Abstract

Inductive word picture teaching model is an instructional model used for the students at beginner level at the German Study Program to direct them to complete the complicated tasks applying higher thinking order. This research aimed at discovering the effect of this model towards the students’ writing skill in German. This experimental research applied single design with pre- and post- tests in Faculty of Teachers Education, Pattimura University, Ambon during the second semester of 2013/2014. The result of research showed, the model has significant influence to writing skill. This means, the model forces the students to think inductively in writing. Besides, the model enables them to construct their basic structural analysis systematically.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop social-hub instructional model in teaching mathematics. Taking place in Government Madrasah Aliyah 3, Palembang as from January through June 2013, the research selected the science students of Grade XI as the respondents. As a research and development project, Borg and Gall model was combined with Dick and Carey model to develop social-hub instructional model. To test the model, this research applied experts, one-to-one, small group, and field tests focusing on the student’s interest and learning achievement. The fourth prototype proved the potential design to be effective in the instruction showing 65.63 % of the students interested in the model and the average of mastery learning was 82.66. The findings conclude, the model developed is valid and applicable in teaching mathematics and effective in improving the student’s learning motivation in mathematics.

Abstract

This classroom action research was conducted as from February through April 2013 at Government Primary School 1, Semester 1, School Year of 2013/2014. The research subjects are the students of Grade VI. The purpose of the research was to improve the teaching-learning process in Mathematics. After 2 cycles, the students’ learning achievement significantly improved. Based on the students’ learning activities and achievement, it was concluded, the cooperative instructional model Jigsaw can be used to improve the student’s achievement in Mathematics particularly in the topic of even numbers in Grade VI, Primary School.

Abstract

Social science is closely related to the human life and social Science helps the students to develop his/her logic beside value and morality. However social science tend to be recital and the information and the knowledge the student obtains are verbal products. The social science characteristics make the instructional process is dominated by expository approach and the teacher mostly uses oral method. This research aimed at improving the student’s learning achievement at Government Elementary School 9, Grade V, in Rawamangun, East Jakarta, by applying talking stick method. The research conducted as from July through September 2014, employed classroom action research with Kemmis and Taggard’s model. The finding indicated talking stick method is effective to improve the student’s learning achievement.

Abstract

This study aimed at producing a set of contextual-learning based training package for teachers of inclusive school to teach hearing impaired students. The absence of the instructional packages for hearing impaired students and the lack of the teachers’ competence at inclusive school were underlied the need for this research. Borg and Gall’s Research and Development methods were employed in this study and Instructional Development Model (MPI) was applied to develop the package. At the end, the research produced a set of contextual-learning-based training package for teachers to teach hearing impaired students, it included the design of training, user’s guide for instructure and participant, 4 modules with soft-copy (CD) of training materials that had been tested for the effectivity, efficiency, and feasibility. Besides, the research provided a number some of recommendation.

Abstract

Based on the curriculum of the unit level of education or school-based curriculum (KTSP), the thematic earning is designed to be implemented at the lower grades of primary school, namely grade 1, 2, and 3. However, in the Curriculum of 2013 the thematic learning is designed to be applied at all grades from 1st grade to the 6th grade, and even at the higher school levels. The purpose of this study was to describe the constraints faced by the lower grade elementary school teachers in developing the lesson plans, selecting the media, and deciding on the use of the appropriate thematic learning methods. Moreover, this study was to describe the constraints in implementing the thematic learning in the lower grade classrooms. The subjects of this qualitative research were lower grade teachers of elementary school in Bangka Belitung province. The data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observation, and review of lesson plan documents formulated by the teachers. The results showed, the constraints experienced by the teachers included the difficulty in developing the thematic lesson plan, determining the method, selecting the media, and preparing the evaluation tools. From this study it can be concluded that the application of the thematic learning in lower grades will experience problems if the teachers are not creative and do not have a broad understanding of the selected theme in relation to the subjects combined.

Abstract

This research investigates conceptual framework and empirical bases of web-based self-help therapeutic intervention as an alternative programme to enhance students’ study skills in higher education. Urgency to provide online services through web-based self-help therapeutic intervention is indicated by students’ digital participation and study skills result. In this study, 326 college students participated in the survey involving 7 faculties in The State University of Jakarta. The result shows that more than fifty per cent of undergraduate students in State University of Jakarta have low study skills. This condition has to proactively respond by online programme provision due to boost students’ achievement. As an active participant in digital world, students would prefer more to online services namely self-help web-based therapeutic intervention. Based on the findings, suggestions and implication were made for Tanya Binga website.

Abstract

The students’ achievement are influenced by internal and external factors. The aim of this research was to determine the factors that affect the students’ exact capability at The Faculty Tarbiyah and Teaching, IAIN, STS Jambi. The data were obtained from the questionnaire and documentation of student achievement in basic mathematics, general biology, basic chemistry and physics from 194 students of 2012 registration. The questionnaire consisted of two quantitative variables and 16 qualitative variables. The qualitatif variables were transformed into quantitative using dummy variables and analyzed with regression dummy. The analysis shows three factors that significantly affect the students’ exact capability, i.e marriage status, majoring in secondary schools, and the choice of majors in the university. Further analysis shows, the students with married status have an odds ratio of 2,15 times of the students who have not married in obtaining the score under the average; the students from major IPA have an odds ratio 3,33 times of non IPA students. The students who chose the present majors as the first option have an odds ratio 0,75 times of students who chose other majors in obtaining exact scores under the average. Therefore, to improve the ability of the exact students of mathematics, physics and biology, should science majors should become a rquirement in selecting prospective students.

Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to find out the factors affecting the poor speaking skill of semester four students at the English Department, Faculty of Teachers Training, Artha Wacana Christian University, Kupang. The research was conducted in the Academic Year 2013/2014 to the fourth semester students who had passed the lectures of Speaking One, Speaking Two and Speaking Three. The participants of the research were the students with the low marks ranked from the lowest level where twenty students were taken as the research subjects. The research result shows that there are twelve factors affecting the students’poor speaking skills: psychological factors, poor vocabulary-related factor, peer-related factors, pronunciation related factors, grammar related factor, personality factor, L1 interference related-factor, teacher-related factor, teacher’s poor teaching method, environmental factor, motivation factor, and cross-cultural factor. Those are the main factors that have contributed to the speaking skills.

Abstract

At an educational institution student’s character building is done inherently in the instructional process. The purpose of this research was to describe the size of contribution given by the lecturer’s professionalism and model separately and simultaneously to the student’s character. This quantitative research used correlational approach including all all students of The Nursery Program Study at STIK Bina Husada in Palembang as the research population. The students were of the academic year 2013 who had completed Character Education Course with the total number of 78 students. The results showed the significant contribution of the lecture’s professionalism to the student’s character at amount of 0.112. Meanwhile, the lecture’s model had no significant contribution to the student’s character. The lecture’s professionalism and model simultaneously had significant contribution to the student’s character at amount of 0.135. There are some other factors to study further in the student’s character building.
