Abstract This research was aimed to analyze the effect of “The Super family TV Quiz” on students’ reading comprehension skill. The preliminary research shows that there are two main factors which become issues in reading comprehension. It arise from the teacher’s side and from the students’ side. From the student’s side, it is caused by students’ limited vocabulary that make them cannot comprehend the text and cannot be motivated. From the teacher’s side, the problem is caused by the use of conventional technique (Questioning techniques and pictorial context) in pre-reading activity. This research was conducted by using an experimental research design and the population of this research was 68 business students in the second grade of SMK N. 3 Padang. Those students are divided in two classes; experimental group and control group. Both group received different treatment. The experimental group was treated by using the activities which were adapted in the superfamily TV Quiz while the control group was treated by using pictorial context (conventional technique). The score in post-test of the students in experimental group differs significantly from the students in control group after calculating it by using t formula. The value of t calculated (3,32) is higher than the value of t table (2.00). So, it is logic to say that the used of the “Super Family” TV quiz in pre-reading activity has a significant effect on reading comprehension

ABSTRACT While talking about Asian literature, some confusing points need to be discussed. There are some styles of Asian writing found in the literature market; Asian literature that arrives with the English-translation model, one that has been already written in English by the Asian authors, and one written by a Western author. Asian literature covers works of writing produced by Asians in a variety of countries in Asia. The development of this literature is supported by the use of the English language in form of translation, and the emergence of English authors who write about Asian culture. For the growth of Asian Literature’s styles, this paper attempts to analyze three different styles of Asian novels; English-language novel, English-translation novel, and Western-author novel to define and classify it. The investigation of the theme; Asian resistance toward colonialism and Asian critique toward Western culture will be conducted under the scope ofOrientalism. The discussion of the nature of language and culture in Asian writing will justify the definition and classification of Asian literature as well. Subsequently, this paper detects Asian Literature as a work that must be written by Asian authors, thus it can strongly declare the real root ofAsian culture, tradition, value, belief, and feeling. It should be classified as works by native Asian authors and English-translation works as well.

ABSTRACT Knowledge advancement in the field of technology is often considered an advantage. Humans are living alongside the disadvantages. Dependency ontechnological inventions has brought humans to a threshold where technology goes beyond humanity. This occurrence thus possibly leads todehumanization. Two problems are proposed in this research: forms of mechanistic dehumanization and bad impacts of mechanistic dehumanization. The forms of mechanistic dehumanization focus on acts of human degradation while the bad impacts of mechanistic dehumanization focus on the human that represents machine and robot. Michel Foucault’s sociological theory is applied to reveal the problems proposed in this research. Two of Foucault’s concepts are considered appropriate to be utilized: Power and Knowledge and the Regime of Truth. Both concepts emphasize the practice of power imposed on the powerless and theacceptance by the powerless. The finding discloses that one who poses power and knowledge can produce laws that are imposed toward thepowerless and shape them as the powerful wish to obtain the benefit. The powerless ought to be submissive, obedient even accept the truth of lawsunconsciously. People in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World show their unconscious acceptance of the Controller’s laws therefore they are treated and degraded as low as commodities to be made use of by the Controller. They become cold and rigid thus they show no distinction between humans and machines.

It tells about the male main character, Traynor, who chooses to end his life through assisted suicide because he is paralyzed as a result of a motorcycle accident. There are two questions to discuss in this research; the causes of assisted suicide and the causes of objectification. This research uses existentialism theory by JeanPaul Sartre. There are some concepts of theory i.e Freedom, The look, and The body that help this research to describe the causes of assisted suicide and the causes of objectification. The research method used by the writer was the qualitative research method. The result of this research showed that the cause of assisted suicide is the excessive freedom to choose to be free from physical pain and emotional pain. Then, the cause of objectification is the existence of the Other, such as The Look and The body that affect Traynor’s existence when people around him try to change his mind not to commit suicide.

Abstract Arthur Miller was known as an American Playwright who often consider put the theme of a man who has problems or struggles for his internal desire or the society or even his family in his work. This research shows Willy’s struggle as a father to his family’s prosperity. The writer used the sociological approach and Power theory from Michael Foucault to conduct the analysis. Foucault’s theories primarily talked about the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of social control through societal institutions. The writer concluded that in life Willy has a motto to tell his sons which is money is everything and in reality, that motto is not eligible because education is above everything especially in the working world. Willy is obsessed with power. After Willy chooses to do suicide to sacrifice for his family, it finally reveals that Willy is just a normal father who wants his sons to be successful people with his lead as a parent.
