Abstract

The implementation of community-based tourism (CBT) in various regions still faces challenges such as limited community managerial capacity, unequal access to resources and markets, and low institutional and policy support for local communities. These conditions indicate a gap between the idealism of CBT development (das sollen) and the reality of its implementation (das sein). This study aims to analyze the role of cooking classes as a means of economic and social empowerment of communities in the context of sustainable community-based tourism. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation techniques. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model with triangulation of sources to ensure validity. The results show that cooking classes have a positive impact on increasing income, creating jobs, and preserving local culture through traditional culinary practices and spiritual values. In addition, these activities strengthen social cohesion, improve service skills, and enrich the tourist experience. The conclusion of the study confirms that cooking classes are an effective model of community-based tourism that can harmonize economic, social, and cultural dimensions in a sustainable manner through active community participation.

Abstract

Legal education in Indonesia, particularly in the field of Sharia financial dispute resolution, remains predominantly theoretical and insufficiently aligned with Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles. This condition creates a gap between expected graduate competencies and actual classroom practices. This study aims to develop an OBE-based textbook on the Legal Politics of Sharia Financial Dispute Resolution for law students. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the R2D2 (Recursive, Reflective Design and Development) model, which consists of three stages: defining the focus, designing and developing, and disseminating. The research subjects were students of the Faculty of Law at Ahmad Dahlan University. Data were collected through observation, interviews, product validation sheets, and pretest–posttest questionnaires. The findings indicate that the developed textbook is valid, practical, and effective in supporting legal learning in higher education. Expert validation confirmed its high feasibility in terms of content, instructional design, and graphical presentation. Effectiveness testing demonstrated significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, particularly in legal analysis and application of sharia principles. These results imply that integrating OBE principles into legal teaching materials can enhance constructive alignment, promote reflective and contextual learning, and strengthen professional competencies in Islamic law education.

Abstract

Folktales function not only as entertainment but also as a medium for transmitting cultural values and identity across generations. The symbolic meanings and social functions of symbols in the reproduction of cultural values in the folktale Manuk Si Nanggur Dawa have not been extensively examined. This study aims to analyze the symbolic meanings and interpret the role of symbols in reproducing the cultural values represented in the folktale Manuk Si Nanggur Dawa. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. The data consist of three versions of the folktale Manuk Si Nanggur Dawa, collected through documentation and analyzed using Roland Barthes’ semiotics at the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth, as well as Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of cultural reproduction to interpret the social functions of symbols. The findings show that bamboo, manuk (chicken), marriage practices, and cosmological structures represent values of honesty, openness, kinship, respect for kalimbubu, and the Karo belief system. These symbols function in the reproduction of cultural values through the internalization of meanings into habitus, thereby supporting the transmission of values across generations. The study concludes that folktales function as symbolic media for maintaining and transmitting cultural values through the relationship between narrative meanings and social practices. These findings have implications for utilizing folktales as learning resources and as media for preserving local cultural values.
