Abstract

The test in the field of education is a measuring tool used by educators and to support the process of assessing the abilities of students. However, all items contained in the instrument need to be tested. This study aims to test the construct validity of the Cognitive Abilities (CA) questionnaire instrument with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model. The research sample of this study consists of 31 students. The method used to collect data is a questionnaire. The instrument used in collecting data is a questionnaire. The assessment of the questionnaire instrument was carried out by five experts who were invited as validators in the process of the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) technique. Checking the construct validity of the questionnaire was carried out by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) using LISREL 9.30, with a small sample. The result confirmed that the value of approximate fit (chi-square) = 0.00 ≤ 0.03, degree of freedom (df) = 0 ≤ 2.00, the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) = 0.000 ≤ 0.08 and p-value 1.000.000 > 0.80. Based on the results, the data shows a better fit with the correlated one-factor model or single item or questionnaire (content, construction, and language style). The point of view that construct validity emphasizes more on how far the questionnaire compiled is related to the theoretical measurement of the concepts that have been prepared by asking for expert judgment.

Abstract

The lack of interest in students in reading and writing had a low impact on literacy culture, caused by a lack of awareness of parents at home to accompany the learning process and a lack of teacher commitment in the GLS education resulting in low skin of learners. This study aimed to analyze the basic literacy (reading, writing, and numeracy) of elementary school children. The type of research used in this study was qualitative descriptive research.  The data collected was obtained from the principal and three teacher homeroom methods of interviewing, observation, and documentation studies. This study used analysis techniques from Miles, and Huberman described which consists of 1)  Data  Collection; 2)  Data  Reduction; 3)  Data  Display; and 4)  Conclusion drawing/verification.   The results showed that some indicators had not been implemented 100% in basic literacy planning, caused by time problems in implementing literacy activities, reduced collection materials in the classroom at the end of the semester, and reduced teacher commitment to implementing reading habituation classroom. So,  the literacy condition had not been running optimally. This can be seen from several factors that have not been implemented, such as the number of visits to the library, the number of collections supporting the GLS program. GLS constraints were the implementation time, inadequate collection amount, and lack of teacher commitment in applying literacy. Given that Literacy capability becomes a very important aspect in producing good competitiveness, this should be noted.

Abstract

Schools are places where education is carried out for the purpose of national education. However, not all schools can achieve the expected goals. Like a school that has a priority in certain subjects. One of them is Madrasah Tsanawiyah which dominates subjects with religion. So the importance of this research is aimed at knowing the differences and the relationship between the interests and skills of students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah 4, 5 and 7 Batang Hari in mathematics lessons with flat side space material. This study uses quantitative methods with associative and comparative types. The sampling technique used in this study used simple random sampling. From the results of the T test and the correlation obtained, there are significant differences and relationships between students' interests and skills in learning mathematics with flat side space material. In this case it is proven by a significant value < 0.05 .

Abstract

A reading comprehension of a student is the understanding of what is read. The intent of this study is to determine the impact of context clue as intervention for reading comprehension. The study was conducted in 8 elementary schools where the respondents are bona fide Grade 4 learners of San Ricardo District, Southern Leyte, Philippines. The study investigated the effectiveness of context clues as aid for reading comprehension through enhancing student’s vocabulary which utilizes the revised Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI). Phil-IRI result of the last three years were gathered and found out to be quite low. On the other hand, result of the PHIL-IRI of the current school year (S.Y. 2018-2019) was also gathered and shows to have significant difference to the last three years. Moreover, the pre-test to post-test result shows to have a significant improvement to students’ reading ability. Thus, using context clues have exhibit positive impact to reading comprehension of grade 4 students of San Ricardo District.
