Abstract

Background: Indonesia is still ranked 4th in the world for having low DPT3 immunization coverage among children. Complete basic immunization coverage is targeted at 95% according to the strategic plan of Indonesian Ministry of Health, but it still achieves at 91.1%. This study aims to analyze leader behavior and health center management on immunization program implementation.Method: Quantitative research using a cross-sectional design was conducted at the Puskesmas Biru-Biru Deli Primary Healthcare Center, Serdang District. The research population and samples consist of 122 respondents which include all 121 midwives in 17 villages and one person in charge of immunization services. The survey data were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression test. Results: The chi-square test showed an influence of leadership behavior and management process on immunization program implementation (p = 0.000). In the last stage of logistic regression analysis, one variable that most dominantly affected the program implementation is management process (p = 0.0000; OR = 25,497; 95% CI = 6.475-100.406). The primary healthcare center needs to improve leader’s behavior and management process.

Abstract

Background: Utilization of reproductive health service may improve adolescent health and prevent reproductive health problems in adulthood. However, the proportion of adolescents who uses the available services remains low. Many factors influenced the services use among adolescents. The relation of adolescents’ health literacy and reproductive health service use was not fully understood. This study intended to examine the relationship between health literacy and use of reproductive health counseling service among high school students in one school in Banyumas Regency, controlling other variables (knowledge, acceptability, age, and sex). Method:  A cross-sectional study was conducted in March-April 2021 in one high school (SMA Negeri 4 Purwokerto), Banyumas regency, Central Java Province. Samples were 170 students purposively chosen from the first and second grade who were willing to fill the self-administered online questionnaire. Data of health literacy were collected using eHEALS questionnaire. Other data were obtained using valid and reliable self-design questionnaires. Multiple logistic regression was deployed to analyze the relationship between variables. Results: Health literacy had a significant relationship with the use of reproductive health services among adolescents. The probability of the reproductive health counseling service was doubled if they had a good health literacy level among students who had high acceptability toward the service and were female with an OR value of 2.1 (95% CI 1.01-4.49). In conclusion, adolescent’s health literacy level is associated with the utilization of reproductive health services. Further research is needed to confirm the association between the variables in more extensive settings.

Abstract

Background: The success of COVID-19 control in Indonesia comes to place with active community participation. Community's role in supporting the successful implementation of COVID-19 policy is critical to investigate. This study, therefore, aimed to determine community’s role in supporting the successful implementation of COVID-19 control policies.Method: This study is exploratory research with a cross-sectional approach. Seven Indonesian regencies as research locations were selected purposively. Quantitative data were collected from 2,010 positive-COVID-19 patients and their close contacts through a standardized self-administered questionnaire. In-depth interviews were employed with 79 health center officers. Content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data, and descriptive analysis was for the quantitative data. Results: This study had a relatively balanced gender distribution. There were 26.9% at age of 6-19 years, and 80.9% were in close contact with COVID-19 patients. Most respondents were from primary health care centers, had a bachelor's degree, and had worked for less than five years. Their adherence to health protocols was lower than the group that was not exposed to COVID-19. Most respondents followed health protocols such as hygiene (92.9 %) and cough etiquette (91.5 %). However, COVID-19 quarantine compliance was still low (38.2%), and 90.8% of respondents mostly practiced self-isolation at home. COVID-19 control strategies in each region quite varied. A lack of public awareness and education, flexibility in policy implementation, and a poor reward and punishment system were barriers to COVID-19 control. The community's role in supporting COVID-19 control policies includes helping to communicate COVID-19 risks, assisting healthcare centers in monitoring COVID-19 self-isolation, providing and operating integrated isolation shelters for confirmed cases, and participating as a case tracer.

Abstract

Background: Physical and psychological alteration during adolescence could determine adolescents’ nutritional status, especially for female adolescents. The Indonesian Ministry of Health estimated about 26.5% of female adolescents aged 12 – 18 years in South Sumatera Province were at risk of chronic energy deficiency in 2017. One of the direct predictors which affect nutritional status is eating behavior. The research aims to describe perceived body image and eating behavior of high school female adolescents and find the correlation between these variables.Method: The research applied a cross-sectional design and chose respondents purposively with inclusion criteria i.e., female adolescents at 1st and 2nd grade from four different high schools in Palembang. About 138 respondents completed the questionnaires of body image and eating behavior. The data were analyzed using a chi-square test on SPSS Application. Results: The majority of respondents (55.80%) were not satisfied with their own body shape. Above 15%  were on a diet. However, the respondents’ perception of body image was mostly classified as positive (54.35%), and they also had good eating behavior (56.52%). Body image significantly impacted eating behavior (p = 0.035). Those with positive body image are possibly at 2.210 times chances of having good eating behavior (95%CI: 1.112 – 4.391). Female adolescents have to build self-appreciation, not only based on their physical appearance. The health nutritionists should work together with the government to facilitate them to practice healthy eating behavior which may improve their nutrition status.

Abstract

Background: The family planning program (Keluarga Berencana or KB) is one of the Indonesian government’s efforts to suppress population growth. The program focuses on contraceptive usage. However, in practice, the level of continuity of contraceptive use are still low. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of sources of information and access to health facilities on the continuity of contraceptive use.Method: This quantitative study with a cross-sectional design had 1,195 respondents with an age range of <20 years to >35 years. Data were collected through structured interviews and questionnaires. Univariate data analysis was conducted with frequency distribution; bivariate data analysis utilized crosstabs, and the multivariate analysis used logistic regression. Results: The continuity of contraceptive use was 91.9% among respondents who received information about the family planning program, either orally, on mass media, or electronically, and it was 82.8% among respondents who accessed family planning services. This study found that factors that influence the continuity of contraceptive use were sources of electronic media information (OR = 0.6633; 95% CI = 0.4852 – 0.9067; p = 0.010) and access to family planning services (OR = 2.677; 95% CI = 1.652 – 4.337; p = 0.001). These findings suggest that the sources of information and access to health facilities affect the continuity of contraceptive use.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutrition condition marked by improper growth of body height compared to one’s age. One of the factors that affect stunting is exclusive breastfeeding as breast milk contains macronutrients, micronutrients, and bioactive substances to support the growth and development of children under five and act as an anti-infection. Non-optimal breastfeeding causes children to have inadequate nutrition intake and body immunity, which may result in malnutrition and stunting. This study aims to identify the effects of exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of stunting in children under five.Method: A systematic review was conducted using eight indexed articles with keywords of "Stunting", "ASI Eksklusif" (t/n: Exclusive Breastfeeding), "Gizi Ibu dan Anak (t/n: Nutrition of Mothers and Children)", "Stunting pada Balita (t/n: Stunting in Children Under 5)", "Exclusive Breastfeeding", "Nutritional Status and Exclusive Breastfeeding", and PICOT. Articles published within the last seven years (2014-2020) were selected. The articles should address health education to mothers with children aged < 5 years old without a control group, and should show a relation between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting. Besides, they should be analytical and observational research written in English and Indonesian.  Results: Eight articles selected overall showed that exclusive breastfeeding was significantly related to the incidence of stunting in children under five. Exclusive breastfeeding is protection against stunting as breast milk contains nutritions that can increase body immunity, prevent infection, and nutritional substances for optimal growth and protection from the risks of chronic diseases. Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the significant factors that affects stunting in children under five.
