Abstract

Fresh graduates need to have work readiness as one of the essential attributes. Work readiness is a condition when fresh graduates ready to succeed in the working world. In Indonesia, studies explaining the measurement scale of work readiness are still limited. This study aims to develop a work readiness scale for undergraduates, which is beneficial for companies, universities, and fresh graduates. The research sample consists of 118 fresh graduates, with no prior work experiences. After several examinations, the scale contains 49 items. As a result, the construct validity test using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) shows that the developed instrument can measure the work readiness construct. The results of the reliability test using Cronbach's alpha coefficient is .961. This number means that the developed instrument is reliable. The analysis results show that the developed work readiness scale has good validity and reliability.

Abstract

Innovation is an effort to increase the companies' competitiveness in Indonesia in the era of the ASEAN Economic Community and confront the fourth industrial era. Innovative work behavior is an organization's methods to implement innovations and improve performance, excellence, competitiveness, and confront changes in the dynamic external environment. This study aims to examine the effect of self-construal and goal orientation on innovative work behavior by testing hypotheses using multiple regression analysis. Data collection in this study uses an innovative work behavior scale, self-construal scale, and goal orientation scale, an online survey method filled by 168 employees working in the manufacturing industry sectors in Indonesia. The results show that self-construal and goal orientation have a positive effect on innovative work behavior, enhancement in self-construal, and goal orientation to increase employees' innovative work behavior—the contribution of goal orientation significant higher for employees' innovative work behavior than for self-construal contributions. Individuals with goal orientations can help organizations to develop innovation through innovative work behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the work-family conflict plays a role as a mediator in the relationship between work-family culture and employee well-being. Data were gathered from three automotive company branches in Lampung, Indonesia using purposive sampling, with N = 165 (80% male; average age 25 years, SD = 7.90). The analysis method for this study was a simple mediation test with Hayes’ (2013) PROCESS macro. The result of the study showed that there were no significant positive effects of work-family culture on employee well-being, t(162) = .29, p = .76. On the other hand, work-family culture had significant effects on work-family conflict (a = .58) and work-family conflict had significant effects on employee well-being (b = .61). In line with the research hypothesis, there was an indirect relationship between work-family culture and employee well-being through work-family conflict as a mediator (ab = .35). We used the perceived organizational support (POS) theory as a framework and spillover theory to interpret the results. The findings of this study provide insights that it pays off to invest in a work-family culture because such culture is expected to give optimum advantages on well-being at work.

Abstract

Adolescences' excessive online self-disclosure is now a social phenomenon arising in social media use. The adolescences also tend to share their privacy. This study aims to determine whether extraversion personality, perceived privacy risks, the convenience of maintaining relationships, and online self-presentation influence self-disclosure in adolescents. This study involved 619 adolescents (185 male and 434 female) aged 13-22 years (M = 19.39, SD = 1.83). The participants are active social media users collected from several areas in Indonesia. Multiple regression analysis is used to test the hypothesis. The results show that several variables simultaneously affect online self-disclosure in adolescents (R2 = .422; F (4, 614) = 111.944, p < .01). However, in details, online self-presentation does not have a significant effect on online self-disclosure among adolescents. This result shows that personality factors and adolescent perceptions of the low privacy risk on social media, as well as the goal of maintaining social relations with other members of social media, encourage them to be more online disclose on social media.

Abstract

Early childhood development (ECD) has long-life effects on an individual, that were essential for human capital accumulation and contribute to economic growth. This study aimed to analyzed factor that contributed to cognitive development. This study used cross sectional design by purposive sampling technique. Sample study were 61 early childhood 4-5 years old. Data collected by conducting interviews, observation, and anthropometric measurements. Nutritional status data were collected by using anthropometry, psychosocial stimulation was collected by using EC-HOME inventory instrument, and cognitive development was measured using instrument developed by the Department of National Education of Indonesia. Data analysis includes descriptive test, correlation, and regression. There were 23% of children with underweight, 78.7% children get high risk of psychosocial stimulation, and 57.6% have a good cognitive development. The correlation test showed that there were significant association between the psychosocial stimulation and nutritional status to the cognitive development. Regression model also showed that cognitive development was predicted by maternal status (working mothers/housewife), nutritional status, and psychosocial stimulation.

Abstract

Relocation can be a challenging and stressful experience for most international students. The demands of cultural adjustments frequently place international students at greater risk for various psychological problems than students in general. This research aims to describe the relationship between adjustment to college work problems and psychological distress. A cross-sectional survey with a self-completion questionnaire was conducted in a convenience sample of international students in Universitas Indonesia. Using convenience sampling, 107 international students (51.4% male, mean age = 25.7 years, SD = 5.65) completed the Hopkins Symptoms Checklist-25 (HSCL-25), a measurement of psychological distress, and the Mooney Problem Checklist – Adjustment to College Work scale as a measurement of adjustment to college work. Using the HSCL-25 score 1.75 as a cut-off, 28 participants (26.2%) reports a high psychological distress level. Pearson correlation demonstrates that there is no significant correlation between adjustment to college work problems and psychological distress. Further analysis for each adjustment-problem item was carried out to explore specific academic problems faced by international students. We found that the problems “Worrying about examination” (r = .194, p < .05) and “Fearing in failure in college” (r = .218 p < .05) were significantly associated with psychological distress. It is advisable for education institutions that accept international students to provide academic counselors or train local students to help international students.

Abstract

Managing child problem behaviors as early as possible is crucial. Several studies have shown the impact of parenting on child problem behavior; however, the studies did not investigate the influence of paternal and maternal parenting on child behavior separately. This study aimed to test the effect of mothers’ and fathers’ authoritative and authoritarian parenting on child problem behavior. Furthermore, this study examined the influence of family adjustment on parenting styles. Participants were 105 pairs of parents (fathers and mothers). They completed a set of questionnaires assessing their parenting styles, child problem behavior, and family adjustment. Multiple regression analyses resulted in a significant effect of mothers’ authoritative parenting on child emotional problems, as well as significant effects of fathers’ authoritative and authoritarian parenting on child behavioral problems. Another key finding was that parental teamwork predicted the effectiveness of parenting.

Abstract

Friendship intimacy is one of the critical developing aspects of adolescence. Previous research shows that forgiveness has a vital role in the interpersonal relationship. This research aims to find a correlation between forgiveness and adolescent friendship intimacy based on gender. Research’s participant consists of 250 teenagers (125 male and 125 female, M = 16.2, SD = .7, with 15-18 years old age range) in a Pekanbaru school. The sample was collected through convenience sampling. This study used the Friendship Intimacy Scale with α = .82 and Forgiveness Scale, with α = .94. Based on data analysis, a product-moment correlation shows a positive correlation between forgiveness and adolescence friendship intimacy (r = .273, p < .01), which means the higher the level of individual forgiveness is, the higher the friendship intimacy become. The moderator variable analysis shows that gender becomes a relationship moderator variable between forgiveness and adolescence friendship intimacy (p < .01), which means that correlation between forgiveness and friendship intimacy is more substantial on males than females.
