Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, including gastrointestinal cancer, which continues to increase in prevalence. One contributing risk factor is long-term alcohol consumption. This study aims to determine the relationship between alcohol consumption and the incidence of gastrointestinal cancer. The study design used a scoping review through four databases, namely ScienceDirect, PubMed, SpringerLink, and Medline. Articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, with the screening process following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The selected articles were then synthesized using the Guidance for Conducting Systematic Scoping Review (2020) guidelines. A total of seven articles met the criteria. Various types of gastrointestinal cancer related to alcohol consumption were found, including colorectal, esophageal, stomach, and liver cancer, and even breast cancer. Most studies examined current and past patterns of alcohol consumption. Overall, the findings of this study prove that alcohol consumption, whether in the past, present, or cumulative, is associated with an increased incidence of gastrointestinal cancer, especially colorectal cancer.

Abstract

The stability of healthcare around the world is seriously threatened by nurse turnover intention, which is a primary predictor of actual turnover. The necessity to comprehend contributing elements is highlighted by the 47.7% new nurse turnover rate in Korea, which costs over USD 33,733 per nurse. This comprehensive review synthesizes quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods evidence to map factors that influence nurse turnover intention across hospital settings. Using a PRISMA-ScR approach, a literature search for "factors of nurse turnover" in Scopus produced 2,274 articles; 13 of these met inclusion criteria and were subjected to thematic analysis. Four primary areas were identified: leadership style (transformational, toxic, bullying), psychosocial aspects (work-life balance, job satisfaction, distress, and social support), and organizational factors (work environment, mentorship). Work-life balance and job satisfaction reduce risk by 30–40%, while a supportive work environment and adequate resources reduce turnover by 10–20%. While toxic or bullying leadership significantly raises turnover intention (β=0.51), transformational leadership enhances retention by 0.082 per unit. There are significant regional differences; for instance, 81.4% of Kenyan nurses plan to quit because their pay is less than $500 USD, which increases the probability of turnover three to five times. The use of cross-sectional research (76.9%) and the lack of worldwide representation are examples of gaps in the literature. To increase retention, holistic approaches that incorporate transformational leadership training, mental health assistance, healthy workplaces, and equitable pay are crucial.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major global health issue, contributing substantially to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. While pharmacological treatment is well established, interest in non-pharmacological interventions such as heat therapy and wearable heating devices including thermal footwear has increased. However, the research landscape on these interventions has not been systematically examined. This study analyzed global research trends on heat therapy and hypertension from 2000 to 2025 using bibliometric methods, emphasizing wearable technologies. Scopus-indexed publications were identified following PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A total of 133 studies met inclusion criteria. Bibliometric indicators were analyzed using VOSviewer to assess publication growth, major contributors, collaboration networks, co-citation, and keyword co-occurrence, supported by visualization maps. Research output increased steadily, peaking with 20 publications in 2025. Three thematic clusters were identified: population health, physiological function, and thermal/vascular interventions, showing a shift toward focused physiological and interventional research. Wearable heating devices remain underrepresented in the literature, indicating a research gap and highlighting their potential for future hypertension management.

Abstract

The golden age is a critical phase of brain architecture formation that determines the future quality of child growth and development. Early detection of developmental disorders is often delayed due to an exclusive focus on physical indicators, such as stunting, without the adequate integration of neurobiological monitoring. This study aims to analyze the reciprocal relationship between child growth and brain development as a conceptual foundation for developing strategies for the early detection of developmental disorders. This study employed a literature review design with a thematic approach, utilizing Scopus and PubMed databases for articles published between 2021 and 2025. The analysis involved selecting 11 final articles that met the inclusion criteria based on the PRISMA flow diagram. The analysis identified three main themes: the impact of nutritional status and stunting on brain architecture, instruments and technologies for early detection, and the effectiveness of early stimulation interventions. Data synthesis indicates that physical recovery alone is insufficient to restore lost cognitive function without intensive brain development stimulation. This review concludes that stunting reflects structural brain deficits rather than mere physical growth retardation, rendering the separation of nutritional monitoring and neuroscience obsolete. We recommend a paradigm shift toward an integrated brain-protection model that incorporates neurodevelopmental screening technologies into primary care starting from the prenatal phase. Enhancing health professionals' competence in neurobehavioral assessment is crucial to ensure timely interventions during the critical window of brain plasticity.

Abstract

Hypertension is a health problem in Indonesia, with increasing prevalence, while efforts to maintain it are still lacking. National health research data shows a prevalence of 34.11%, and the current prevalence in Indonesia has reached 45.9%, which is considered high. This study aims to examine the role of health cadres in intervening in elderly hypertension. We compare the blood pressure of elderly who received the intervention and the control group. The research method used a paired t-test in the intervention group, and the control group was conducted by cadres. We compared the results of elderly blood pressure measured by health cadres with the intervention group without education as a control. The results in the intervention group for elderly hypertension were p = 0.0002, while in the control group, p = 0.040. This means that both groups experienced a decrease in blood pressure in elderly hypertension in the intervention and control groups. However, a significant decrease occurred in the intervention group. This means that cadres providing education to elderly hypertension quickly reduce blood pressure compared to those who did not receive education. Therefore, the role of cadres is very important in reducing the prevalence of hypertension control.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is a global health problem with increasing incidence and prevalence, long-term treatment, poor prognosis, and high treatment costs. Kidney failure patients face various complex issues, such as fluid and dietary restrictions, long-term treatments that result in loss of freedom, and dependence on healthcare services, affecting their quality of life. One effort to improve the quality of life in chronic kidney disease patients is the health education and Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) program. SEFT is a psychological support technique focusing on holistic and spiritual well-being. This technique uses emotions and physical touch, often combined with prayer. The aim of this literature review is to determine the impact of the combination of education and the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) on the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients with double-lumen catheter placement. This literature review was conducted by searching the results of publications in the Google Scholar, ProQuest, and Pubmed databases between 2019-2024 using the PRISMA method. The keywords used were self-management education AND spiritual emotional freedom technique AND quality of life AND CKD. The search for relevant articles included 13 sources that met the inclusion criteria. The conclusion is that the combination of education and the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique has an impact on the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients with double-lumen catheter placement

Abstract

Patient safety management is a fundamental indicator of hospital quality and reflects the effectiveness of healthcare service delivery. Effective leadership plays a critical role in fostering a patient safety culture, minimizing risks, preventing adverse events, and improving the quality of nursing care. This study aimed to examine the relationship between effective leadership and patient safety management at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang Hospital. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted involving 50 nurses working at the hospital. Data were collected using structured questionnaires assessing perceptions of effective leadership and patient safety implementation. Descriptive statistics and Pearson Product-Moment correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that most respondents were female (82%) and held a diploma in nursing (54%), while 46% had a professional nursing degree. The mean age of respondents was 26.97 ± 6.78 years, and the mean work experience was 1.98 ± 3.62 years. Nurses perceived leadership effectiveness at the hospital to be high, with a mean score of 103 ± 13.54. In terms of patient safety management, 84% of respondents demonstrated good implementation of patient safety practices. Statistical analysis showed a significant positive correlation between effective leadership and patient safety management (r = 0.457, p = 0.001), indicating that stronger leadership effectiveness was associated with better implementation of patient safety practices. In conclusion, effective leadership is significantly associated with improved patient safety management in hospital settings. Strengthening leadership capacity may contribute to the development of a stronger patient safety culture and enhance the quality of healthcare services.
