowledge of Gringsing Lubeng functions as a holistic identity defense system. The community's layered adaptation strategies, including upholding customary rules (awig-awig), everyday resistance through slow production, and a cultural firewall strategy by intelligently creating commercial products (Idup Anak), successfully protect the sacredness of core heritage amidst the pressures of commercialization.

Abstract

Married students often face dual roles that hinder the effectiveness of completing their final assignments, making Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) an essential skill for maintaining academic performance. This study aims to analyze how SRL is implemented by final-semester married students at UIN Palangka Raya in completing their thesis work. A qualitative case study design was employed, involving ten participants selected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that 8 out of 10 participants experienced significant time constraints due to household and work responsibilities, while 6 participants reported stress caused by repeated thesis revisions. Field data show diverse SRL strategies: Hanida could only work on her thesis between Zuhr and Asr after leaving her child with family; Nania woke up at 04:00 to manage household duties before work; Aulia completed thesis tasks during quiet hours at his shop; and Jannah temporarily stopped writing due to baby blues before resuming her thesis with parental support. Additional barriers included financial difficulties such as losing a laptop, learning loafing, and academic burnout that led students to seek new study environments such as cafés. The study concludes that SRL functions as an adaptive mechanism enabling married students to balance academic demands and family responsibilities, and their success is strongly influenced by structured planning, disciplined time management, stable motivation, and consistent social support from spouses, parents, and peers.

Abstract

Fostering good morals is an important part of madrasa education, but at MA Darul Amin Palangka Raya, students are still found to lack discipline and lack polite behavior. This study aims to describe the role of Akidah Akhlak teachers in fostering good morals in students and to identify strategies, supporting factors, and inhibiting factors. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained through observations of learning and religious activities, interviews with Akidah Akhlak teachers, the madrasah principal, the deputy head of curriculum, and students, as well as supporting documentation. The results show that Akidah Akhlak teachers play a role through role models, positive behavioral habits, educational reprimands, and a personal approach. Teachers also actively guide students in religious activities such as tadarus, dhuha prayer, and religious studies so that moral values are more easily internalized. Supporting factors for fostering come from a religious madrasah environment, scheduled religious programs, and leadership support. Inhibiting factors include external environmental influences and unstable student discipline. This study concludes that the development of noble morals will be effective if exemplary behavior and religious activities are carried out consistently and supported by a conducive madrasa environment.

Abstract

Persons with hearing disabilities in Palangka Raya continue to face obstacles in accessing Electronic Identity Card (KTP-El) services, particularly due to communication barriers and the limited availability of disability-friendly facilities. This study aims to formulate an innovative KTP-El service model based on the principles of Islamic jurisprudential justice through the development of “SiTelinga,” a system designed to accommodate the specific needs of the hearing-impaired. A qualitative approach was employed using a literature study of population administration regulations and Islamic legal concepts related to justice and ease (raf‘u al-haraj).  The findings indicate that the service innovations developed—such as enhanced visual communication, sign language interpreter support, staff training, and disability-inclusive service programs—effectively reduce communication barriers and improve service quality. From the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence, these innovations align with the principles of al-‘adalah (justice), al-masyaqqah tajlibu al-taysīr (facilitating ease in the presence of hardship), and the objectives of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah in safeguarding public welfare.  In conclusion, SiTelinga has the potential to serve as an inclusive KTP-El service model for persons with hearing disabilities grounded in Islamic jurisprudential justice, offering not only alignment with Islamic ethical principles but also a promising contribution to the development of inclusive public services in other regions.
