Abstract

The aging population is predominantly predisposed to heart illness. Age is an autonomous danger factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in adults, but this risk is exacerbated by additional factors, including comorbidities. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and the association between comorbidities and cardiovascular disease among late adults in Indonesia. This cross-sectional research utilizes the data national population survey from the Indonesia Family Life Survey wave 5 (2015). Multistage stratified random sampling was utilized to choose the respondents to respond to a structured questionnaire interview, laboratory test, and anthropometric measurements. Multivariable logistic regression was utilized to determine the association. The result was respondents’ age mean was 48.31 (±5.83) years. CVD prevalence was 2.36% (95% CI: 2.07 – 2.70). The final model of a multivariable analysis using multiple logistic regression indicated that CKD (adj. OR = 3.04, 95%CI 1.76 – 5.24, p = <0.001), hyper cholesterol (adj. OR = 2.77, 95%CI 1.20 – 3.90, p = <0.001), stroke (adj. OR = 2.66, 95%CI 1.36 – 5.24, p = 0.004), having hypertension (adj. OR = 1.83, 95% 1.35 – 2.49, p = <0.001), high blood sugar (adj. OR = 1.82, 95%CI 1.17 – 2.86, p = 0.008), were significantly associated with CVD among late adults. Other significant covariate was age (adj. OR = 1.04, 95%CI 1.01 – 1.06, p = 0.003) and sex (adj. OR = 1.43, 95%CI 1.07 – 1.92, p = 0.015). The conclusion was comorbidities, age, and sex was associated with CVD among late adults in Indonesia.

Abstract

COPD is characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation due to blocked airways and alveolar abnormalities caused by noxious particles or gases that can lead to hypoxemia and progress to hypoxia which will result in decreased oxygen saturation and shortness of breath. Actions in overcoming shortness of breath and decreasing oxygen saturation can be done non-pharmacologically, namely the Pursed-Lip Breathing (PLB) technique. This study aims to determine the effect of PLB on increasing oxygen saturation and reducing shortness of breath in COPD patients. This literature review is a search of electronic databases, namely SAGEPub, Pubmed, Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, ProQuest, and DOAJ. The search for articles published from 2016-2021 found 10 relevant articles. The result is that PLB is effective in reducing the physical responses of COPD patients such as hemodynamics, increasing oxygen saturation, and controlling symptoms of shortness of breath. While the psychological response can increase the self-efficacy of COPD sufferers. In conclusion, this PLB technique can be used by nurses as a non-pharmacological approach and reduce negative physical and psychological responses in COPD sufferers.

Abstract

Moist wound healing is a method of treating moist and closed wounds to accelerate the healing process, the growth of new tissue and prevent infection. The survey results found that respondents know moist wound care 66.7%, rarely use the moist method of 53.4%, and use conventional techniques of 73.3%, therefore it takes knowledge, attitude, and a lot of experience to be able to achieve maximum wound care. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with the actions of nurses on wound care using the moist wound healing method at RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan in 2021. The study was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The total population in the study was the same as the total sample size of 62 respondents who were obtained using the total sampling technique in-room RB 2B, RB 3, and the Burn Unit. The results showed that good knowledge was 66.1%, a positive attitude was 82.3%, and taking action according to the SOP was 83.9%. Based on the Fisher exact test, it was obtained a p-value for knowledge, and attitudes of 0.001 (p <0.05), which means that there is a relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and actions of nurses regarding wound care using moist wound healing method. It is hoped that the nurses can increase their knowledge and experience to create a positive attitude in carrying out wound care using the moist wound healing method to accelerate the healing of patients.

Abstract

Early detection of COVID-19 disease in the community is essential, one of the ways is by identifying the symptoms of anosmia (loss of sense of smell) and ageusia (loss of sense of taste). However, it is not yet known how the characteristics of these symptoms can be used as a protocol to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This study aims to obtain an overview of the prevalence and characteristics of anosmia and ageusia in adult patients with COVID-19 in the community setting. Descriptive research with a retrospective approach was used to collect outpatients’ data at Puskesmas Kecamatan Cempaka Putih from May – June 2021. A total of 105 participants from 400 patients were selected using a simple random sampling with inclusion criteria were patients who confirmed positive for COVID-19 based on the results of the PCR Swab and had symptoms of anosmia and ageusia. Demographic data and general symptoms of COVID-19 were obtained from the Epidemiological Investigation of Suspected COVID-19 form from the Ministry of Health recorded in medical records, Data on prevalence and characteristics of anosmia and age were obtained through a questionnaire consisting of 12 questions made in google form format and distributed via WhatsApp to the participant. Descriptive analysis showed that from a total of 105 patients in the community with anosmia and ageusia, 103 patients (98.1%) reported anosmia, 50 patients (47.6%) had ageusia, and 48 patients (45.7%) experienced both symptoms. Patients experienced anosmia before being diagnosed with COVID-19 (62, 60.2%) and ageusia after being diagnosed with COVID-19 (28, 56.0%). The median duration of anosmia in days (IQR) was 7 (2) and ageusia was 5 (4). Anosmia and ageusia are symptoms experienced by an adult patient with COVID-19 in the community setting. These two symptoms need to be recognised as typical symptoms of COVID-19, added to the early detection of COVID-19, and included in the self-isolation protocol. Further research on the impact of anosmia and age on health and long-term decline in sensory function after COVID-19 needs to be done.

Abstract

The quality of nursing care services can achieve optimal results if the workload and existing nurse resources have a balanced proportion. Currently, the quality of nursing care services is still unsatisfactory and influenced by various problems including problems of planning and scheduling nursing staff at each service shift. The purpose of this study was to identify the perception of the head’s room and team leader about the workload and planning of nursing staff at each service shift in Tasikmalaya City Hospital. The results showed that the perception of the head’s room and the team leader were mostly 20 nurses (51.3%) with good categories. The results of the survey using a questionnaire showed that the head’s room and the team leader stated that the daily workload seemed to make nurses tired and bored. Planning for nursing staff at each service shift, according to the head’s room and team leader, should be adjusted to the workload in their environment. Therefore, it is recommended to make adjustments to meet the needs of the nursing staff. Planning analysis needs to be done so that the placement of nurses in each inpatient room can be adjusted to the needs to improve health services, especially nursing services.

Abstract

One of the causes of COVID-19 is a respiratory disorder characterized by mild, moderat to severe pneumonia. Symptomps can be seen by the decrease in oxygen saturation values in patients suffering from COVID-19, causing the patient’s, condition to be critical and must be treated in the ICU. This makes it very possible for patients to experience multi organ failure. The pronation position results in the homogenity of the lung alveoli, so that there is no hyperinflation in the ventral area of the lung and collapse of the dorsal lung, by using the pronation position, the recruitment of oxygentaion by the lungs in the dorsal area increase so that oxygen saturation in the body can increase. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of pronasition positioning on increasing oxygentaion in COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate respiratory distress in patients treated in the non-intubated ICU. The results from the four journals that have been reviewed show that giving a pronation position to COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate ARDS is able to increase oxygen saturation and can pevent patients from being intubated. Conclusion : the use of the prone position in mild to moderate respiratory disorders experience by COVID-19 patients is quite safe to be applied in the ICU treatment room.
