Abstract

To overcome the ozone layer depletion problem, the Indonesian government has ratified the Montreal protocol and its amendments. The import of R-12 refrigerant to Indonesia has been banned since the end of 1997. Meanwhile, most of Indonesian milk cooling units use R-12. Therefore, it is expected that these cooling units have to be switched to other refrigerant soon. Almost all of Indonesian milk cooling units belong to small or medium dairy cooperatives that cannot aflord to retrofit their systems to R-134a. In this research, a milk-cooling unit designed for R-12 was directly switched to propane/butane refrigerants (propane-isobutane, and propane/n-butane refrigerants) without any modification. The performances of the milk-cooling unit operated with propane/isobutane, propane/n-butane and R-12 gefiigerants were investigated. It was found that propane/n~bntane refligerant is the most eflicient, and followed by propane/isobutane and R-12. Results of several other milk cooling units were also reported.

Abstract

Usaha menufu standarisasi kekasaran permukaan telah dilakukan secara intensif sejak dua dekade terakhir ini Hasil-hasil usaha tersebut temyata belumlah nampak secara nyata. Dalam paper singkat ini akan dibahas hal-hal yang menjadi dasar dilaksamkamya usaha-usaha tersebut, parameter-parameter kekasaran permukaan yang diusulkan serta kesulitan-kesulitan yang dihadapi dalam mencapai tujuan akhir dari usaha tersebut.

Abstract

This paper deals with one-dimensional dynamic modelling and simulation of deep -bed com drying by two-phase model or heterogeneous model The models consider mass and heat transfer process within grain and drying air phase. This model also considers moisture content and temperature gradient within grain. The coupled of partial differential equations developed, then solves numerically by finite difference with altemating direction implicit method algorithm. The dynamic models predict not only humidity and temperature of outlet drying air, but also grain moisture content and temperature. The simulated profiles are compared with expenmental data, taken from available literature. The models can describe corn grain drying process in deep -bed dryer. However, the model parameters should be modified to get drying characteristic profiles that closed to the experimenal data.

Abstract

This paper discusses the implementation of a fuzzy logic controller on a precision straight-line motion mechanism. The precision straight-line motion mechanism, which is studied in this research, is a mechanism that was built to study methods of precision positioning. For this mechanism, a conventional PID (Proportional, Integral, and Derivative) controller will not beable to produce good performances because of non-linearity behavior of this mechanism. This paper shows that a fuzzy logic controller based on knowledge of a human (an operator) can solve this nonlinearity problem.

Abstract

Typically, mechanical vibration signature analysis is one of the essential steps in predictive maintenance activity for rotating machines. This paper discusses a study on the use of motor current signature analysis as a complement to the vibration signature analysis in identifying broken rotor bar in 3-phase induction motors. From literature study[5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11], it was summarized that the presence of rotor bar faults can be detected through the increase in (1x rpm ± Fs x p) side-bands amplitude of mechanical vibration. In addition, this type of fault is also signified by the increase in (1 ± 2s)Fl side-bands amplitude of motor current. Furthermore, the amplitude of the left side-band of supply current spectra can be used to estimate fault severity.To prove the validity of the theory and to study its feasibility for practical use, experimentation was conducted using a small 2-pole motor of ¼ hp, coupled with a generator. Spectral analysis performed on motor current and body vibration shows results as predicted by the theory.

Abstract

Dalam tulisan singkat ini akan diberikan suatu contoh pemakaian teknik parameter identification untuk memperoleh besaran-besaran aerodinamis pesawar udara dari hasil uji terbang. Oleh karena belum tersedianya data uji terbang yang sebenarnya, maka dalam contoh yang akan dibahas, data uji terbang diganti dengan data yang dihasilkan dari persatuan non linear pesawat udara. Parameter yang akan diidentifikasikan adalah koefisien-koefisien yang biasa dipergunakan dalam persamaan gerak linear suatu pesawat udara. Tanpa mengurangi arti yang penting dari proses pengidentifikasian paramter terbang, metoda yang dibahas di sini dapat dipakai langsung pada proses pengolahan data uji terbang yang sebenarnya.

Abstract

Untuk kondisi tertentu seperti di tempat penambangan bawah tanah, atau pada pemadam kebakaran, pengkondisian udara individual sering sangat diperlukan untuk dapat menjagatiap individu pada tingkat yang optimal. Untuk tujuan ini, sistem pengkondisian udara yang konvensional tidak lagi tepat untuk diterapkan. Sistem pendinginan tabung vorteks meskipun ditinjau dari segi COP kurang, tampaknya mempunyai pelluang yang cukup besar untuk dapat memenuhi tujuan tersebut. Dalam tulisan ini, dibahas tentang gejala-gejala yang terlibat dalam pendinginan tabung vorteks. Realisasi perangkat pengujiannya bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan kepada para mahasiswa tentang efek pendinginan vorteks serta berbagai penerapannya melalui suatu praktikum percobaan.

Abstract

Research and development of Robot Vision activity requirs a Moving platform with high mobility on translation as well as rotation movement. Omnidirectional vehicle reported here has optimum planar movement in the form translational movement on any direction as well as turning radius from zero to infinity, therefore it is suitable as a moving platform for research activities on 2 dimensional Robot Vision. Testing and measurement on the accuracy of vehicle straight trajectory on different direction have been carried out. Some error compensation algorithm has been applied and some good results on reducing trajectory errors have been observed.

Abstract

Baja karbon (low carbon steel) dikenal sebagai bahan peka laju regangan (strain-rate dependent material), bentuk hubungan tegangan—regangannya tergantung dari laju regangan. Mesin ujitarik, seperti mesin Instron misalnya, hanya menghasilkan diagram tegangan regangan sampai pada laju regangan έ = 10-4 sec-1. Untuk laju regangan yang lebih tinggi, beban pada spesimen harus diberikan sebagai beban kejut (impact) yang selanjutnya menimbulkan fenomena perambatan gelombang regangan.Salah satu cara untuk menentukan persamaan konstitusi (constitutive equation) baja karbon adalah dengan mengajukan bentuknya dalam persamaan diferensial dan kemudian mencek keberlakuannya pada problem perambatan gelombang regangan yang dikuasai oleh sistem persamaan diferensial parsial hiperbolik.Makalah ini menyajikan hasil solusi numerik persamaan diferensial parsial hiperbolik masalah perambatan gelombang regangan satu dimensi pada batang semi-infinite dari bahan pekalaju  regangan dengan metoda karakteristik, yaitu merubah persamaan diferensial parsial menjadi persamaan diferensial biasa sepanjang garis-garis karakteristiknya.

Abstract

In this research, a simulation method has been developed for designing a solar air conditioner and predicting its perfomances. This simulation based on solar irradiation data, solar collector performance data, LiBr-H2O absorption chiller single effect performance data, Phase Change Material (PCM) data as its inputs. Napthalene is used for HTTS and acetic acid is used for TTS. Energy balance, mass balance, and characteristic equations of each component are used in the solar air conditioning simulation. Validation of the developed simulation model was done with experiment data for solar air conditioning system with HTTS and LTTS without auxiliary heater. Generally, the tendency of the simulation and experiment results are similar. The application of HTTS and LTTS make the system can be operated more in 100 minutes.
