Abstract

Natural zeolite modification with the addition of ammonium salt variations was conducted. The modification was conducted by demineralization method, dealumination and followed by activation of ammonium salt. The types of activators were ammonium chloride, ammonium nitrate and ammonium fluoride. The effect of ammonium salt was assessed through acidity parameter with Si/Al ratio variable and applied catalyst for catalytic cracking of waste cooking oil. The results showed that the activation of natural zeolite by using ammonium chloride salt could increase the acidity of natural zeolite with the highest Si/Al ratio about 15.56. Based on the XRF analysis showed that the reduced amount of Na metal in zeolite about 92.8%. The effect of ammonium salt variation on the acidity of natural zeolites was observed by applying a catalyst in the catalytic cracking of waste cooking oil. Physical characteristic of catalytic cracking products from waste cooking oil indicated all products fulfill the solar standards requirement. The results concluded that ammonium chloride salt was the best activator in natural zeolite modification and generally all ammonium salts gave high acidity effect to natural zeolite in catalytic cracking of waste cooking oil.

Abstract

Amalgamation use mercury in mining process especially small-scale gold mining and it has been impacted on mercury contamination in environment. Mercury is one of heavy metal that toxic and can accumulate in water, soil and organism. Adsorption method is one of alternative option that effective to remove heavy metal. This method depends on adsorbent type, pH, adsorbent composition with metal or presence of several metal ions. Beside mercury, wastewater of mining gold have another metal ions such as Pb(II), Cu(II) dan Fe(II) can be found by human activity or naturally present. This research aim is to study effect of Pb(II), Cu(II), and Fe(II) in Hg(II) adsorption by using Sargassum crassofolium adsorbent. Research stages are adsorbent activation and mercury adsorption on binary and ternary system respectively in equimass amount of metals ion and equimolar amounts of metals. Based on adsorption analysis is known that Pb(II) and Cu(II) is Hg(II) competitor while Fe (II) is not Hg(II) competitor in adsoption by using Sargassum crassifolium. On binary system in equimass amount of metals ion and equimolar amounts of metals that the largest decreasing effect of Hg(II) adsorption in system contain Cu(II).

Abstract

Cellulose is one of the largest components in corncobs. Cellulose was obtained from corncob in this research that has a yield of 19.6% of 20 grams of corncob powder. The isolated cellulose was characterized by using FTIR and SEM. Cellulose has crystalline chain and insoluble in water or organic solvents. The molecular chain of cellulose is linear and has intra- and inter-molecular hydrogen bonds. One way for cellulose to be easy in the treatment of applications, is to convert microcrystalline cellulose into nanocrystalline cellulose. Nanocrystalline cellulose can be obtained by several methods, one of them by acid hydrolysis. Hydrolysis of cellulose by using sulfuric acid produces nanocrystalline cellulose. Nanocrystalline cellulose can be characterized by using TEM and PSA analysis. CNC 60 has a particle size distribution with a diameter range of 14.3 nm - 45.0 nm and an average diameter of 17.4 nm. Whereas cellulose with CNC 90 has a smaller particle size distribution with a diameter range of 10.0 nm - 17.1 nm and an average diameter of 11.9 nm.

Abstract

Computational calculation has been done for anthocyanin, tocoferol and they derivatives. The computational calculation was conduct to know the compound potential of anthocyanin, tocoferol and they derivatives as active material on organic solar cell. Computational calculation was done by used Gaussian 03 for windows with ab inito alternative electron structure theory namely Density Functional Theory (DFT) with B3LYP method at basis set 6-31G (d). Computational calculation obtains that the structure of anthocyanin, tocoferol and they derivatives were symmetrical. There were two compounds of anthocyanin (A1 and A5) and two compounds of tocoferol (T3 and T4) which more stable than the others compounds. The compounds had lowest energy gap were consist of A1= 0.12629 eV, A5= 0.12570 eV, T3= 0.19334 eV and T4= 0.19231 eV. The moment dipole from compound of anthocyanin, tocoferol and they derivatives had highest value, they were A1 and T1 while the total energy had lowest value they A2 and T1. The Substituent methoxy and hydroxy were added the density load of C atom was substituted so it would increase the activity of the phenyl ring on anthocyanin and they derivatives, while substituent methyl and hydroxy were added the density load of C atom was substituted so it was increase the activity of the phenyl ring on tocoferol and they derivatives. For compounds of anthocyanin main orbital populations showed that there were load transfer only from middle chain (ether) and compounds of tocoferol main orbital populations showed that there was load transfer only from phenyl ring. The method of density functional B3LYP/6-31G(d) would be applied to structure prediction and electronic characteristic of anthocyanin, tocoferol compounds and they derivatives before synthetic.
