Abstract

Primary hypertension is the most common type of hypertension. Previous studies have proved the effect of slow deep breathing on reducing blood pressure however there was still limited study to examine the effect on primary hypertension particularly in elderly population. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of slow deep breathing exercises in reducing blood pressure among older adults with primary hypertension. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was used in this study. A total of 16 participants were selected through purposive sampling from the elderly population in a village in Lhokseumawe City. Researchers conducted slow deep breathing 15 minutes during 5 day and blood pressure was measured manually using a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon signed-rank method. The analysis indicated a statistically significant reduction in average systolic blood pressure, decreasing from 153.8 mmHg to 135 mmHg, along with a decline in diastolic pressure from 90 mmHg to 83.8 mmHg (p < 0.05). These results indicate the effectiveness of slow deep breathing exercises in decreasing blood pressure and may serve as an adjunct therapy for hypertensive elderly individuals. It is recommended that hypertensive older adults regularly practice this exercise in addition to taking prescribed medications to support blood pressure control.

Abstract

LBP (Low Back Pain) is a pain in the back, especially in the lower part, which is one of the main reasons for visiting healthcare facilities. Various risk factors have been identified as causes of LBP and disability in LBP patients, one of which is Body Mass Index (BMI). Although several studies have shown that BMI can worsen low back pain, the direct relationship between BMI and the level of disability experienced by patients remains inconsistent and inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between BMI and disability in LBP patients. This type of research was quantitative research with a correlational design. The number of samples in this study was 38 people. The inclusion criteria for the sample in this study were patients with LBP who are still cooperative, fully conscious, and willing to participate as research respondents. The instrument used to measure disability was the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) or the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire, while Body Mass Index (BMI) was measured using the results of weight and height measurements. Data analysis was carried out using computerization to compile the frequency distribution and percentage of each variable, as well as using the the Sperman rank test to determine the relationship between variables. The results showed that 55.26% of respondents had ideal body weight and 55.26% of respondents had moderate disabilities. There is no relationship between BMI and disability in LBP patients. This study recommends research related to interventions that can reduce disability in LBP patients.

Abstract

The development of technology shows an increase the use of online devices including games. Games are fun for various age groups, including children. Game addiction causes psychosocial and mental problems that lead to the risk of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Most previous studies have primarily focused on the prevalence of game addiction or its general impact on children's mental health, without directly examining the potential link between the level of game addiction and symptoms or risk of ADHD in school age children. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between game addiction and the risk of ADHD in school-age children in Ambal District, Kebumen Regency. This research was a descriptive study with survey approach. Data collection was conducted in February 2023 using probability sampling technique, called simple random sampling. The basis calculation uses Slovin formula until minimum number of respondents was obtained 128 repondents. Random sample selection uses RANDBETWEEN function in Microsoft Excel. Total sample was 128 pairs of parents and children in grades 4, 5, and 6 as respondents. The questionnaires were Indonesian Online Game Questionnaire (IOGQ) completed by the children and Indonesia of Assessment for Hyperactive Children's Behavior in Indonesia Scale completed by parents. Data were analyzed using Somers’d correlation test. The results showed that the highest percentage of game addiction in mild addiction category (65.6%) with 36.7% children not at-risk ADHD and 28.9% children at risk ADHD. Correlation results obtained p-value 0.000<0.05 and r = 0.448 which indicates the significant relationship between game addiction and the risk of ADHD with fairly strong relationship strength. The conclusion from this research is fairly strong, significant, and positive relationship between game addiction and the risk of ADHD in school-age children. Based on the results, the researchers suggest that necessary to supervise and monitor children from playing mobile devices, especially playing games. The next research is expected to involve a larger number of respondents, more effective methods, and other factors that have not been explored before.

Abstract

Gouty arthritis is a joint disorder that is on the rise among adults worldwide experiencing pain and swelling. Gouty arthritis often causes significant pain and swelling that can limit physical activity due to joint damage. Recently, lack of detailed information regarding the location pain and swelling. Therefore, this study aimed to identify characteristics (age, gender, BMI, and alcohol consumption), pain location and swelling location in patients with gouty arthritis at a private hospital in Western Indonesia. This study used quantitative methods with a retrospective documentation design. The sampling technique was total sampling, involving 47 medical records from one of the private hospitals in Western Indonesia. Instrument, data analysis The results of the study showed that pain most frequently occurred in the infrapatellar bursa (34%), while swelling was not found in 34% of patients with gout arthritis. The instrument used was a form sheet consisting of demographic data and information regarding location of pain and swelling. The data was analyzed using univariate analysis. Results show that the most pain and swelling were found in the infrapatellar bursa. Further research is recommended to explore effective interventions for managing these symptoms. The high incidence of gouty arthritis in individuals aged 55–65 years highlights the importance of prioritizing screening and early detection efforts for this age group. Given the high frequency of pain and swelling complaints among patients, further research on appropriate management strategies is essential for individuals with gouty arthritis.
