Abstract

Background: Health problems in Indonesia are still largely concerned with the health of the mother. Maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Indonesia has reached 307/100.000 births. The prevalence of pregnant women with iron deficiency is around 35-75%. One effort to overcome this is to monitor the health of the mother and fetus, especially during the period of pregnancy with a visit to the health service. In order to raise awareness for more regular antenatal visits, it requires sufficient knowledge in pregnant women about the dangers of anemia. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship of the level of pregnant women’s knowledge about anemia to the behavior of anemia prevention in Sleman Health Center of Yogyakarta. Methods: This was a quantitative descriptive correlation study using a cross sectional approach. The population was pregnant women who were in the work area of Sleman Health Center, Yogyakarta. The total samples were 78 and data collection used questionnaires. Data analysis used univariable and bivariable analysis. The results: The level of pregnant women’s knowledge on anemia was mostly on moderate categories (57.7%). Preventive behavior done by the pregnant women was mostly in the categories of risk behaviors of health disorders (48.7%). Statistically there was a significant relationship between the level of pregnant women’s knowledge on anemia and the behavior of anemia prevention with a value of p = 0.000. This shows that there was a correlation between pregnant women’s knowledge on anemia and anemia prevention behavior. Conclusion: Pregnant women’s knowledge on anemia determines maternal behavior in efforts to prevent anemia. To prevent anemia in pregnant women, health workers are expected to provide health education to all pregnant women for health examination. Keywords: Knowledge, anemia, anemia prevention

Abstract

Introduction: National Final Examination (UAN) often gives psychological impacts for students, especially anxiety. If anxiety is allowed to continue, it will give negative impacts on teens, such as a decision to commit promiscuity. Therefore, there are needs for therapies that can reduce the anxiety of students in facing exam, one of which is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFTs). Objective: To determine the effect of EFT on anxiety in the face of UAN at high school students. Methods: The research method was quasi experimental with pretest-posttest design. Prior to therapy, anxiety screening was performed on 137 students using a questionnaire of Pasco-Hernando Community College (PHCC) Anxiety Test. After that, 28 were taken students as the sample divided into 2 groups (control and intervention), each 14 students. The intervention group received 3 times of EFT therapy sessions. Analysis of data was to determine the effect by using a paired t-test and to know the comparison used independent t-test, with α of 0.05. Results: The initial screening results were as follows: mild to moderate anxiety (58, 4%) and moderate to severe anxiety (0.7%). Test results of paired t-test showed p = 0, 046 (p <0, 05). In addition, based on independent t-test, p was 0.000 (p <0.05); thus, the mean value of anxiety of the intervention group was significantly lower than that of the control group. Conclusion: EFT effectively reduced student anxiety in facing UAN in SMA N 1 Pakem, Sleman, Yogyakarta. It is suggested EFT can be used as a non-pharmacological psychological therapy. Keyword: EFT, anxiety, adolescents

Abstract

Background: Efforts to increase exclusive breastfeeding have become a Global Action since 1990. However, exclusive breastfeeding in Yogyakarta in 2010 was still low at 40.57%, still far from the national target of 80%. Several studies have shown that the onset of lactation may be an obstacle of mothers in breastfeeding their babies exclusively. One cause in the delay of the onset of lactation is body mass index (BMI). Objective: To determine the relationship of body mass index (BMI) to the onset of lactation in primiparous postpartum mothers in Panembahan Senopati Hospital of Bantul. Methods: The study design was a prospective cohort with primiparous postpartum mothers as the study subjects. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 62 people. The data were collected using observation sheet instruments. The data were analyzed with univariable and bivariable analysis using Chi-square test with a significance level of p <0.05. Results: Based on the results of the research, overweight BMI with a slow onset of lactation was 30.6%, and with a rapid onset of lactation was 3.2%. Normal BMI with a slow onset of lactation was 6.5%, and with a rapid onset of lactation was 59.7%. The result of Chi-square showed a significance of p value of 0.00 (p <0.05) and a value of contingency coefficient of 0.62. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between BMI and the onset of lactation in primiparous postpartum mothers in Panembahan Senopati Hospital of Bantul. It is recommended that pregnant women prepare themselves for pregnancy in order to keep their body mass index in the normal range to avoid the delay of the onset of lactation. Keywords: Onset of lactation, body mass index, postpartum mothers

Abstract

Background: Improving the nutritional status of the community is one of the basic formation of qualified human resources. Under-five is the most decisive period in human development because it is the most critical period mainly viewed from the aspects of nutrition and health. To achieve optimal growth and development, WHO/UNICEF recommend four important things to do, one of which is providing comple- mentary foods in addition to breast milk (MP-ASI) since infants are aged 6 to 24 months or more. Maternal knowledge about complementary feeding is very important especially if associated with nutritional status as knowledge is included indirect factors that influence nutritional status. Objective: To determine the relationship between the level of maternal knowledge about comple- mentary feeding and the under-five nutritional status in Ngestiharjo Village. Methods: This was an observational, descriptive, analytic study with a cross sectional design. The population was all pairs of mother-under-five, amounting to 190 samples that had been adapted to the criteria of the children aged 6-24 months. Sample was determined with Quota Sampling. Data collection used observation sheets and questionnaires. Analysis used the Kendall Tau test. Results: The level of maternal knowledge about MP-ASI was that the majority was in good category by 87.4%. On the under-five nutritional status, mostly the under-five children had good nutritional status by 84.2%. The result of the hypothesis with Kendall Tau correlation obtained p value = 0.005. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between the level of maternal knowledge about complementary feeding and the under-five nutritional status. Good knowledge about complementary feeding will reduce the risk of lack of nutrition or malnutrition in under-five children. Keywords: Complementary foods in addition to breast milk, nutritional status, under-five

Abstract

Background: The decline in infant mortality is one of the important indicators to measure the success of health development. Various attempts have been made to reduce infant mortality by promoting exclusive breastfeeding. Indonesian Demographic Health Survey (IDHS) year 2003 mentioned that the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding was only 40%; this condition was far from the national target by 80%. Mother's ability to breastfeed should be prepared from pregnancy, especially the second trimester and third trimester. The content of breast milk (ASI) gives a huge benefit for the baby. Breast milk contains balanced nutrition in quantity and quality. The composition of nutrients contained in breast milk is very precise and ideal for the development of the child. In addition, the well-maintained composition of breast milk also makes infants and children healthy. Mother’s knowledge on exclusive breastfeeding affects maternal behavior in exclusively breastfeeding their children. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship of the level of mother’s knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding to breastfeeding. Methods: This was a descriptive analytic study with a cross sectional approach. The research was conducted in BPS (privately practicing midwife) Endang Purwaningsih of Bantul in September 2009- February 2010. The samples in this study were some of the mothers who had children aged > 6 months as many as 30 mothers. The instrument used a questionnaire. Data analysis used Chi-square. Results: The level of mother’s knowledge on exclusive breastfeeding was mostly good (43.3%) and infants who were exclusively breastfed was 60%. From the analysis of the chi-square test, the value of p= 0.04 (p <0.05), with a correlation coefficient of 0.41. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between the level of mother's knowledge on exclusive breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding. The correlation between the two variables was positive with a moderate degree of closeness in the relationship. Mother’s knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding needs to be upgraded to the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Keywords: Knowledge, breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding

Abstract

Background: Labor or childbirth is a very tough fight for a mother; the mother in this process does not escape from fear. Fear is usually caused by the lack of emotional support, especially from the husband. Most mothers who deliver babies rarely accompanied by their husband are more depressed after childbirth. Husband's presence during childbirth makes a shorter delivery time, so the pain is also reduced, and the birth canal laceration is also rarer because the birth canal is more elastic. However, until present, husbands have not been able to show their full support for deliveries where 68% of births are not accompanied by husbands. Suami SIAGA (ALERT Husband) program implementation has not been carried out and has not become routine antenatal care program. This can affect the psychology of the mother. Objective: To determine the effect of husband support quality on the anxiety experienced by mothers in labor at BPS (privately practicing midwife) Endang Purwaningsih of Bantul in Yogyakarta. Methods: This was a quasi experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design without control. The sample size was 30 that had been adapted to the criteria, ie labor accompanied by the husband, the active phase of the first stage of labor, singleton pregnancy, and parity 1-3. Sampling technique used Accidential Sampling. Data were collected by using observation sheets and check lists. Analysis of the data used parametric technique ie normality test using Kolmogorov Smirnov and inferential analysis with paired t-test. Results: The results of the husband support quality assessment showed that the average of husband support was good. The measurement result of maternal anxiety levels was known that pretest and posttest values showed the same condition that most of the mothers in labor had severe levels of anxiety (pretest by 60% and posttest by 53.3%). However, the percentage in the level of anxiety ie panic declined, from 6.6% to 3.3%. The data were normally distributed and paired t-test analysis obtained p value = 0.04 (p <0.05). Conclusion: The higher level of husband support quality led to the lower level of anxiety experienced by mothers in childbirth. Husband is expected to provide emotional support and pay attention to the wife during labor. Keywords: Support quality, anxiety, childbirth

Abstract

Background: One of preventive actions performed on patients in hospital is to prevent the occurrence of anxiety. The trigger of the anxiety is often experienced by patients due to surgery procedure. Patients who could not adjust to their anxiety often have difficulty in pre operations, such as sleep disorders, somatic complaints, digestive disorders, urinary disorders, increased blood pressure, and so forth. Anxiety experienced by patients need to be treated with drugs or with alternative therapies, complementary therapies and energy therapies. Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT) is one of Psychological Energy Therapy (EP) which can be used to balance, restore, and enhance the function of the patient's body by stimulating the energy system in the patient's body. Objective: To determine the effect of TAT on the level of preoperative anxiety in patients in Wates Hospital in Kulon Progo of Yogyakarta. Methods: This was a Quasi-Experimental study with a design of pre test and post test nonequivalen control group. The population in this study was all pre-surgery patients. Samples were taken using accidental sampling technique amounted to 32 (16 intervention and 16 control) in accordance with the criteria. The instrument to measure anxiety was Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). The results were analyzed by two methods, seeing the impact of the intervention on anxiety with Wilcoxon test and comparing the anxiety levels between groups (intervention and control) using Mann Whitney test. Results: A decrease in anxiety levels occurred after TAT intervention was given (pre-test moderate anxiety by 62% and post-test mild anxiety by 69%). Wilcoxon Signed Rank test results in the intervention group obtained p-value of 0.314. The results of post-test anxiety levels with Mann Whitney in the control and intervention group obtained p-value of 0.037. Conclusions: TAT interventions undertaken could reduce the level of patient preoperative anxiety. In providing a good and comprehensive service to patients who will be undergoing surgery, there is a need to give complementary therapies such as energy psychology therapy like TAT. Keywords: Pre-operative patients, anxiety, Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT)
